Onkyo unveils HDC-7 Viiv media PC
Remember that Onkyo media PC we got word of last fall? Well, the little box, now
known as the HDC-7, is now ready for its close up, and comes packed with lots of goodies, including a Pentium D820 at
2.8GHz, 1GB RAM, 400GB drive, DVD burner and all the inputs and outputs you'd expect, including DVI, component, VGA,
dual Firewire and dual USB. It's due out in Japan in late May, with pricing expected to run about ¥300,000 (about
$2,500).

So why are these machines still 42 cm wide?
I mean, they are meant to replace all audio gear so there should be no need to stack these onto other gear.
I'd rather see some innovative design.
Now that we've all got plasma screens on the wall, we can throw away our 70's audio racks.

At the very least one still needs a receiver or amplifier.
Also I doubt anybody with a good Hi-Fi (well perhaps Steve Jobs ;)) would consider HTPC a replacement.

Nice. Too bad the "viiv" graphics, AKA "the same old shitty intel integrated graphics," can't deinterlace or scale video worth a damn. Inverse telecine? What's that? VIV is total BS. There is nothing new with VIIV. But you people keep posting like it's something great. Ooooo, it has VIIV! Wow! I guess it sounds coler than "it has the Intel 975X chipset and a 3D graphics engine three years obsolete."

That gold color scheme (also from the 70s) is not going to go down well with your wife.

#1: The display to the right side and the finish it's what makes it look like a VHS. still, i'm sure there will be time for improvements before a released date.
#2: Agree, the price is not fair but it's competetive with HP's Z-550 Series Digital Entertaiment Center and Sony VAIO's Digital Living System.
#4: The Philips Showline is one of the most stylish HTPC i've seen, Glossy Black, mirror front display with a silver case., it's a shame it's not sold in the U.S.... yet.
#8: Is not gold, it's Champagne, JVC used to use it on their 1996-1997 VHS, DVD line up. it was a nice alternative for the Matte Black and Silver at that time, but once Gateway started using it in 2001 on their incredible electronics, it became "Curse Champagne", you all know what i mean by that... and have not been used by any other manufacturer ever since.
