Blackberry's 8700g with EDGE available on T-Mobile
It was bound to
happen sooner or later, and now the Blackberry 8700 smartphone is
finally available to push email-loving members of the T-Mob, as the 8700g. As far as the features go, well, you should
all know them quite well by now, as Cingular has had this model
since late last year: quad-band GSM with EDGE data, a 312MHz Intel processor, QVGA color display, Java, and
Bluetooth 2.0, plus the standard suite of RIM-supplied applications. Getting your Crackberry fix from the big
"T" will cost you $300 with a contract (after $100 in rebates).[Thanks, Phil G]

It's about time. I've been waiting for this one for a long time. Its time to leave the 7230 behind.

that is the ugliest piece of hardware i have ever seen...
i would enjoy crushing it to bits with a brick.
please delete the salesman 'Thomas Winter's' posts as they are self serving and inappropriate...

Yes, please delete the sales guy's posts as ironically he doesn't even appear to carry the 8700 or any other RIM products!

Sup. I got one of the 8700's with Cingular when they first came out.
Digg'ed the machine a lot so I made a little site to make it much more media friendly. check it out :D

If you have a big site or something like that and you have an audience with a lot of 8700's, be great if you could mention it.
Sir Kaber @ Apr 18th 2006 1:20AM
The site's going to look a bit funny if you view it from your PC. Created it for easy use from your Blackberry 8700...

Does the added speed of EDGE connection justify the extra costs involved? How much of downloading can you do on a device without a hard drive.
Bob-o @ Apr 18th 2006 5:34AM
EDGE isn't *that* fast that it justifies downloading. But its excellent for Google Maps, web browsing, etc.

Blackberries will not alllow you to send text messgaes to multiple recipients, or recipient groups. Will this one? Anyone know? Until then, I can't get with Blackberry.

If only this came out before I got my Tmobile MDA...This is very tempting. I had a 7230 before and this looks a lot better. Should I drop the $250 for this or just keep the MDA hmmmm.....

Hell yes EDGE is that fast. Edge is way way faster then the old network.

Maybe this was the case with some of the older models, but yes, you can send test messages to multiple recipients.

I am a current t-mobile subscriber and I called t-mobile to get the 8700. They wanted to charge me the $299 and I threatened to drop them and go to Cingular. They transfered me to customer service where they gave me the phone for $199 and no rebates.

I called UShop Wireless on April 11th & they sold me the BlackBerry 8700g for $99 & they sent it overnight so I had it the next day. Not sure how they had the devices in stock before the launch but it was great having the cell phone before everyone else. If you want to check them out here is the site www.ushopwireless.com. Please post comments with features as I have not had time to really learn everything yet but the features I am using are great. High Speed internet is prob the best feature.
