Dell 2407WFP shows up on Dell Japan
They're not exactly telling us anything more about Dell's 2407WFP than we expected would be coming from the 2405FPW's successor (usual 24-incher specs: 1920 x 1200, addition
of HDCP, 500 cd/m2 brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 6ms response time, 4-in-1 card reader, etc.), but we're gonna be
a little less than enthused if this thing goes in America for what they're asking in Japan: ¥157,500 -- about
$1,400 US. Of course, domestic product prices gone foreign typically get inflated, we know, but it's a kind of
inauspicious way to first hear about a products we've been looking forward to, ourselves. Oh, and sorry about
that thumbnail, it's really the best we could dig up from Dell Japan's site. Just envision that 2007WFP, just a little taller and wider,
aight?[Thanks, Anders]

anyone know how much the 2405 was on the dell japanese site?
this topic has a bigger photo of that monitor

why couldnt they have just put HDCP on the monitor a year ago?? now i must cry
Now I just need to decide if HDCP is worth the UK's inflated price for this model (Can't forget the 'not being the US' tax), or the discounted, and thus slightly more reasonable older model and go for a simple HDCP stripper.
i'm thinking about selling my 2405fpw now and getting a 2407wfp when they go on sale. however, i'm afraid it will be a while before they go on sale (or they may never -- the deep discount dell days are behind us). does anyone know if any of the other new monitors have been selling for significantly less than the original list price?
The 2405 was also selling for Y157,500, same price as 2407.
wait, I think someone has the figure way wrong there.
See my post:
http://www.theninelives.com/sweet-price-on-dell-2407-japan
It is only 73,800 Yen (675USD).
the 2405 is a fantastic monitor -v.sharp, high res, great colours which calibrate perfectly with gretag-macbeth Eye One system. Ideal for photoshop & web dev. Get one. Now.
Go on, what are you waiting for. Oh, the 2407.
Not taller, just wider.
This sure looks like my Samsung 242MP monitor. If you compare the specs, it sounds like Dell has just adapted the wonderful 242MP to their own uses. If that's the case, I'd recommend the monitor, since my Samsung 242MP is nothing short of fabulous! Enjoy. TheBeagle in ChocolateTown - USA!
Fuck I just bought the older 24" dell a few months ago......6ms?! arg!
Guess what? The online manual for the 2407WFP is on Dell's site at http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2407WFP/. Hopefully it won't be too much longer!
Do I really need HDCP? When would I use it? Only when watching HD dvds? I guess this is something that HD tv's have?
If you EVER plan on watching HDCP-protected content (which currently includes the upcoming HD DVD and Blu-Ray formats), your display devices (computer monitor, video card, HDTV) have to support HDCP. If your display doesn't support HDCP, one of two things will happen: 1. the content will still play, but downconverted to standard definition (think current-DVD quality) or 2. the content will not play at all.
Hollywood is really screwing us over on this one. None of the current video cards on the market support HDCP. So the $500 I spent on a 7800GTX six months ago will have to be replaced with a HDCP compatible card when I want to play HD DVD/Blu-Ray.
Dell 24" 2407FPW is available in Australia http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/20lcd_au?c=au&l=en&s=dhs

I am looking to buy either the 242MP or the Dell 2407WFP. don't know which one is best. price point is much cheaper on the Dell. don't mind paying extra for samsung, just don't know which is the better go.
are they the same, anyone know? thanks
