So we got a hold of that
Morgan Stanley
Apple report from earlier, and we have to admit that it's not as revealing as one might hope. Yes, there are
numerous -- almost uncountable, in fact -- mentions made of future iPods (including, of course, the "2nd gen video
iPod"), and an interesting tidbit that we're once more seeing recycled about an Apple "iPhone with possible
VMO model [that] could launch later this year." Not that any of this is surprising to us (or to anyone who's been
following
Apple on Engadget for the last,
oh, two years) but we're getting appropriately bored with
the "suspense." Apple: care to pull the trigger on these products already? We're getting a mite tired of the
kind of mild iPod (with video) and Motorola (with iTunes) product toe-dipping you've been doing, eh?
Don't wanna be too picky, but Morgan is spelled Mortan in the title...
Those Cupertino press "events" are one thing, but how can you blame Apple for whatever Morgan Stanley decides to write about?
Don't believe the hype.
Apple is damned if they do and damned if they dont. People complain when some of these companies announce a product 6 months before it is ready for launch and now they complain when everyone else speculates on what Apple is doing and blaming it on Apple for not responding to each of these speculations.
Apple may be tightlipped on their next products but you got to hand it to them that at least when they announce something it is usually able to be ordered that same day. You just cant have it both ways and I much rather prefer Apples method of releasing actual products. And this is coming from someone who has not owned an apple product in almost 20 years.
The iPod with video is great. If you're waiting for something better, you're missing out.
I'm with Edgar. Apple's Keynotes are fun to watch and I get all excited when one is about to come out (April 1st for Apple's 30th Annivesary). Sans the MacBook Pro (which you could order that day), products are available from their website on the Tuesday they announce them. Other companies, such as MS, get you hopes up and them deleiver something lackluster to the promise.
I'm not the biggest Apple fan in the world, but how exactly is this "Apple's fault?" They have *never* made claims of this so called iPhone (even though they probably ARE making an iPhone type product). What's really going on is the media themselves that are "overhyping" these so-called mythical Apple products. Maybe they exist, maybe they don't. In any case, don't comment until you have hard evidence.
Ok, so since we all know the iPod Video 2nd Gen is coming, and so is the iTunes Movie Store, isn't it logical to think that some sort of Airport AV product is coming too? If Apple is going to start charging $9.99 for feature length films on the Movie Store (that have strict DRM on them and no burning rights), I can't see consumers being too happy about only being able to watch it on their iPods (whether or not you can connect the iPod to a TV). After the recent updates to Airport Express (allowing you to play at multiple speakers simultaneously), I think they have some sort of Airport HD-AV product coming soon. I mean, what better way to ensure consumers are happy with the iTumes Movie store than to embed it into both the portable market and the living room. Thoughts anyone?
I think apple has jumped the shark. this from a longtime user typing this on a mac. A cube to be precise. I'm prepared for them to wow me but after the past couple announcements i'm pretty annoyed, what with being party to one of the progenitors of the TCPA, and the lack of any real inovative product since the mac mini.
I don't think Apple have any choice but to release an iPhone. Nokia have ominously reminded the world how they helped kill the photo industry, and now firmly aim to kill the music device and video camera industries. In other words, in just a few short years, your stand-alone iPod will be as quaint as a personal CD player is today.
