Rumble Pak finally available for the Nintendo DS
Even though it's been almost a full year since we first learned of its existence, we're sure gamers will still
welcome the Nintendo DS Rumble Pak
with open arms, because as well all know, gamin' just ain't gamin' unless the controller is buzzing and vibrating in
your hands. Compatible with such games as Metroid Prime Hunters and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, the Rumble Pak
fits neatly into the DS' Gameboy Advance cartridge slot, and can be yours for the low low price of only $10 direct from
Nintendo. Or, if you're in the mood to help out the [Via DS Fanboy]

I've actually had the rumble pack for like 4 mos. now. I bought it when I got teh Wireless USB adapter because teh DS can't connect via WPA (argh!). Bought it from the Nintendo online store back in October perhaps?
"Or, if you're in the mood to help out the Japanese economy a bit..."
Huh ? I thought Lik-Sang was in Hong Kong (or at least that would explain why their site references HKD [Hong Kong Dollars])?
If so you'd really be helping CHINA's economy. And if you really want to that, just move to America...
I ordered one last week. Afer S&H it came to a little over $15 USD. Of course, I could have just paid $20 USD and got Metroid Prime: Pinball along with the runble pack but I wasn't in the mood for a good pinball game.
Nintendo.com has been selling these direct for a long, long time.
Note that you're helping out the *Chinese*, not Japanese economy. Lik Sang is in Hong Kong.
Link didnt work for me.. Id say its to long so heres a tinyurl

or just goto http://store.nintendo.com and go into Parts/Accessories, DS, Parts/Accessories(again..) and there ya go.
Awesome! Now when I get stung by bees in Animal Crossing I can feel it!
Did you mean 'available by itself to the public'? I've had one since I got Metroid Pinball...
uh, yea. The rumble pak came for free with metroid pinball when it first came out. It doesnt vibrate half as much as it makes noise.
You do realise that it's been shipping with metroid pinball since launch, and that its' compatibility is quite limited.
The rumble pack works in Metroid Prime Hunters and is completely amazing, not to mention helpful. I play on the train with the sound down and can stil 'feel' when I get hit.
Beating a boss with the rumble pack produces a super cool effect too.
Will this stick out of the edge on the DS Lite?
(Note: This comment is genuinely NOT sarcastic.)
Hey! Engadget fixed the geographical error and yet did it in a way that didn't render the notification posts into aparant lunacy.
Classy. Thanks Mighty E !
I have also had the Nintendo DS Rumble Pak since I bought Metroid Prime Pinball a month or two ago and it is pretty good. It doesn't rumble as strong as I expected, but maybe if it rumbled any more it would drain the battery on the Nintendo DS too quickly.
I was wondering if it worked with Metroid Prime: Hunters and according to Kamalot it does and that is great.
The only games I know that work with the Rumble Pak at this time are as follows:
- Metroid Prime Pinball
- Super Princess Peach
- Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
- Metroid Prime: Hunters (according to Kamalot)
Does anyone else know of any other Nintendo DS games that work with the adapter?
Drew,
The Nintendo DS Rumble Pak is the exact same size as a Game Boy Advance cartridge, so yes, it will stick out of the slot on the Nintendo DS Lite, unfortunately.
See the picture below for a image of how far a GBA cartridge sticks out of the Nintendo DS Lite for reference.

Maybe Nintendo will create a new Rumble Pak for the DS Lite that is smaller, but I wouldn't count on it and that kind of sucks. The GBA cartridge sticking out of the Nintendo DS Lite is the only thing I don't like about the redesigned system.
I ordered one from Nintendo last week and recieved it yesterday morning. I was extremely disappointed. It sounds like little rubber wheels rubbing against plastic and squeaking when it rumbles. And the rumble is really really weak. Plus, I was really thinking that MP:H would use the rumble when you are shooting, but it only rumbles when you get hit... at least in multiplayer. It's also the same size as GBA cart, so it will stick out of a DS Lite, and since I plan on getting one next month I really didn't feel too stoked about that. Within 5 mins. of opening my DS rumble pak was in the mailbox on its way back home to Redmond.
I love Nintendo but the DS rumble pak is far below their usual "Seal of Quality" standard. My advice is to hold out for a new DS Lite version, or wait even longer for their next handheld which should have it built in.
What are you talking about?
I've known that Nintendo sells this by itself on their site for at least 8 months. Just tell me when it's for sale by itself in stores.
Who whould be dumb enough to buy the rumble pack seperate, when u could buy metroid prime pinball and the rumble pack for an extra $10
Metroid Pinball - here we come!
But seriously I am more anxious to finally see Opera DS released in USA. Now web browsing with Rumble support- that would be really something :)
"7. Awesome! Now when I get stung by bees in Animal Crossing I can feel it!"
That would be awesome, but Animal crossing isnt compatible with the rumble pack

P.S.
Will this rumble pack work for all DS games?
Dare I polysci nerd out on you guys and say that you'd actually be helping the *Hong Kong* economy since, although it's technically a part of the PRC, Hong Kong actually has its own independent economy.

What can I say. The internet is full of irrelevant nitpickers :)
