As of this writing it's about midnight in Japan (so we can't confirm the text with our
Japanese counterparts), but someone sent in this image of what they believe
might be a swiped slide from Japan showing off Nintendo's final brand for the forthcoming Revolution. Supposedly it
could be
announced later today by
Iwata-san at GDC in San Jose, but until one of our faithful readers wants to translate what little text is visible
we're by no means prepared to comment on the validity of this shot -- if anything, we're inclined to call hoax, since
they quite often are, particularly with Apple and Nintendo. We do think we know of one person who could probably sort
this one for us though: Qbert, where you at? This looks like your gig, dude.
[Thanks, Helmut]
Update: Engadget Japan editor Ittousai let us know that there's too little information to tell
exactly what's going on here, but the text contains fragments like "the brand (reflects)," "contains
system-level," and "-technology in latest info." Well, at least we know it's not completely fake
Japanese.
Update 2: another
(anonymous) user has stepped forward with another mysterious image, which we were told is of a product brochure of the
Nintendo Go. Is it real? We don't have any more reason to think this is any more authentic than the first image -- but
it's got our attention, that's for sure.
Its pretty simple.
Nintendo GO:
Gaming OS
The lines of text mention the other nintendo systems that will be availible to emulate. So if anything its probably a poster *1st picture* explaining the capabilites of the Nintendo GO. The second photo looks like a pamphlet.
ATARI's name was also derived from the game "GO". Hmmmmmmmmm....
yournamehere:
though most of those names are kinda silly, one intrigued me. remember this?:

Well, I tried to post this earlier, but my browser (Opera) messed up. In the IGN Revolution forums, a guy found that plus-sign logo was actually from another piece of software. The image appears to be stolen:

I think just about everyone here is missing the point, and could stand to study a little bit of marketing 101. Nintendo's new logo here, regardless of its orgin (fake or not), is incredibly well conceived. A good corporate or product logo:
1) draws in the eye
2) is unique (and thus more easy recognized)
3) cleverly relates to the theme or theory on which the product is sold.
The logo combines a unique multi-surface object where each side is a D-Pad. Clearly the connection to the product's return to a simpler and more accesible control scheme is the main focus of the logo, satisfying #3.
The unique shape it creates achieves the other 2 criteria easily - 1) there isn't anything like it, and 2) the "cube" in the center of the logo is an optical illusion whereby the eye can see the either an outcropped cube or merely the interior surface of the D-Pad's three dimensional sides. This is just like an MC Escher drawing. Thus it attracts the eye, catches your attention (almost hypnotically), and even subtly invokes an association to the gamecube (for which there is 100% backwards compatibility).
I won't be surprised at all to find out that this logo, in some barely modified form (maybe color) is in fact the new console. Furthermore, the posts regarding 5 and the Japanese "Go" parallels the relational concept imbued in the logo. I think the Nintendo Go is the next console's brand. While the average adolescent may not understand it, the name will be very effective - hell, it requires you to say nintendo before it, making it even more of a household name.
"I spotted a mistake in the (in my opinion) photoshop. Look at the text under the logo, then look at the text next to it (Japanese). If you would turn over the picture, so you can draw a horizontal line under the text, you will see you cant draw a horizontal line under the Japanese text. (Hard to explain for me)"
I can explain this one to ya. The screen is round, just like a regular monitor. So if you're standing from the wrong angle, of course it's not gonna look the same as if you were looking at it at the right angle.
GO=5=5 bits of RAM or 5 Bit graphics
well, I'm afraid it's a fake. And could people stop going "oh!!! Go means five!!!! Fiiiiiive!!! OMG! It must be true. No photoshopper would think of that. Good thing I did."
The main reasons for it being fake have been mentioned, so I'll dwell on some more subtle if weaker) arguments.
This product: http://www.jeux-france.com/Webmasters/Images/7editeurs20060325_130042_0_big.jpg
(if links work. If not, it's a web-editing package with the same logo. Nintendo would not use the same logo.)
The logo and the text is wonky, as in the text is not parallel to the big "GO" under the logo, and some lines are bendy on the logo.
The big big reason that has been mentioned only one or two times: Neither Nintendo or GO have a (R) (TM) or even (C). (trade marks or copyright). There you are. Proof beyond a doubt.

What can I say? I was bored, and I don't have photoshop.
I quickly used Flash MX 2004, for those who care.
If it was "Nintendo G.O.", (as in Gee Ohhh) it doesn't seem so bad if u ask me.
Btw...On the other hand, this looks like it could definetly be their online...
It could be a network adapter or sumthing...
Also, if this was the real console box pic, why did they zoom so far in... itz probably a small product because they zoomed int so u couldn't see the scale...
Just my thoughts...
>>I'm still hoping it's called the NES2. The >>similarities are astounding.
Or maybe NES^2 (NES squared)?
Not a bad idea
... but the NES was officially named the Nintendo Entertainment System. The abbreviation, at least to my knowledge, was unofficial. I can see a lot of pros and cons to NES2, NES(squared), or even just calling it Nintendo. After all, as stupid as it sounds I've heard people confuse xbox with gamecube. Many resorted to just calling it "the new nintendo." I think re-associating themselves with the power of their name could be very important for them and the change to make it official makes sense.
Remember when parents called it playing "Nintendo" instead of "Playstation"?
It's not the Fith system to come out of Nintendo, it would be the 6:
1)Virtual Boy
2)NES
3)SNES
4)Nintendo64
5)GameCube
6)"GO"
There.
Here are some other things:
1)"GO" As in meaning the controller leting you get up out of your chair and letting you move around.
2)Game Online
That's about it,
I would go with 5, but unless Nintendo had forgot there first system, I don't think.
*Fifth
I don't see the GameCube.
It's fake. Take a look at this picture I found on a website that was investigating this.
http://www.jeux-france.com/images2_4_15036.html
It's the a web designing program with the same, but inverted, logo.
the 50th comment here is just retarded
I don't like the names GO or Revolution. I hope Nintendo doesn't name its new console GameBox or GameStation. RevCube doesn't sound like a good name either. To give the Nintendo Revolution a human name like Betty or Frank would be totally absurd. Surely someone can think of a more original name than GO. Most of the planets in the solar system have more interesting names than GO. Atari Jaguar was a cool name, but a cool name doesn't always cause people to buy a console. Still, I think people expect something more imaginative than GO. So far, all of the newer consoles seem to be named after their designs. I think Nintendo Viper would be a cool name, but I doubt little Susie would want a console with a snake on it.
Go is not the next console in a sequence. You must not forget virtual boy. It's a console. revolution would have to be number 6, not 5.
Nintendo RS. It will be called Nintendo RS.
For the people that keep ignoring the multiple posts of it, here it is again:
http://www.jeux-france.com/Webmasters/Images/7editeurs20060325_130042_0_big.jpg
It is the EXACT SAME LOGO!!!! The nintendo GO is totally a hoax.
Think about it. I can almost guarantee you that this is the download title for the revolution. Its been said that the Revolution will be able to play games from the past inclucing, the GCN, N64, SNES, NES, and not to mention it will be also able to play Revolution games. There you have it. A system that can play/download 5 different type of console games, my point said...
its not bad, not as good as the revolution, but its still not bad.
the logo would make sense. ever since the 64, nintendo's console logos have always been a cube shape of sum sort, so it make sense if this became nintendos next console
What about Wii? Wii would be a good name. I think they should call it Wii.
@(Unverified) You are actually an idiot
I really appreciate your help.
