Is Dell buying Alienware?

When we heard a couple of weeks ago that Dell might buy Alienware, we dismissed the rumors -- especially since one source was Alienware competitor VoodooPC. However, CNET is now reporting that the deal may already be done -- though they admit that they currently have no confirmation. CNET did speak to an Alienware PR exec, who provided a written statement that read, in part, "at this time, Alienware will not comment on any speculative stories or rumors concerning Dell and Alienware's association." Dell, of course, has spent heavily to build its XPS brand as a high-end alternative for gamers, and purchasing Alienware would automatically give Dell a major share of that market -- though it's unclear what would happen to the XPS brand under such circumstances. At this point, however, it's all guesswork -- though we wouldn't mind picking up a discontinued XPS Renegade in Dell's outlet if the deal goes through.

i WANT to cry now. I hate Dell computers so much to the point where I cannot stand the name anymore. Alienware being bought by Dell? I think I just pooped my pants. You have got to be kidding me. Yea they have this and yea they have that... but like many other readers have expressed in this blog.... can you say bye bye English Tech support as well as jobs? I just did a major term paper on outsourcing. It's a major problem in the U.S. and it will continue to happen until someone does something about it. And what will that take? I feel so helpless with so many problems in this world. OH well, I guess I'm not going to be buying a Dullware anytime soon now... voodoo pc and falcon is looking like my next choice..............

It just Happend, Dell has bought Alienware. :( a sad day. Atleast they plan to run alienware a a subsidary buisness, wich means alienware will keep its highquality product, and all the other support that comes along, the name and the product wont change, just the owner.

I hope Dell's customer service is better than Alienware's and that some of that rolls over. Anyone like me, who has bought an Alienware within the last couple years (still inside their warranty period) would stand to benefit. I have an Alienware MJ-12 7700 notebook, which is a great machine, but I've had pretty retarded experiences with customer support from that company. I bought the extra warranty and I consider it useless due to their complete ineptitude and lack of concern. I am an "Alienware widow" and if anything goes wrong with this machine or if I decide to upgrade parts I will pay through the nose to have a competent 3rd party perform the service/repairs. There is nothing Dell could do to make Alienware's customer support worse than it is, things can only get better.
