iRiver announces E10
And here it is, everyone, iRiver's hot new hard drive-based E10 portable audio player. Unfortunately it
doesn't have Bluetooth / A2DP as we might have hoped, but it does have a 1.5-inch color display, video playback, FM
tuner, IR blaster (apparently it can be used as a remote), a 32 hour battery (yeah, that doesn't sound quite right),
and a 3.7 x 1.7 x 0.55-inch footprint. (Our previous report also had it pinned with six gigs of storage.) MisticRiver
quotes the price -- and the mentioned specs -- at about $240 US, but we'll all have to sit tight while we wait for US
launch plans and a proper formal announcement.

Why doesn't 32 hour battery life sound right? Many other companies have made MP3 players that have twice the battery life as iPods and Zens, and have done so successfully. Sony's claims are a bit off but in the end their player's battery lives are still much longer than the iPod and co.
what about hard capacity? it looks nice..
::yawn::
It wouldn't hurt if everyone from the bigger companies wasn't ripping off the iPod form factor, i.e. black and white shiny plastick flat stick with a screen on top and control below it.
What's wrong with squares, spheres (well, flattened), cylinders, or what the hell is wrong with making it rubberized and not shiny and easy to scratch, eh?
Big corporations... and their "omg if it's not looking like an iPod we'll not greenlight it since it MIGHT not sell" attitude...
Why are all these companies making really small players with small place??? I'm sick of Apple and Creative pwning the MP3 HDD market. I wanna see thousands of 80gb+ music players to chose from one day. You'd expect them to improve on that by now, wouldn't you? stupid capitalist piggies!!!
I think it looks quite cool, but I really want to see something different, something imaginative in the mp3 player market because now, most of the mp3 players out there look the same
According to the article, its capacity is 6gb.
32 hours?
Maybe with the screen and all wireless functions turned off?
Looks awfully thick. And honestly, who cares about a 6gb HDD player? All the drawbacks(fragility), none of the advantages(capacity) of HDD are in this player. Lame.
Im gathering this is a 1" HDD and not the .85" ones, that are taking a long damn time to make it into players - but ARE in some cellphones.
Poop.
We knew that iRiver E10 was approved by Korean Radio Research Labotary. But iRiver seems that doesn’t plan to release it soon. The company didn’t show it at CeBIT 2006.

Man give it up already! You've been washed down the river so many times. Trust me, you aint gonna make a difference; esp not with that crap!
It better have 32 hour battery life to justify its extreme thickness. This iRiver needs to do some cardio.
So will this one play standard m4a's, or is this another proprietary WM player?
Yeah, that screen-on-top, circular key pattern, black coloring is soooo derivitive of the iPod. C'mon people, stop ripping off Apple!

Sure, I'd prefer higher capacity, but included FM tuner, video playback, and great battery life (if it lives up to that claim) make this a pretty good looking device. And iRiver makes good gear, from what I've heard.
Are we absolutley sure this is not a solid state drive(i.e. nano)? And I beleive this player could get 32 hours because I have a H120 iriver from almost 3 years ago and it gets 16 hours back when an ipod would only give you 8. They use lithium polymer batteries and not lithium ion.
I've got a question: will this E10 still be alive after 3 years, as your older one device? if the battery is dead, can you replace it? is that easy? nice device, I guess....
you're lucky with your h120, my h100 (ihp-100) only gets aboud 7-9 hours, but that could be dependant upon the quality and type of file you're playing.
maybe the life would increase with rockbox firmware instead of stock.
staying more on topic, i enjoy iriver products but why do they put these tiny screens on these daps and enable video playback, you can't see much with a 1.5 inch screen.
i guess it could be just for bragging rights.
what hte hell guys... you think everything is a freakin' ipod copy. What.. do you want a damn screen on the bottom and the key pattern to be a damn octagon?
Why do you think apple was the sole originator of a screen on top and controls on bottom? lmao That is a dumbass comeback for a player that kills the nano. Sure its thicker but it has FM radio, 32 hours (ryan lock has been brainwashed by the Ipod xD) and an IR ontop.Yeah it looks like your theory of iriver copying apple has been washed away xD
Doesn't look like much of an improvement at all over my H10-5GB. I get around 8-9 hours of battery life on a good charge, so I think 32 hours is definitely off. Vertical scroll pad for the win.
simple...and 32hrs?! is there some sort special battery saving feature?
Man... I can't stand iPod fanboys!!! Diamond / Rio CREATED the MP3 player market! iPods were copies of those players!!! Stop thinking that EVERY player that hits the market is a copy of the iPod. Take a look at THE FIRST MP3 Player on the market: http://www.linuxdevices.com/files/misc/diamondrio.jpg who is copying who???
iPods are stupid... they lack one of the most important features!!! The ability to play WMA's! Thank god there are a bunch of little 13 year old kids out there who think they aren't cool unless they have an iPod... if there weren't the iPod would have disappeared a long time ago.
lol you guys being skeptical of irivers 32 hours are obviously Ipod fans because all that you have delt with was 8 hours. News flash, iriver's T10 that came out months ago runs for 50+ hours on a single AA.
Man that diamondRio brings back memories. I think I still have mine around somewhere. It was pretty cool at the time although even the first Ipod was leaps and bounds ahead of it. Not an apple fan boy here, I own an iRiver. It's just that the rio kind of sucked.
The iriver U10 (god i love that thing) has almost 30 hours battery. TBH 32 doesnt surprise me. However, i think my H10 looks better than the E10. a new H10 with flash, video features and a larger screen would have been better. Still, this beats the nano :).
I think this is a cool player, people love Ipods which blocked Iriver in becoming the leading market leader due to Apple's smart advertsing campain thing. Iriver has a lot more features than Ipod which lacks sound recording and and has 32 hour battery, Iriver are experienced in making very good quality MP3 Players.
I don't like iPod. I got my nano last christmas and it broke twice already. I want to order the iRiver E10 for replacement but I can't find it.
Try warehouse123.com
I ordered my iRiver E10 from them. This purchase was made for my aunts birthday gift. Everything worked extremely well, despite the package suffered physical damage in shipping. Their sales representative began filing a claim with USPS and instructed me to re-purchase the item. He even upgraded my shipping to FedEx International Priority. I received my replacement within 48 hours. This kind of customer support is amazing to have.
I bought the E10 in Korea to take traveling , but was disappointed in the limited battery life, the difficultly installing and using the hardware. The E 10 keeps you tied to a computer and is not suited for someone on the go. It's claimed to have a 35 hour battery life but in reality it is only about 10 to 12 additionally it requires three to four hours to recharge. When I wanted to change the files I had to install the device which took fifteen or more minutes with a reboot required, which is not allowed in many public use computers. This is not a divice to take if one is staying away from one's own computer.
Charming, what are you talking about? my iriver e10 battery has a 30 hours battery life (5 hours ore more playing video)with 2,5 hours charge and a first charge of 6 to 8 hours ,and i dindn't have to install the software to play music, you have to search in "browse device" in the extras menu, probably you do wrong the first charge....
i just got one and i have a mac and its turning into a fucking nightmare trying to sort it out. help, the software for mac didnt come with it only windows. not recognised on the mac side
i just got my iriver e10 yesterday...the biggest problm is that whnvr i turn it on it says playr update required!!..so i thought maybe sumthin to do wid firmware upgrade. i tried upgradin firmware frm iriver plus 3 but it doesnt recognise my internet connection...says network error! what do i do?
bought this off buy.com for just over $100 including shipping after my ipod died for the 2nd time this year (wtf!). pros: excellent sound, compact for those on the go/gym/exercise sessions, recorder, fm receiver, custom eq, battery lasts alot longer than ipods, video and photo capabilites, and you can load up text files and read them from the player. cons: terrible interface (just like ipods) which makes searching for tracks a pain, screen is too small to make the photo/video feature useful. then again, i didn't purchase this for the video capabilities. overall, im satisfied w/ my purchase and would recommend this to anyone who has been burned by apple and their unreliable, POS excuse for an mp3 player. to all that say all these companies are copying off ipod, get a reality check! apple has been ripping too many ppl off w/ their overpriced players that always have problems eventually. just do a google search and you'll see all the ppl that have had countless problems. so even if you get that warranty for your brand new ipod, it wont mean a thing when it craps out and they send u a new one that breaks within a few months. or better yet, have your battery die and have to pay waaay to much to have it shipped back to apple just to replace a damn battery. just some friendly advice :)
