Treo 700p release date leaked?
This
scan was dubiously released to TreoCentral forums this afternoon without a lot of verification, but it would seem to
purport a May 28th launch target for Sprint's Palm Treo 700p. The 28th happens to be a Sunday, which seems odd timing
for a launch, but it could just be a general target, and it lines up with the mid-year rumorings we've heard
recently. The scanned product sheet also mentions EV-DO, a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, 128MB of memory, and DUN
modem capability, none of which contradicts previously leaked specs. So while the
mid-year timing might be a blow to those of us barely scraping by on a 650, the feature set is looking good for those
with patience. That is, of course, if any of this checks out at all.

funny, i was in a sprint store in l.a. today...salesperson said 700p is supposed to be released sometime TODAY(?!). not that sprint employees are the most informed/intelligent people on the planet, but ya never know...
I have to give alot of credit to my T650. While on a friends boat, it was placed in a cup holder half full of rain water. Fearing the worst, I let it dry out, started it up, and three weeks later it still going strong.
All that said, I will upgrade as soon as I can get my grubby hands on a 700.
Given the current trend (with the 700w) this one will probably have a 160x160 monochrome screen. Way to go Palm!
Eli, the reason that the 700W doesn't have a 320 x 320 screen is because WM5 doesn't support that resolution, whereas the Palm OS does.
On subject, I was hpoin' that it would be earlier, but I'll wait if I have to. Bring it!
If RIM would finally create a non-enterprise phone with a CAMERA, Treo would take a serious hit to sales.
Its true! The 700p will be out late May or latest early June. I work for sprint and we just had a vendor road show and Palm spoke and confirmed the date and also told us that we were getting the 700w also 3rd or 4th quarter.
Big Al:
That's too bad. Personally, I'm not a fan of having 40% less screen space and a resolution that makes it incompatable with a large portion of the programs available for the OS.
Hence, I'm a little testy about the 700 series so far. If they could hack it into shape to work on everything from 240x240 and 800x600 (e740 breakout) I see no reason why they couldn't adapt it to 320x320.
This is all fine and dandy, but when are they releasing a "new" model that rids itself of the external antenna and grabs a few pointers from the slimline Moto-Q? I mean really, this thing still looks like the treo600!
Moving the menu key is unforgivable.
First, it will be good to have a new Palm Treo that can works on a 3G network. Unfortunately, the Windows Mobile Treo is a bit of a disappointment. Among other things, it's just not as easy or elegant to use as the Palm Treo.
Second, I wonder what impact the Moto Q will have on this market? The Moto Q will be the new, sexy kid on the block and at this point the Treo form factor, while still great, may be getting a bit old in people's minds. If Moto finds a way to make the Q work well on Windows Mobile then it could be a very strong competitor.
Third, if Blackberry ever decides to come out with a model with a camera and an SD slot, then that would also compete very effectively with the Treo. Right now the BB enjoys the same kind of place and image in the smartphone marketplace that Palm did in the PDA marketplace. If it makes the right moves it can avoid the mistakes that Palm made.
I think I will be getting the 700p. Can't wait for it to come out!
Thanks for the update Webby!
This is about the 90th time I've tried to post here and it never works but I had to try again, in order to question why noone seems to have noticed that the display of this treo doesn't match with the physical boundaries of the screen on the unit, it's a few millimetres too high. This is clearly bollocks. If you read the original thread it's clear this guy fabricated this to get his doubters off his back. What a non-news item!!!!
im not a fan of the 700w for obvious reasons, i think the whole windows thing is just bleh..
Now i dont think i would even get this 700p, i like the form factor on the 650 better, and unless i see some wow'ing specs to change my mind, i think i'll have to wait for the far end.
the only thing i really want is the evdo
guess i'll have to wait and see
MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm still holding on to my reliable Treo 600, will upgrade if they have Treo with built in Wifi, well i guess i have to wait for another round. But let's hope this 700p will support 3G, i might change my mind.
Keep it up Palm!
Display's too high? not centered? fake?
I have a Treo 600 at work that has the screen pretty much aligned in the lower left of the display cutout, and it's supposedly a retail AT&T wireless device before they were bought by Cingular.
Been waiting for this phone and the release date, but of course the titillation of the "Holywood" version (or whatever it is call) with the thin, not antenna stub model has me wondering if I shouldn't wait a little longer.
Unfortunately I'm 'married' to Sprint and most likely "IF" this rumor is correct as to the date I better be satisfied with what I can get. I think my palm based Samsung i500 has given me about all the service it can. (no support, no speed, limited screen/touchpad sensitivity) I'm ready for a new phone now.
I am married to the other half of sprint, nextel. I wish this were to come out for Nextel, an iden treo.
Mabye then I wont have to open a new sprint account to get it
@ Hawk
Are you blind? That is a total non sequitur. I don't care if your treo has a screen aligned with the bottom left of the display cut-out. This fake has a display that doesn't even lie within the cut-out in the casing. Unless palm have developed an OLED casing material to display the top few lines of pixels and decided that a large gap between the bottom of the display and the beginning of the casing looks great, then this is a crap fake!
My neighbour has a brown dog, your treo has an off-centre screen, but this thing is still fake, Fake, FAKE!!!

I'm not doubting that the 700p is real, I'm saying that this Sprint document is faked, and therefore the release date is false. If you read the original forum topic the originator was under pressure to produce documentary evidence of his claim that he knew the release date. Hey presto, after much badgering he produces this POS.
Now, there is an argument that screens don't grab well in photos and that Sprint would superimpose a screen grab onto the original photo, as happens in commercials ("not actual screen shot" etc...) and that they have just done this badly. The big flaw here is that they wouldn't need to do this. Why would they need to prove to their employees that it's a palmos device????
I'm sure the treo700p is real, I'm sure it's coming out on sprint, but I'm also sure that this particular release date is rubbish. My beef is that so many websites have posted it as a plausible rumour and not one "journo" has noticed that it's utter crap, limited investigation of source is all that's needed.
I know everyone's hungry for rumours and there's some fun to be had with "are they? aren't they?" mock-ups and spy shots, but let's keep some objectivity in this or every kid with a photocopier will be coming up with this crap.
Given that the battery on my Tapwave Zodiac is on the way to heaven, I've been holding back on buying a Treo on Sprint because I want EVDO. A simple 700P with EVDO would be an easy buy for me. But I would like to see the new device push forward with full Bluetooth implementation, a Linux directory for future ALP updates, and an OLED touchscreen (super low power). While I have been tempted by the 6700, I just can't get myself to like Windows Mobile since it feels clunky vs. Palm. Flame on.
RIM release a camera Blackberry? Keep your eye open for Q4 2006 :)
The Sprint Treo 700p was originally slated for March release but that date was subject to being pushed back.
FAKE SCHMAKE! I already HAVE ONE!! Yep. I just took that documentation and printed out those pics...taped 'em to my 650 and VIOLA!
Joking aside, Since Blackberry Connect is in beta now (meaning it'll b realeased @ the same time as the 700p) why would a blackberry w/cam even make a dent in Treo sales. I highly doubt such a device would as the Treo is much better at all the functions they both perform.
The only thing not likely 2 b avail on the 700p is WiFi and Nextels Walkie Talkie feature. and THANK GOD for that! I can't stand that push to talk crap. I don't want to hear 1/2 of ANYONE's phone conversation...why would i want to hear the WHOLE@3%?!?! thing?
I just finished looking at my marketing update from Sprint. I own a store. We are looking at a late May release for the Treo 700. What I don't see is 700p or 700w. Details, details. I believe, though, that it is the 700p. We are a little too early in the non-compete with Verizon to roll out the 700w, and all other pointers are for the 700p first, then the 700w.
Sprint may do what Verizon did with the 700w. It was released but you couldn't purchase it from a Verizon store for the first few weeks--it was only released to the business customers. I work for a store that sells Palm products (the only real store that sells the unlocked GSM Treo 650) and we are still in the dark with the official release date. All we know is the Sprint one will definitely release sooner than Verizon one. (sadly)
