New TiVo bug cutting the good stuff, too?
Naw, we're not talking about TiVo cutting off the last 5
minutes of your show when it runs over its time slot; it appears that according a group of rather irate TiVo customers,
there's an issue in the clock code that could have your box chopping of ten, fifteen, who knows how many minutes of
solid material for no particular reason. Experienced this problem? Well, you're in luck -- apparently a reboot (and the
upcoming 7.2.2 software release) will solve the prob lickity split. So may we suggest giving your TiVo a restart on your
way out to work today before you come home later tonight only to find out the last twenty of [Via NY Times]

Before I come come later? Okay okay.
That explains why I've missed the end on a couple of shows, I guess.
Jordan @ Mar 20th 2006 9:46AM
Not sure what that meant.. ;)
And did he mean Oprah, or the opera? :)
I hate to nit-pick, so I won't anymore!
Drew @ Mar 20th 2006 10:03AM
Yes! This has been occuring on several of my favorite shows.
I blamed my girlfriend for adding a season pass to Golden Girls.

This was happening to me as long ago as mid January. Missed the end of two weeks of BSG before I found that forum post. Odd that Engadget is only picking up on it now that a solution is out.
Anyone else notice on the new 7.2.2 update that the main menu is laid out more tightly? Just doesn't look right fi you ask me.

Please edit this... don't just do a random reboot for no reason. Simply go into your Network preferences. It will tell you right there whether or not a reboot is pending. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.
Joe @ Mar 20th 2006 10:57AM
Yeah this hit me. Apparently if you haven't rebooted in quite a while this can occur.
Dave Zatz @ Mar 20th 2006 10:59AM
Matt, in this case the bug is caused by certain machines that haven't been rebooted in months. A reboot will clear the bug until someone gets the 7.2.2 software update. All in all it's pretty minor and effects only a small number of people. Not sure why the NYTimes picked this up.
Joe @ Mar 20th 2006 11:18AM
I doubt most people reboot their Tivos, so I bet this hit a lot of people.
Rob @ Mar 20th 2006 11:37AM
What's wrong with doing a "random reboot for no reason"? It take's 10 seconds of your time, then walk away and let it reboot. Is there something I'm unaware of?

This was happening to one of our TiVo's a few months back. Found nothing on TiVo's website but the Community Forums were a great help in getting it resolved. A reboot did the trick! I guess the huge UPS we have on ours prevents it from ever rebooting...

Mine has been a problem since they crashed my hard drive last year with an update. I sent it for repairs withing the warranty period and still had to pay (even got charged twice before I brought it up and was refunded once) and it crashed again four months later - warranty period over, let it sit for three weeks, now it runs so sluggishly, from turning it on to completing a "set to record" time takes nine minutes.
Emanuel Levy @ Mar 20th 2006 1:30PM
klew visit tivocommunity.com and someone there can help you with a new image for your drive to fix the problem
Brent @ Mar 20th 2006 1:32PM
My Tivo's been doing this ever since Tivo's online apps update came through a couple of weeks ago. And, no, a reboot doesn't "solve" the problem--it reappeared on mine 2 days later. 2nd reboot and the problem came back hours later... Show truncation is apparently quite random and it's quite infuriating. Small number affected? I doubt it. I hear a distant rumbling of grumbling. Tivo better hurry up and fix it--no good paying for something that doesn't even fulfill its basic function--to record programs!
Luke @ Mar 20th 2006 5:47PM
Ditto what Brent said above: a system reboot solved nothing. It's maddening at The Shield's season finale is tomorrow! [crosses fingers]
Sean DL @ Mar 20th 2006 8:27PM
Well FX doesn't tell anyone that they are going over a couple of mins(This happen with Nip Tuck when I wanted to record the second showing at 11, the first showing at 10 was still on!
So with anything on FX, always record an extra 120 mins when it comes to the BIG shows, they always add more commercials. bastards
chris @ Mar 21st 2006 1:33AM
never had a problem and received the update the other day... still no problems... I just can't wait for TiVo HD...

My Tivo has faithfully been watching TV for me for the past year or more, all on its own, without me even flicking on the set. Who knows what it has saved for me.
I might go back to tickle my Tivo to grab some new shows I might want to see, but generally, I don't have time for TV.
