Seiko Spectrum e-ink watch on eBay
If you want to be one of the first to wrap one of Seiko's Spectrum e-ink
watches around your wrist, now's your chance. If you're willing to pay a pretty penny for it, that is. Seiko, which
originally put a price of about $2,000 on the watch, has now decided to offer it up on eBay as part of a charity
auction for British charity Help a London Child. The auction is expected to start on March 19th and run through March
25th. Seiko is only making 500 of these, so if you want one, get ready to start bidding.

Not very easy on the eyes...

Actually, its an optical illusion. Tilt your head to the right to the angle that you would be looking at the watch on your left hand, It shows up much clearer.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought E-ink was suposed to be a cheaper alternative to OLED and LCD. 2k+ is not cheaper.

I'd imagine the $$$ here is in "design." At least that's what Seiko might say. On the other hand, there are quite a few Japanese companies making watches much "artsier" than this for about a tenth the cost of this watch.
I suppose if I just had several thousand bucks to toss out the window I'd buy one of these.
And yes, it really matters what angle you reead the watch at, so as to get the proper perspective of the numbers.

I've been waiting for E-ink for a few years and now it is here.
E-ink is a revolutionary new Display technology that allows the display to been bent or folded and even stamped on without the display being broken or damaged, it also promises to have better clarity and paper like properties than LCD displays.
I think the SEIKO has a done a superb job of introducing this new technology and I think other watch manufacters like CASIO will probably produce watches with this technology once E-ink has properly established itself in the market and has found a cheaper solution to production costs.
A clever feature to the Spectrum that will be most apparent to the user is that the watch acts like a bracelet and can actually be bent around the users wrist, E-ink can cleverly demostrate its flexibility and superb contrast on its display.
The price of the spectrum does seem rather steep but what has got to be remembered is that this is the first watch to incorporate E-ink and hence will become collectable and value permitting in the future.
The introduction of LCD watches in the 70's also started expensive and every since it was introduced it had reduced 10% of its value evry year untill even the most poverty stricken customer can afford the luxury of what was then a revolution in screen technology
