2007 Infiniti G35 gets in-dash system with hard drive and CF
Infiniti's G35 may be the most
expensive CD ripper you ever bought (or lusted after, anyway). The new 2007 G35 has an in-dash system apparently
outfitted with not only a CompactFlash slot, but a CD
player that will also rip and encode your CDs for storage on an internal drive of unspecified size (we're really hoping
the "9.5G" mentioned in the article is a model designation, and not capacity). Sure, it might just be easier
to have a removable drive (or USB port) for dropping already-ripped
or, um, downloaded songs into your car, but Infiniti must not expect the unclean to understand luxe doesn't always
mean ease.[Via Anything But iPod]

Most expensive? Hmm wonder how much this ULTIMATE TECH LUX OPTION will cost on top of the $2K NAV PACKAGE??

dammit and i just bought a 2006 G35 coupe!

I wonder if this has anything to do with the new skyline coming in 07'. I know it will have a infinity badge.
luis @ Apr 17th 2006 11:48AM
Wrong, the new skyline is going to be a Nissan. The man himself said so very recently.
b33gee @ Apr 17th 2006 11:49AM
Actually, the Skyline GTR will be badged as a Nissan. This is a pretty cool feature IMHO. Even if you have a HD based MP3 player, I would still prefer to have something like this built into my car audio system. Hopefully, its removable so you can esily synch it with your PC (unless you have an iPod and iTunes, then you

Wow, does it automatically send you a cease and desist order from the RIAA? Maybe it can put a gps location for the nearest prison.

Lexus has the same idea for the new LS. It offers an 8GB HDD. What's unclear is if there are other ways to import music other than ripping from the CD drive. Why? Because then you can only transfer songs while in your car. How long per rip? Can you load a changer full of CDs for ripping or is it one by onein a single disc drive? What about metadata? Does it have a pre-stored CDDB snapshot and, if so, how does that get updated and more importantly how regularly? these are all key questions that determine how useful the feature actually is.

good poit about the CDDB. No one is ever gonna use it if you end up with a bunch of "artist - track 01" songs.

Chrysler's getting internal storage and USB for 2008 as well, in the Commander, Sebring, Nitro, and I believe 3 other models.
GadgetTV @ Apr 17th 2006 12:55PM
Nice but it will probably be lame. It will also probably be locked from using while driving like the GPS is.
Davix @ Apr 17th 2006 12:59PM
Dammit, I was working on a mutli-media console for cars that included this concept but also allowed for temp storage of songs played via satellite radio.
Oh well.........
embassy @ Apr 17th 2006 1:41PM
cool idea...but does it have to look so ugly and bulky in the console..??..ew.

What about those of us who live in the desert? The summer heat ruined my iPod (the most likely culprit, anyhow), and I never stored it in my car. 120+ degree heat inside of a parked car is guaranteed to fry a hard drive. If they were meant to be stored and operated in a convection oven, our PCs wouldn't be water-cooled ;)

"2. dammit and i just bought a 2006 G35 coupe!"
Ditto that, I bought one last Thusrday! #$%@
Bruce @ Apr 17th 2006 3:07PM
There is a Compact Flash (I'm sure they've heard of USB in Japan by now) port on the dash (behind the shifter in the picture). I can only hope that would be for transfering already owned (of course) songs.
balh @ Apr 17th 2006 3:40PM
right, I don't understand the point of head units with HDs and no capability to connect it to your computer. Is someone really going to sit there and rip every single CD of theirs, AGAIN? I mean, honestly...
The prices of these (including non-OEM units) types of HD units are ridiculous considering they don't even have the basic utility found in a $10 flash drive...

Love the new Infiniti G35, plus the new one is suppose to have 300hp+ from the VQ35DE V-6. Great deal for a car around ~$30k.

On an aside to those who were talking about "a new Skyline coming in '07" the current Infinity G35 is actually nearly identical to the current Japan market Nissan Skyline (in Japan the Skyline can be had with smaller motors of 3.0L and 2.5L as well as the 3.5L).
Pretty much always the "Skyline" has been an analogous car to the BMW 3 series, having models that spanned a whole range, with small motors and rear wheel drive only up to the all wheel drive super-Skyline GTR. That is what is coming out in '07/'08 will be called simply the GTR and no longer be directly part of the "Skyline" model family. Though the regular Skyline/G35 will get a refresh in '07/'08 as well.

Ok #18 those pics are bad ass, but I see the word 'concept' all over. They actually fixed the awful console and nav controls.
How much of that car will actually go into production?
adam @ Jul 19th 2006 2:22PM
you dumb ass, Nissan makes the skyline. there not gonna call it Nissan Nissan cause that would be retarded.
loikll @ Jul 19th 2006 5:29PM
I can't sit in the car and rip my CDs again. I sold em after I ripped them. Oh well I can't afford an Infiniti anyways.
g35ryda @ Jul 28th 2006 11:18AM
I guess it's about time I upgrade from my '04 6MT. I really don't care about the electronics, because I find it difficult to play around with that crap at 100 + mph.
jim carrie @ Sep 17th 2006 1:47PM
Is there any info on the infiniti '07 coupe (not the '08 concept coupe ) Is it also true that there will be absolutely NO changes from the '06!

I had one of the first G35s (2003)...It was a hard act to follow...a 1993 Toyota MR 2 Turbo triple black with gold BBS wheels, but the G was beautiful and a totally new look...it was a good start. Now I have one of the first G37s.
BEST CAR I HAVE EVER HAD!!!
The body shape is similar, but curvier...but the interior is Lexus quality...no kidding...not a tic, rattle or squeak, Beautiful textures and finishes and the audio system is spectacular. All the controls are redundant so you can use the voice recognition, the touchscreen, the wheel or the button to do just about everything...you will kill for this car...they got it right this time from top to bottom...and then there's the handling and the suspension and the engine...all perfect! get all the bells and whistles like the nav and the premium package...Mine came in right at $42,000...and worth every penny
