Breaking News: Vista delay good for pundits
Microsoft's announcement that Windows Vista won't be out until next
year may be bad news for Redmond, for computer makers (except for Apple, that is), for software companies (ditto) and
for retailers that were counting on Vista boosting holiday sales. But it is good news for one group: the punditocracy.
There was no shortage of voices analyzing the likely fallout from the Vista delay, and just in case you haven't had
enough yet, we've compiled a few of them here for your reading pleasure.- Scoble - Windows Vista delayed

I wonder if this is an honest surprise to anyone...
Vista has had development problems all the way through its journey.

That is not the London Times.
It is The Times.

There is another group for which it's good news those of us who try to use relatively up-to-date software, yet are perfectly satisfied with the software that they already have. I understand that charging ahead and coming up with new things is what employs a lot of people, yet in my job, the tools that we already have work well or well enough, at any rate. While it won't be too long after Vista is out that I'll be looking for my copy, I'm not that anxious to see it on the market.

If you've noticed, Microsoft is now selling more retail copies of MCE 2005 than XP. I'm guessing they delayed the consumer version of Vista to get cable card support in.
They can stick with the November launch for business desktops because everything but cable card will be ready.

Man, I know Microsoft dragged their feet on everything, but the were not THAT pessimistic in their release date, were they - 2999 is a bit long to wait! lol.
"2006-03-22) Microsoft today announced it would speed the launch of its Windows 3rd Millenium Edition operating system (code named 3ME) making it available in stores probably some time in 2007, rather than the scheduled release date of November 2999."

Windows Vista: It's Mac OS X without the "You need to buy our shiny cool hardware" attitude.
If you want it now go spend the $$$ for the shiny cool hardware.
If you can wait then you can run it on a Taiwanese no-name shake, bake and pray box next year. :-)
