Dell's 2407WFP surfaces again
We don't have any more info today than on Monday when we first spied the 2407WFP on the Dell Japan site, but
now that the US documentation has been leaked we do have some juicier pics. All that 1920 x1200 resolution, 6ms
response time, and 1000:1 contrast ratio still holds true, just this time the 24-incher is being described in glorious
English (and we have larger pictures, of course. Which would mean that this model can't be too far from shipping in the
US -- at least that's what we mumble incoherently to ourselves as stare fixated at its beauty.

Sooo nice... too bad I have 2005FPW already.
HDCP??!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!!??!??!?!?!?
Hum, the lack of a mention of HDCP worries me - theres only one reference i can see, and thats in the video troubleshooting, saying the dvd player could not be HDCP compliant.
could this be a good soolution for me???
I have a 12 inch powerbok i could hookup to the dvi port.
i just got a 360. would this display perform well with the 360? al i would need is an seperate audio component system correct?
dont fret, HDCP is there. this is the link for the translated product page on the Dell Japan site
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www1.jp.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/pressoffice/2006/060320%3Fc%3Djp%26l%3Djp%26s%3Dcorp&prev=/search%3Fq%3D2407wfp%26hl%3Den%26hs%3DXNT%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official
i use my 2405fpw with my 360 it looks great
the only issue is that 1080i is a 16:9 resolution whereas the monitor is 16:10 so you have some black bars at the top and the bottom if you dont want the picture to be streched.
i also just plug the xbox into my computer speakers, really a great setup
That's really too bad. I'll never buy a monitor with HDCP.
#4 - Yeah it could be a good solution. From the specs it seems that the 2407WFP has VGA, DVI, and component inputs. Thus with the HD component cable or the HD VGA cable you should be able to setup the 360 and your power book to it. Granted you'd have to switch between inputs, but it's doable.
Note that the maximum resolution that the 360 HD VGA cable outputs is 1368 x 768(?) or something close to that. However 1280 x 1024 works great.
IS HDCP the only difference over the current 24" model?
#7 he would ideally be pushing out 1900x1080 so the resolution issues arent an issue and imput switching isnt a qualm on this monitor any way
Anyone hear of any plans to update the 20 inch? I was just about to buy it this week.
What is the "Picture-by-Picture" mode?
my guess is picture-by-picture is basically split screen
"IS HDCP the only difference over the current 24" model?"
No, check out the response time. Its half the current model (which was already quite nice).
Mmmm, 6 ms response, too bad I've had my 2405 for less than a year. hard to justify the upgrade just for faster response and HDCP. Does the 30" dell have HDCP? Does it treat the monitor as a single monitor for games (I found several games don't like dual monitor, and I know it takes 2 inputs to power the 30" behomoth)? That I might be able to justify...
Picture-by-Picture is a side-by-side mode rather than "picture IN picture". I never use it on the 2405, it skews resolution too much.
Other difference besides the HDCP is the 6ms response time. The post insinuates that was the 2405's response time. 6ms is pretty sweet. My 2405 is 12ms grey-to-grey, 16ms black-to-white.
If they lower the lumens to 400 cd/m (2405's are BRIGHT), decrease the pitch to .25 (both to match the 3007) -- that'd be sweet.
this is a reeaallyy good looking piece of kit
Dell has the 3007WFP on sale as part of their "Dell Days of Deals!"
http://tinyurl.com/5re3t
a few select specs from the manual:
Response Time 6 ms typical (Grey to Grey) / 16 ms typical (Black to White)
Contrast ratio 1000:1 (typ)
Luminance output 500 cd/m (typ)
Pixel pitch 0.270 mm
Screen type Active matrix - TFT LCD
I just wanted to say that I have the older version of this monitor and absolutely love it...well, except for the build quality. This new one has better specs, so anyone should be very happy with it.
i own the 2405 and it's great. however, when i plug in component cables into the monitor, i see faint scrolling lines...and a high pitched whine due to frequency issues?? i don't knwo if it's a flaw of the monitor or I just have a faulty unit.
So, the big question (for me) is dimensions with the stand. For whatever reason the old 24" had a tall stand and wouldn't fit where I need it to go. It was the only 24" i saw speced like that, heck, the 30" was technically shorter than the 24"!
I have 7 days to return the gateway monitor i bought...

Still looks like a hunk of plastic. Sticking with Apple Cinema Displays.
the Dell Japan site is no longer showing 154000 yen for the price. it now shows 99000 yen or $845US, seems like either the first price was a mistake or they are already being discounted. $1300 just seemed to be way to high of a price considering prices on such things are supposed to decrease with subsquent models, not increase
That's a really nice looking monitor, definitely an upgrade from previous models. Hopefully they will update the enclosures on the entire line of displays soon. I have the 2005FPW, and its really nice, but the enclosure is showing it's age just a bit.
"Still looks like a hunk of plastic. Sticking with Apple Cinema Displays."
Ah, the price one pays to have nicer plastic around the actual monitor. Technically speaking the existing dell monitors are either the equal or superior of Apple's (some of which use the same actual LCD) yet cost no less that $150 less, and with the dell coupons significantly less.
I've been waiting for official proof of this. Now I know my wait was worthwhile. As long as they don't charge more than $100 more than the current 2405fpw model, I'll be picking one of these up. Just sounds incredible.
UGLY!
Anyone know how much TV, ahem, large monitor sales adds to Dells bottom line? It is a prominent part of their mall kiosks for several reasons.
I think we're going to see this monitor in April. If you read the documentation, it's all copyrighted April 2006:
Model 2407WFP
April 2006 P/N 5B.L2K01.002 Rev. A00
Hopefully we see it soon.
Just checked the specs next to the 2405 (what im on atm) and it seems its not as deep, the osd menu system has been redesigned (yay) and you can select up to four sizes for picture in picture. I wished that you could go bigger on the 2405.
Picture by picture is useless if youve got two widescreen sources because it shrinks them both down to fit in the centre of the screen.
Wonder what the final price will be? I wonder if i can ditch this off to some sucker and get the new model? i knew this would happen =P
#14:
"Does the 30" dell have HDCP?"
Yes.
"Does it treat the monitor as a single monitor for games (I found several games don't like dual monitor, and I know it takes 2 inputs to power the 30" behomoth)?"
Yes, it's treated as a single monitor. This is because it's not driven on 2 separate DVI inputs, it runs off a single DUAL-LINK DVI connection (your vid card has to specifically have a DUAL-LINK output to work with it)
And I can't wait for this to come out. I got a 2001fp about a month before the 2405 came out, and I was a bit miffed. Now I'll have an excuse to upgrade. Yippee!
Oh, and I feel sorry for the poor schmuck #21. Going with a product because it has a "better" looking plastic case around the same or inferior components for a higher price. But then again, that's what Apple's all about, right?
OOH, SNAP! Don't kill me Apple-lovers. In the case of 24" widescreen monitors, though, you know it's true.
I know we're talking about the 24" in here, but some people asked about the 20"
to help those people out a little in terms of a price they should aim for: I paid $361 for a 2005fpw two weeks ago direct from Dell using a $35 off of $300 coupon. with tax, the total came to $380. I checked the specs of the new 20" dell (the 2007fpw... or 2007wfp - something like that) and it wasn't that much different than the 2005fpw. That made the old one seem like the way to go for the money saved.
#21 is obviously a moron.
this monitor looks great. it's specs also blow away anything apple has (like most competitors anyway). the only thing apple monitors have going for them is their looks, which is how most of their stuff sells.
Does anyone know what the brightness of this monitor will be like? Though the 2405 was great, it was significantly too bright even turned all the way down for any type of photographic work for example.
Was just about to spring for the 2405FPW when I stumbled across this breaking news. Have been checking out all 1920X1200 monitors and it seems Dell has the best bang for the buck. HDCP has been a concern but since the 2407WFP has this plus other enhancements it's a no brainer for me over the Samsung 244T at way more $$$. My old Sony Multiscan 400PS is about ready to put out to pasture ... bring it on :-)
I can't believe. DELL Japan hasn't been shipped yet 2407WFP.
I asked the support of DELL a shipping day in April 3.
Support was said. It is shipped on the 12th.
But, 2407WFP didn't reach on the 12th.
I asked support again.
Support was said. It will be shipped in the next week.
But, 2407WFP didn't reach.
Then, support was asked today.
Support was said. It may reach in the beginning in the next month. A shipping expected date of confinement isn't decided.
There was an order of about the million units in Japan. Then, all the money has already been paid.
This is a swindle.
Japanese boy has it right. Sort of.
Dell Japan had a special offer late March that had the 2407WFP for only 79,875 Yen (just under $700). The same price as the 2405FPW it was replacing.
Most of the people I know here bought one. Me included.
But, I received an email early April saying that due to the high demand, delivery would be delayed until the end of April, and this week I received another email saying delivery would be delayed until mid-May, but no later.
They also offered to deliver a 2405FPW immediately, with a 3000 Yen rebate ($26), instead of the 2407WFP. That's a suckers deal.
Anyway. The latest Dell NEWS from Japan now shows the 2405FPW for 92,800 Yen (just over $800).
For TrikinCurt - If you haven't seen this info already, the height is adjustable between 387.9 mm and 487 mm (landscape mode). Max height in portrait mode is 584.7 mm.
