Teclast's other "dual core" DAP, the T19
We see a lot of digital audio players pass through here, but Teclast is one of the first manufacturers we've seen to incorporate a separate processor for audio decoding. Just weeks after we spotted their first so-called "dual core" DAP, the C150, comes another PDA-esque model called the T19, which has the same dedicated Wolfson WM8750 decoding chip as the "C" but adds a 1GB option into the mix. Besides MP3 playback, the "T" features MPEG-1 video support, and sports extras such as an FM tuner, line-in recording and voice recording, along with an eBook reader, dictionary, and calendar. Probably only available in China for the time being, the T19 costs 77 or 90 dollars worth of yuan for the 512MB and 1GB versions, respectively.

Looks very nice. I like it, but 1GB... what a waste!

Shaped like an old nokia 7270. But the price is nice, even for 1GB...

Gonna be tough to squeeze even 1 movie into that 1 GB if compressed with MPEG 1...factor in music and that 1 GB is severely crippled. Why not MPEG 4 support????

Again, aren't all the iPod's dual processor (and have been all along)?
Ism @ Apr 18th 2006 5:35PM
Seperate chips for decoding and UI is hardly news...the Rio Karma did this years ago, and even some of their flash players had this feature. Moot point, due to their fate, however.

iPods also are dual-processor (80mhz ARMs in 4G and minis, don't know what the 5Gs use).
Moot point also, due to their fate. Oh, wait.

The Cowon A2 used the DM320 processor from Texas Instruments which is also a Dual core processor

Is that a Nokia?

Could we get over the whole 'core' nomenclature already? So is the XBox360 technically a tri-core since it's using 3 cell processors? Technically isn't any gaming rig a dual-core box since it has a dedicated graphics processor?

Someone is going to burn it with that lighter!
Da James yo izzy @ Apr 18th 2006 8:29PM
What is up with that lighter! And only one gig...that really suz...but still what is up with that lighter!
matt @ Apr 18th 2006 10:16PM
next up...
DUAL-CORE TV REMOTE and DUAL-CORE MOUSE and DUAL-CORE WEBCAMS and DUAL-CORE CELL PHONES! WOOHOOO
btw xbox360 uses a triple-core g5-based processor. ps3 uses a 9-core cell proc. and those are actual cores.
and speaking of this crap... they're abusing the terminology. dual-core means u got two cores on one chip. if u have two chips, that's dual-proc, or dual-chip. if that mp3 player has two chips, that means it has DUAL-PROC. not DUAL-CORE... am i right?

"10. What is up with that lighter! And only one gig...that really suz...but still what is up with that lighter!"
gonna bet it is in some crazy way related to the cigarette case the actual device is leaning against. just throwing that ridiculous idea out there.

Just one question - what's the point of "dual core"?
I believe that the key-detail in a mobile unit is power consumption. Unless this dual core thing actually extends the battery life, there is absolutely nothing that makes it more attractive. What could it be? "plays songs faster"?
On the other hand, I must admit that the ebook reader is a handy instrument [though it depends on which formats it uses ], and the price is very very attractive... hmm..

Well, if Dual Core is all the rage, where is the damn gapless playback on these DAPs?
