Moto says Q coming in April
Waiting in vain for Motorola to release
the Q? Your wait may finally be over, at least if a promotional page on a Motorola web site is accurate. The glossy Q
promo, which apparently isn't entirely new, has been updated to state that the long-awaited smartphone will be
"Available April 2006." Which, of course, sounds about right to us. Of course, it doesn't say
when in April. Or which carriers are onboard (other than Verizon, of course). One
thing's certain, though: unless this turns out to be an early April Fools prank, we can bet both this site and
Verizon's online store are going to get a lot of extra traffic next month. Start exercising those F5 fingers, and we'll
see you in a week!

that is awesome. i was looking into a new phone today. and came to check engadget for any moto q updates. and here it is. awesome.
Guess what...they just changed that page to now say "Coming Soon" instead of April 2006. Make of it what you will....
Wow, that’s about time that they confirm and get this thing out to the masses. I do really wonder how its going to do against that new Samsung SBH or whatever its called lol, as far as all that stuff around the BlackBerry and how its gonna be the blackberry killer, I don’t think that’s 2 accurate, the OS isn’t good for that phone, the phone is big enough to support a bigger screen if they designed it properly – why would u want windows mobile for smartphone when u can have pocket pc edition AND a touch screen! I think its gonna flop! FREE HTC UNIVERSAL @ www.e-Fuze.com
Finally...just what I wanted.
A business phone with Motorola reliability.
Crap! That thing is THIN! The RAZR V3 is .54 in thick - this one is .45! Holy Shee-At! This is one I would like to get my hands on - but it ain't gonna come cheap.
a guy in one of my weekend classes helped design the moto q.. he brought it in to show us and it is truely amazing. he said that in the u.s. it will only be available to verizon. that is great news for us with verizon
I suppose when you're with Verizon, you need all the good news you can get.
I liked the Q when I first heard about it, but I have since become hooked on the crackberry, and I have a hard time imagining a better push mail solution from Microsoft. Time will tell. I am hoping that this will be a better made phone than the other Windows Mobile disasters Motorola has unleashed on us, namely the MPx 220. With the V3, Motorola got a cutting edge design pretty much right, and it actually is functional and has decent call quality. I hope this thing achieves the same effect, but I am skeptical.
Does anyone know if the Mini-SD will be I/O? Cause since the Q doesn't have WiFi, I am DEFINETLY gonna wanna get a WiFi Mini-SD card... *prays*
Well this cause the price of the RAZR and SLVR to go down? I really want a SLVR but it's too expensive for a phone.
No touchscreen? Uhh, I'll go 700p next month ;)
nick. that was the funniest thing i have read all day. thank you.
great - it is .45" thick with the battery life of 10 minutes. A lot of good it's going to do when you have to plug it in all the time or strap a hunchback of notre dame battery pack on this cool cat...it's all Madison Avenue people. Save your money and live in a cave till 2008 or so when battery technology catches up with wireless transmission needs ~ Naysayer
It makes sense that this would debut in April.
First, there's a major consumer electronics show in early April...nice timing for a major announcement.
Second, April is the start of the next quarter, and Verizon, like all companies, would want to start the quarter strong and debut the phone early enough in the quarter to make a big difference in terms of sales. Kind of like they did with the Treo 700w in the first quarter.
I would've been psyched but I couldn't play the waiting game and the bang-up job vzw did with the V3C (check out the HORRIFIC ui and crippled features) pissed me off for the last time. I just grabbed a rim 8700c and ported to cingular and I couldn't be happier.
Does anyone know of a good side by side comparisnon of the Q and the new Samsung? I'm ready to buy.
It's being shipped with no push e-mail support. Yes, a blackberry style device is shipping with no push e-mail support.
I predict another MPx/MPx220 disaster.
I also wish that it had a touchscreen, but for the target business audience, this device needs to be useful with one hand. You should only need 2 hands if you are typing an email.
The Motorola Q looks good and should do well. Although, I'm waiting for more info on the Samsung SGH-i320 before I decide who to give my money to.
On another note, why the hell Microsoft created the [shoebox] 'Origami' I will never know, as the Motorola Q et al, is where mobile computing will eventually go...
18,
Why would having a touch screen imply not being usable with one hand, unless you're very lazy like... oh, right, most Windows 'smart' phones.
Sorry, carry on.
Best looking smart phone so far. Makes blackberry looks like a toy.
Am a former CEO of World Trade Center mgmt consulting firm and raise money for tech deals in the Gulf; anybody know the best current carrier(s)/Best Device for Dubai especially--as well as in all of the 6 Gulf states of UAE, Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, UAE??
Have no bias for MOTO Q, just want the Best Smartphone to function there.
Could somebody provide more information about MOTO Q. I would be appreciated if I could get a comparison between MOTO Q and Nokia E61/E61i.
This could be pure rumor, crummy source but Verizon Tech behind service counter, I spoke to at the store said likely 1 to 2 month timeframe on the phone hitting retail and he said the price wasn't going to be stratospheric. He also told me that he wasn't supposed to discuss it (but did because I knew a bit about it). He thought around $400 with new every 2 credit and renewal of 2 year contract. Anyone hearing anything about price? It appears to have amazing industrial design, but at the end of the day it's "only" a Smartphone and my experience with that op system using the Samsung i600 wasn't perfection by any stretch. I think the keyboard will help dramatically. I'm looking for useable phone 1, useable email 2, sync-able calendar 3, and everything else is cream.
I have it from a very, very reliable source that the Q will not be available until late May or June. I work for the involved companies and an engineer close to the situation told me of this news. Definitely *NOT* April.

There is a big diffrence between a toy and a tool. The "Q" is a toy, the Blackberry is a tool. The "Q" will be great for kids using mommie's VISA card to buy it, so they can impress the other kids...until the next Bling-toy [read: RAZR] comes along.
e-mail has become as important as a phone line to businesses. Until there is a real competitor with real "push e-mail", the Blackberry will remain the grown-up tool of choice.

If it goes with verizon you won't need wifi since it will be running EVDO network.
Yes it is true that the blackberry is the king of buisness. But so are spred sheets and pictures and things that the back berry has always sucked at... Will this kill the black bery, not at first and may not ever.. but it will hurt black berry until the come up with a product that people actually have been asking for....
This is just better for all.... THAT IS IF MOTO ever stops playing games and releases the darn thing.. what are they waiting for someone to make a better phone??
