Panasonic TH- 58PX600U, TH-58PX60U - 58-inch, 10,000:1, 720p plasmas
Panasonic is expanding its plasma lineup with two new 58-inch models, the TH-58PX600U and TH-58PX60U. Both
offer 1366x768 resolution, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, HDMI and EZ-Sync universal remote (which is apparently a US
rebrand of Panny's Viera
Link HDMI-based remote system). Both models also have built-in HD and standard tuners and SD card slots. The
TH-58PX600U adds CableCARD and PC support. Both models are due out this summer, with the TH-58PX60U going for $5,499
and the TH-58PX600U for $5,999.

Is it just me, or does it appear that we're watching some high-def basketball in a high-school gymnasium?

They're looking at still photos from their son's basketball game using the SD card slot, OBVIOUSLY...
:)

Wow, I've never watched my son's games from a seat on the backboard...

Actually, INHD on Comcast has had selected high school basketball championships from around the country in HD...pretty amazing when you think about it, but I guess that's what happens when the right for College & NBA are all locked up with others...a country desperate for HD content combined with sports will stoop to just about anything!

...How much would tickets to sit on the backboard cost? I bet Jack Nicholson doesn't have THAT. ;)
Anyway, though I'd love a screen this big, I cannot possibly sit far enough from it in my fairly large living room to make it work for the "view distance" factor... time for a bigger house.

Am I the only one who saw "1,720P" in the title and got excited?
Oh the disappointment...

Why are manufacturers even making 720p sets now? I know there is an argument about 720p is more lines of resolution per second than 1080i, but now there are 1080p sets available. Why isn't this the standard now?

Every one shows preorder, but no one seems to really know when it will be available. Panasonic shows shipping date of 7/13 but doesn't say if that's from Japan. A major distributer said I shouldn't believe the Panasonic date.
