Dell XPS 600 Renegade goes on sale for $10K
If you've been ogling Dell's XPS 600
Renegade gaming rig since CES, and waiting to get your hands on one, now's your chance. If you're prepared to spend
close to $10,000, that is ($9,930, to be precise). So, what do you get for that price, other than the dubious ability to
boast that you spent ten grand on a Dell, dude? For starters, it's got NVIDIA Quad-SLI graphics and an overclocked
Pentium 965 Extreme Edition running at 4.26 GHz. Dell is also throwing in their 30-inch 3007WFP display, which regularly goes for $2,199, making
this a veritable bargain! Well, maybe not. But, hey, there's always that paint job, right? That's gotta be worth
something.

re:mac
to James:
tookyG asked 'since when did Intel become cheaper than AMD?'
And I answered.
No need to get all uppity.
And might I point out that at the high end, the newest DuoCore Intels DO INDEED outperform the top of the line AMD's. So call down buddy.
And to Dan, why oh why bring up a Mac in a blog about GAMING???
#46: To show that a supercomputer costs less than this Dell.
Alternatively, you could buy 3 Quad G5s and use fibre channel to make a wicked cluster.
Not to mention, you could buy the top of the line Alienware every year, with warranty and no-hassle, and still have cash to burn.
Or you can get a few more fps in F.E.A.R.
a deal is a joke... get the same thing... but in an alienware... plus having an AMD to boot... who would ever spend this much on a dell needs to be shot...
'supercomputer'?????
Geez.
Like I said, what does the powermac have to do with gaming?
Let's stay on topic.
'wicked cluster'????
What's sad is, those powermacs are already 'dated' tech.
As is this Dell.
As someone already said, if you know better, then don't buy the thing. It's a vanity product, get over it.
39:
Yes, because spending nearly $10k on a soon-to-be obsolete system is brilliant.
If it wasn't the most expensive it could be the ugliest Box of all times... oh wait, could it both? Stylish as a 'tuned' nascar car in the middle of a princess wedding. Come on.. who other than the sultan of brunei can be both so rich and have such a bad taste?
The Sultan of Brunei _does_ possess golden underwear, I shit you not.
When I get rich (next year of course) and I want to buy a fast gaming machine I might as well put it in a nice, elegant box. A giant mac mini maybe?
Spending 10k on a dell computer.....You have to be REALLY fucking dumb.
Well, the 4.26Ghz OC itself isn't that phenomenal. If you look at the recently released article on TomsHardware.com about the Pentium EE 3.73Ghz, they easily got 4.26Ghz by just raising the multiplier from 14x to 16x, using Intel's stock cooler.
Keep that in mind when calculating the net value of Dell's factory OC.
#49, try actually reading the post.
Cluster: a group of loosely coupled computers that work together closely so that in many respects it can be viewed as though it were a single computer.
"What's sad is, those powermacs are already 'dated' tech."
Actually, they're the fastest PowerPC chips to date.
gg thx newb

@ #54(Dan)
Eat your own words buddy: "try actually reading the post.". Which part of the "what a Mac has to do with gaming" that you dont understand? Matter of fact, all Mac fanboys crawl back to your hole.
@ #51 (Jacques)
"A giant mac mini maybe?"
WTF??? how can you fit "giant" and "mini" into the same question? A giant mini? WTF?? Gimme some of what you're smoking...
so all of you people touting alienware, the jokes on you...
I agree: those riggs are useless.
Why spend tons of money for a system that can barely surpass a 399$ XBox360 (with none of the best games)?
Performance gaming is on console nowadays. PC are now just for MMORPG (that use low graphic details for the massive tcp traffic they have to sustain anyway).
This is good after all. PC gaming is going to be about gameplay and good design, and not about top-notch 3d graphics vaporware anymore.
You mean like, Duke Nukem Forever?
Consoles are about taking away your freedom of hardware and testing screwy business models and total lack of expandability. Kind of like CDMA networks. Think about it.
#59... I mentioned it "to show that a supercomputer costs less than this Dell."
Whine all you want, the G5 is the fastest PowerPC-based computer in its class, hence a supercomputer by definition.
My original point, which had nothing to do with gaming, was that XPS 600 Renegade costs more than 3 top-of-the-line G5 machines.
Clearly, there is something wrong here when a cluster composed of 12 processing cores costs LESS than a gaming rig.
***#57 rather.
yes, but does it have a hemi?
Dan:
Dude, I know what a cluster is. We have three in our office.(Netware,Linux,Windows don't ask why, my boss is cluster crazy)
My point is.....
what does clustering have to do with GAMING!!!????
So WHAT you could buy 3 powermacs for the price of this one dell, and turn it into a 'wicked cluster'!!!!
Are you going to play UT on that cluster of yours????
And those powermacs are INDEED outdated.
Considering Intel has a working quad-core 65nm CPU waiting in the wings. With 45nm dual-core set for next year maybe.
And have also managed to fab at 32nm.
Yes DAN, those powermacs are dead in the water as soon as pro apps make the conversion to x86.
Now you can sit in the corner, and giggle like a little girl over your 'wicked cluster' if you want to. What that has to do with the topic of the blog.......we may never know.
Dan, if you think that 1 7800gt(not even GTX) in the Apple is only going to be 1fps slower than 4 7900's you know nothing about computers. Also, the fact that you think the Apple's 7200rpm drive will out-perform 2 Raptor's in raid 0 is laughable.
If we're going to look at workstations, Opteron's and Xeons have been faster than G5's for quite some time.
>>Yes DAN, those powermacs are dead in the water as soon as pro apps make >>the conversion to x86.

Just because Apple switched doesn't mean PowerPC is dead. IBM continues to evolve its POWER architecture for large business, including Nintendo's next-gen console.
Why someone ever hired you, we may never know.
>>Dan, if you think that 1 7800gt(not even GTX) in the Apple is only going to >>be 1fps slower than 4 7900's you know nothing about computers. Also, the >>fact that you think the Apple's 7200rpm drive will out-perform 2 Raptor's in >>raid 0 is laughable."
1.9fps relative to another gaming PC. I was showing the contrast between scientific use and this overpriced Dell. I guess you didn't get it.
>>If we're going to look at workstations, Opteron's and Xeons have been faster >>than G5's for quite some time.
I said among PowerPC. I guess you are the one who knows nothing about computers. It's called RISC architecture, kid.
To Dan:
Everyone's point
You're head
I'll try to break it down for you a little simpler. This is a gaming PC. Calling it overpriced because some G5 can perform non-gaming tasks faster than it is irrelevant. It would be like saying a Corvette is overpriced because a minivan that costs less can fit 3 times more people, it's irrelevant. This rig is built to perform a certain task and that's it. The fact that Apple or Dell will sell you a workstation for cheaper is irrelevant.
If this is the same Dan from an OS comparison website I once knew, then don't waste your time with this guy!
The guy is so stupid, he compares OSX with XP even though he has no access to a Windows XP box!
In fact, another website has been created in mockery of his website. Seriously, that guy has no understand of what gaming or computers are all about.
If this is not the same "Dan", then he's still stupid because he's trying to compare a once "supercomputer" to a gaming rig that surpasses the benchmark that beat the G5s.
Its not 2004 anymore.
Okay so you guys complain about it being a dell. Ya wanna know something folks.. That system is one of the best systems that I have ever seen and considering the specs of the system it is worth the 10,000 that they are charging for the machine. This is a powerful machine and is absolutly gorgeous. OH and by the way Alienware is owned by Dell now so Dude get and alienware YOUR STILL Getting a dell. But the system is spectacular.... personally if i had the money i would most definately go and purchase it :D
1. I also said Alienware.
2. "Informer" huh? Maybe this is the guy I once knew at a forum whose webmaster's cousin was "Informer." Numbnuts.
3. G5 Quad came out near the END of 2005.
Until Dell posts the actual cost, I would hold the negative comments. My guess is they are doing the feeling-out process - negative as it should be to see how best to market the thing. I'm guessing it will be a bit cheaper to compete with Alineware and the rest.
To all the people that want to buy this gaming monstrosity and then "tweak it": Have you heard the phrase, "If it's not broke, don't fix it." Alienware obviously has their hand in this machine. If it had Alienware on it instead of Dell there would be two things different: one, you wouldn't care that it costs 10k; and two, you wouldn't want to "tweak it."
To Dan,
When did the G5 come out?
Right, so what year is it now?
Right again, is it worth buying one today?
Wrong, why?
You guessed it, Apple switched to Intel and can now run Windows rendering everything that Mac people bought last year as USELESS.
It is still a worthless choice for gaming despite the so-called "power". The Mac is soooo fast that it trumps the PC desktops in Doom3....as the slowest. Hell they have been working on OpenGL since Quake3 and still haven't got it right. Poor poor Apple. I guess the only thing they can brag is "the experience", ooooo!!!
Welcome to the club, the years of monopoly, thinking "different" to be the same, the $150 per year OS subscription and boring interfaces of yesterday will now be over for Mac users....iThink.
-FOUR POINT THREE SIX GIGAHERTZ
-QUAD SLI
-MICROSOFT XP PRO (WOOHOO Like I didn't have that already LOL)
-COOLING SYSTEM - ALMOST NONE
-and 2 gigs of ram
Err. I've got 3 gigs of ram clocked at a higher speed jeesh...
XPS Renegade is like one of those pimped out Honda Civics that can reach 190 MPH - but who cares? It's a CIVIC.

Way to go buddy you know that all high end gaming machines will now be using the new Intel Core 2 Duos, because they are amazing compared to anything that AMD has to offer. Way to eat your words.
Well, most of you are just fuckin' dumb.
But the dude that said "I work as a computer consultant... I know what I'm talking about."
Yep... that's why your sitting in some shitty computer shop complaining about Dell, while ol' Mike is at home getting blown by hot women wearing 100 dollar bill swimsuits and your still at home wackin' it to hardcorejunky.net
Hey.. I wax the seal to hardcore as well, just saying, don't try to cockblock him because your too lame to come up with an idea that appeals to the masses.
punk ass.
OMG Playing solitaire on this Dell would be the best!!!! I want one.
Are they serious about that processor? If it were a quad core Core2 overclocked to that speed it might actually be worth $10,000 just to have that part at that speed under warranty.
