After a little legal scare
with the four major music labels, Sirius can finally market its
S50 music player without fear of
legal consequences. The labels had argued that the player's recording capabilities were a violation of previous
agreements, and had threatened to take Sirius to court to halt the sale of the player. EMI was the last to come around,
just giving their blessing today, following Warner, Vivendi and Sony-BMG who agreed to the player last month.
Unfortunately, things still sound tense between Sirius and the labels. No details of the agreement have been divulged,
but it only applies to the S50 for now, and with XM and Sirius coming up for renewal of their music licenses, neither
are out of the woods yet.

Just show the labels how awful and limited that piece of garbage is, and they'll leave you alone sirius. Then you can toil away and create a real portable device with real, portable reception.

None of those devices really address the issue they create. Can I really get portable satellite music... anywhere?
I dont think so. You are still subject to reception, indoors, and everwhere else any other player does.

No live reception of any kind. Just buy an MP3 player and get much more storage and better interface.

I have sirius and love sirius but the s50 is a waste of money it is not portable at all i want a freaking live portable unit not a save now and listen to old stuff later thing.

LISTEN UP SAT BOYS! RF is what I do and I AM HERE TO SOLVE YOUR INDOOR PROBLEM. READY? 3 Words, PERSONAL TERESTIAL REPEATER! You know a consumer version of what you currently use in big crowded cities. I see those bulbs lighting right now. You like that dont you?
Well, it would be an external antenna on the outside of the house with a repeater transmitting the signal to ALL portable devices inside. Nice one right? Yep, that one is for free. I got a million of em and if you want more, HIT ME ON THE CELL ;^)...

The S50 may have its flaws, but it works great for me and I bought it specifically to record now and listen later since I am not always around when my favorite shows are on. If doing that is good enough for television it is good enough for radio.
Until your area has a great repeater system, listening to live XM or Sirius is just plain useless unless you are outside.

Not to burst your little invention but, XM already has a repeater (Sirius doesn't as of yet).

The current line of XM2go models definitely has live reception. And XM has a great repeater network in cities; I work in Manhattan, in an interior office, where I can't even get AM/FM reception, but XM comes in just fine. It only holds 5 hours or so, but it works pretty well for my purposes.
