Revolution to emulate Genesis and TurboGrafx
Well, as predicted,
Iwata-san didn't announce a price, date, or even officially name the Revolution at his keynote speech at GDC this year, but they did
announce one very interesting tidbit. Remember how the Revolution is going to play games from and emulate every Nintendo
home console to date, starting with the NES? Well, that's not all: they're also including emulation for the Sega Genesis
and Turbo Grafx. Seriously, who would have thought back in the 80s such bitter rivals would eventually become so
subsumed to the N as to become a retro software package? So if y'all been missing Bonk or Sonic and haven't been up to
the eBay hunt (or garage sale circuit) to get your fix, just hold out. Who knows, hold out long enough and maybe, just
maybe, we'll get some Saturn, 3DO, and Jaguar support, too.[Via Joystiq]

"Configuring emulators, files, ROMs, and what not just takes a fun experience and turns it into a chore for the vast majority of us. Oh, and a lot of us HATE playing console games on a PC."
Ya that whole "double click the exe" thing and "plug in 5.99 usb gamepad" is quite the chore.
I had TurboGrafx 16! Bonk and Tale Spin for life :)
I also had a Panasonic 3D0, that my mom bought me for $750... haha and to this day (I'm almost 25) that remains my most obscene purchase ever, considering a Sega CD was like $200.

"Not Impressed" Sheesh, what do you want? For it to get up and do a strip-tease?
Look, gaming as GOT to reach a larger audience. It will only be a matter of time before another "Jack Thompson" wannabe shows up to invent problems, grab headlines, and instill fear in the minds of CRAPPY-ASS parents everywhere.
Let the Revo have its day in the sun.
Oi!
People, people! Once you buy the game, you own it like you bought the real thing back in the day. It is stored on the revolutions flash memory, so once you buy it ONCE, you can play with it anytime you want!
Please get your facts straight.
NOOO! Not Sega Genesis as well! I want a PS3, but now after tehy mentioned Sega Genesis, I am having second thoughts.......
Wow. Nifty. Now what do I do with the money I've saved up with the hope of getting this kind of retro gameplay from the InfiniumLabs Phantom!?!
**holds for laughter**
I don't understand why this is so exciting? Who cares about all these old games? There are plenty of awesome new games being released all the time. Why waste your time and money buying these old games? The nostalgia is good and all, but when you actually play them again, I think you'll lose interest fast.
BTW, the easiest way to get ROMs is through bittorrent.
nintendo should do this 4 old and new music 2.
good job nintndo 4 getting Sega Genesis and Turbo Grafx.now nintendo try 2 get all the sega Consoles and others and u will kill off ps3 and xbox360 now.
If this is true, then won't they need to redesign the conroller to include a "C" button?
Contra's: up up, down down, left right left right b a code better still work.
(no n00bs, no extra 'b a' is needed. Also 'select' is only appended if you are doing it 2 player)

I disagree. Given how much harder it is to make a game in HD, they will likely have fewer games all things being equal.
And for the worldwide community, HD ain't becoming a standard this console gen, it will barely be in the majority in the US alone by the end of this console gen.

- "ROMs are available all over the net"
and are not legal in most countries. You would be surprised how many people would rather have a reasonably priced legitimate item than a free one that can get them put in jail for years. The popularity of ROMs is mostly the ability to play an older game that was really good and inaccessible.
- Saturn implantation would rock, but is unlikely because that is the decline of Sega. Instead of building a new backwards compatible system, they started adding on crap and finally packaged it as something new and less useful. The Saturn is an upgrade to the 32x which was an upgrade to the Sega CD/Genesis. (the CD being an upgrade as well)
That is a lot of hardware to emulate properly. but a more likely (and possibly cooler) option would be the MasterSystem (and GameGear as they are architecturally similar) emulation. Enduro Racer anyone?
I think this sounds like a GREAT idea! My only concern is thisdownloadable content could slow the sales of new software for the unit.Think about it if you have 500+ games available to play via download for 15.00 bucks a month why bother shelling out 50.00 for a single new title?
