It was only a matter of time,
but hey, for those closely monitoring the progress of Windows on Macs, it looks like peeps on the OSx86 Project forums
have fully
done the deed with Vista on an
iMac. We're not going to get into the nitty gritty right here and now, but it sounds like the trick is to get Vista
to stop trying to kill the OS X partition when installing with
Boot Camp -- an urge in the
installer that seems to be kept at bay by taking out the 200MB EFI partition. But if you're the type of person how
wants to go for the gold and not just read about this stuff (which you probably are if you've gotten this far), we
suggest actually looking into this a little further before knocking around partitions on your Mac just to get a beta
Microsoft operating system up and running, mkay?
[Thanks, Mike and Jon]
Sweet Jesus, this bickering is pathetic. You're all so concerned with turf wars and crowing about your dad being bigger than everyone else's that any shred of the original story has been lost. When all of you people are trying to one-up each other about your OS being better while only using its amazing nuances and incredible power to post pithy comments to a web site, I have to wonder whether the irony is lost on you. Heh, or even me. Now, back to work...
It think x23 is very funny. Most of you really need to learn to laugh. You take this whole affair way too seriously. Take a look at what you are saying and reflect on it. There are much more pressing things to worry and argue about in this world than which OS is better dolled up.

Ahh... Finally someone with the long-lost skill of 'Common Sense'!
Thank you for some sobriety, for the last 10 minutes reading the comments I was feeling like a 10 year old!

Oh, but what a fun read it was!
Bill Gates must be laughing all the way to the bank. Now that he's borged the Mac too.
OS X is light years ahead of XP, so be it. Apple should invent software that allows virtualization of Windows "Apps" but not crossing over!
I personally like the design of the apple hardware. I use Windows because that's what I'm familiar with. I haven't used a Mac for about 10 years but was happy with it when I did use it. I plan on switching to the new apple hardware, when the cash is more prevelant in my pocket.
my Mac crashes 2-3 times more often than my PC.
Truth is that WinXP is an excellent and stable OS if the user isnt a fucking donkey.
Believe me I know my way around a Computrer pretty damn well and Mac = technology from yesteryear.
OSX Tiger freezes often. It happens to me it happens to 10 out of 12 people in my all OSX class.
just putting that out there to all those that are sucking Steve Job's dick.
Why do people think this is Winxp, this is Vista people, i bet no one here has even been able to get there hands on the os. N00b's to put it in lame speak.
You guys should be as sicoity refers us as, nerds. Now put your act together and think.
Yes a mac is stable, but not only becuase of there OS. A Mac OS X is fairly sluggish on a PC. Do you know why? Because a Mac is standerd, each peice theres not variabls, jsut singularity. Do you understand, ALL the Mac os x mechines have anti alasing in the graphics cards. But not all pc graphics cards do. Understand now?
I doubt it. But ive done my part, this is briallent. Beutifull even. Means there is one hell of a hacker out there willing to stick his ass out for the rest of us and make a diffrence, so we can have choice.
Me personannly think that both Mac and Windows sucks. Mac is worse, becuase of the lack of software devolpemnt for it. ANd do you know WHY its virus proof, because its bloody hard to code for. So not many hackers want to encrypt software with adaware and viruess.
I use linux(Mandrivia 2006) very good os, nice and clean visuals. Fast. Stable. Runs on both macs and PC's. Suports everything(if you know what your doing) the only thing its not good for is gaming, which i use my dual boot system for that(win xp sp3(a specail hotfix patch thats not offical).
And the system im currently using(not my good system) is an AMD Anthloan XP +1700 128MB of ram, 8-bit graphics card, yes very very weak and unblanced system. And yet it runs linux flawlessly(and visuals are styill nice)(my good comptuter is 2.8GHZ 256mb ATI graphics card 3gb of ram(quite a bit better))

May I say one thing to all the na sayers on here about Windows on a Mac. There is one very valid and good reason the have Windows on a Mac. Because majority of the networks on this great green earth are Windows based and well user a Mac on a windows based network is just a pain in the butt. So installing Windows on a Mac means less work for an IT department and less frustration.
Yeah Mac is a great operating system, and Windows has its wide world advantages, and frankly if i were in charge of the world Linux would be the only operating system. But we live in a world of diversity and self-centeredness and have Windows on a Mac just makes it a lot easier to communicate in a office.
Lastly there are twice as much software out there for Windows users that can make life a little simpler. Sure you can find it for Mac with a little more searching, but if its easier to find it on a Windows system why not. And if you have all three operating system's on one machine it just makes it that much simpliar.
Those are my two cents.

Um, I hate windows and all...
But it had preemptive multi tasking back in 1995, or was it 98?
What windows DOESN't have is Dynamic Allocation of the calibre of OS X

Um, dude...CLI totally owns GUI's tail on what it is capable of. It's good to have that versatility.
Wow you guys are really going at it. I have been working with both Windows and OS blah for the past 12 years, I've worked for ILM, Skywalker Sound, IBM and US Xpress. All companies using a large variety of software and systems. I will say that in my experience and opinion, Windows XP and 2000 and up are fine OSes. Apple has always made a good os since OS X. Before all those systems they were all buggy with blue screens (Windows)and memory bombs (Mac).
Hey Mac users, do you really care that much that your icons are smoother to look at and not all jagged like Windows icons? Do you sit and stare at your icons all day? They can both use themes to look better, but who cares because the flashiness of OS X really does bog down machines a bit. That's why there are 3rd party apps to turn it ALL off.
Windows users, who cares about market shares. I believe one user here wrote that all that matters is that the computer does what you need it to do.
For me I use Windows when I need to work with SQL servers and A.D. and pretty much anythiong Microsoft (servers like project and WSUS). I use Mac when I need to import video from a camera and easily edit an entire movie from minidv to dvd. Apple makes better software for handling this, I use iMovie for importing, used to use Adobe Premiere for editing but now using Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools for audio, DVD Studio Pro for DVD authoring and Toast for burning. I know there are the same or equivelant software for Windows but the software mentioned, and used all on a mac, just makes everything about video editing soooo incredibly simple on a Mac. Windows based software makes it so much more difficult. But I do agree Windows is very very powerful in many other areas also. When I need to administer A.D. I need Windows. Exchange? Windows. SQL? Windows. Hard code an ASP or ColdFusion web site? Windows. See web sites the way they're supposed to be seen? Windows & IE. Setup or use Project Server? Windows. WSUS? Windows. SMS? Windows. When I need to do those things Apple machines are completely useless. But when I need to do good quality video work or photo editing or MS Office (it's better on a Mac), Windows machines are useless to me just as much.
So what do I do? I use both. If everything mentioned could be done on both I would use a Mac though. There are certain features they have had in use in Mac OS X since 2000 that they are just now putting into Vista. Apple is ahead in the game as far as coming out with software with the right features when we need them.
And now on a more personal note, non OS related yet still Apple Vs. Microsoft.... Why does Microsoft continue to throw out finished, non beta products that lack so many features everyone needs or must have (archive and install, not erase docs and settings and install). There are companies out there making 3rd party apps far more superior to Microsoft Apps when Microsoft should be the inovator (updateEXPERT Vs. WSUS) as one example. Apple, they really do finish their products much much better than most of Microsoft products. I say most because once in a while they do get it right (SQL Server, IIS, Finally Exchange & Office).
Well I have come to a conclusion. I will use both systems. I will not sit and say which has this and which doesn't have that. They both in their own rights have good qualitys behind them. For myself using a PC all the time doesn't get the job done. Using a MAC all the time, sametime. So now I will invest in a MAC and have both at my disposal. If you're a high end user like myself I think that would be the best call. That's just my opintion, 'nuff said.
hi All, I just tested Vista beta on My Macbook Pro 17 just to see what happens... it works, but still a poor excuse for an operating system.
Running XP on a Mac just allows Mac user to play a few of the games they want to play, its the first time I have seen XP so stable...
The info was helpful and I installed it without any hassles.
As Far as the Mac v PC Debate (and unfortunately I have to use both), there is no competition! its like comparing a BMW to a Hyundai??
Mac are built better last longer and come pre installed with a complete software suit making them ready to use right out of the Box.
If you want a cheap computer buy a PC (and live with the viruses and buggy system) if you have the readies and want a good computer buy a Mac!
that my 2 cents worth... I'm outie:)
If you guys have so much time in your busy lives, to sit on your computers and argue, like kids in a sandpit, then your lives are pretty dull I'd guess. Keep your mind open, and use what suits you, for the task at hand. This is not a war, it is usage of computers for tasks. Period. Get a life.
Well I also did that on my Mac its cool very very cool I should say the Aero on Ultimate is worth looking.... Currently using the RTM version already.
But I still like Mac Apps since I usually use my Final Cut Pro which Windows doesn't have =)
