Aibo to join Robot Hall of Fame
To the list of those whose extraordinary contributions to our culture were not recognized during
their lifetimes -- think Vincent Van Gogh, Franz Kafka, Joey Ramone -- let us now add a coda for a creature whose
existence was cut short far too early, but who will now be memorialized in a most fitting way: Aibo. Sony's late, lamented robotic dog will soon enjoy a place of
honor in Carnegie Mellon University's Robot Hall of Fame, sharing the accolades with such other luminaries as Asimo,
the Mars Pathfinder and Astro Boy (the Hall of Fame honors both real and fictional robots). The induction ceremony
(which will also include Gort of "klaatu barada nikto" fame) will be on June 21. We only -- sob -- wish Aibo
had made it just a little longer, to enjoy this honor.

They should invite owners to come and have a ton of dancing aibos. That would bring a tear to my eye

Surely Aibo will live on through the magic of eBay, right? I'd love to pick up one myself one day, though I don't have the budget to cover a robot dog just yet.

Good point ThePete. I think it's time to eBay my Aibo. :)

How, pray tell, do you have a Robot Hall of Fame WITHOUT Rossum's Universal Robot(s) in it? The very first robot ever, and where we actually derived the term "robot" ("worker" in Czech). Yet we have the David from Spielberg's AI??
Guess what the first Robot story was about? Endgadget gets it every time! Revolt of the Robots!!
Also missing: Adam Link. Of course, very few people realize that HE is I, Robot -- the from the original short story "I, Robot" penned by Eando Binder, NOT Isaac Asimov (Asimov's Editor actually retitled his collection from "Robot Stories" to "I, Robot" much to Asimov's displeasure at the theft). Okay, so that little tidbit alone should earn poor old Adam Link a place in the Hall of Fame.
How do you get on this council at CMU? Obviously they need to talk to me! :)

Sony rarely makes good products, and when they do, they are usually stolen ideas. When they do this, they usually overcharge. I wil say this, the Aibo was an AMAZING product. It was one of the few peices of originality I have seen from Sony, and it was good. Sony, please stop stealing from Nintendo and start making more good products like this!

#7: Ouch! direct and accurate. Based on your comment, from Whom Sony stole the AIBO concept and technology?
