Samsung digital picture frame stores pics, movies, music
Samsung is entering the digital picture frame market with a 7-inch, full-featured model that includes both
local storage and networking capabilities. The frame has a 800x400 display, 32MB of internal memory, support for SD, CF
and USB devices for memory expansion, and built-in Ethernet for networking. Formats supported include JPEG, MP3, and
MPEG-4. According to Samsung, the frame -- which will debut in Korea before being rolled out worldwide -- will support
internet-based photo sharing, though the company hasn't supplied details about what services will be supported.
Unfortunately, the display doesn't currently support WiFi, so all connectivity has to be handled through a wired
Ethernet connection.

This should have been that Origami thing.
Fishes,
narco.
No WiFi equals no iBuy.
Built one for cheaper then they will ever be, and it is a lot bigger screen with wifi.

I keep seeing these and I keep asking myself, do people really want a digital picture frame? Of course I don't have any standard picture frames of family photo size (blech, does anybody want pictures of people as decorations) so maybe I'm not their market.
That's really weak. I would LOVE to have this thing sitting on my end table if it had wifi. I'm sorry, but I just couldn't justify running ugly cat cable running through my living room to my wife. Come to think of it, I really couldn't justify that to myself either, given that the price tag is probably pretty healthy.
I've got a crap laptop (with wifi) sitting around that I will be converting to a digital picture frame this spring. Converting old laptops is a better solution, you get some say in frame design and customizability, plus the advantages of a Linux box (the choice operating system for the things). Hell, play movies, have a remote digital radio, and grabbing an old lappie off eBay is often cheaper for a similar in spec prebuilt frame.
As for "why", think about it, they can rotate pictures, you can change them, update them, practically everything you can't do with a real picture frame. Whats not to love? Plus there is the 1337 factor. Stop being a hater.
Want one with WiFi?
Spend about $400 more and get one of those nifty UMPC/Origami things. Same screen size/resolution.
Oh yeah, with the UMPC you also get full blown XP and 30GB of storage but -- according to the vast majority of the posters -- The UMPC thing evidently sucks and is really ugly and a stupid idea so never mind.
If I had a UMPC, I wouldn't hang it on my wall. ;P
Seriously, though, why the Hell is there no WiFi on this picture frame deal?
Probably there's no WiFi because it also uses the ethernet for power. Unless you want to take down your frame every day for recharging there's going to be some cable running to these things.
seems too much hassle to me
seems too much hassle to me
All that great stuff and no Wifi ? Why bother with all the connectivity stuff then? Plus the UGLY samsung logo on the picture frame? c'mon. So close, yet not quite.
I've got the Philips picture frame and am very pleased with it.
that huge SAMSUNG logo kills it for me worse than no WiFi.
mp3? Could this potentially be the new squeezebox competitor...stream mp3 with a huge 7" display?
I suppose the quaint family picture frames are a retro thing, kind of like 1337, but to each their own. I admit I don't get the appeal but there must be a market for them if companies keep making them...
Hmm, Is it just me, or does this look surprisingly like the video ipod crap that was engaging everyones life a bit back... maybe its just me *shrugs*
I saw this yesterday at Cebit, and I must say this device is very beautiful. Its hooked up with Flickr and downloads images automatically from your profile. So give one to your mother, and send pictures of you directly to her livingroom.
I think it's cool
Does anybody know whether this digi frame has an analogue or a digital panel?

800x400 seems like a strange resolution (i.e. 2:1 aspect ratio) sure its not 800x600 ??
Of all the digi-frames I've seen, they usually come in either 16:9, 3:2 or 4:3 aspect ratio.
Cheers,
Henry
