Sanyo PLC-XF46 12,000-lumen networked LCD projector
This one's more likely to end up in the boardroom (or even auditorium) than the home media room, but we still can't help but want to check out Sanyo's PLC-XF46 LCD projector. The $28,000 projector is capable of pumping out 12,000 lumens, but if that's still not bright enough for you, two of these babies can be networked together to produce 24,000 lumens on a 600-inch screen. By comparison, most home and business projectors max out at about 3,500 lumens, and many are significantly dimmer. With specs like that, we figure that if enough companies don't snap these up, Sanyo can always start selling them to tanning salons.

Wow! I'd buy that right now if it wasn't so expensive... too bad. This site should do a review of projectors - which is the best for your money for watching movies? And what about upcoming HD movies?
12,000 Lumen Bulb with a 12,000 Lumen Bulb Price Tag... :P
"The $28,000 projector is capable of pumping out 12,000 lumens, but if that's still not bright enough for you, three of these babies can be networked together to produce 24,000 lumens..."
I'm no maths expert or anything but isn't 3 lots of 12,000 about 36,000? Getting a calculator out shows that a mere 2 of these $28k projectors would create the 24,000 lumens.
Maybe these are metric lumens or something.
Dave, you're wrong and displaying your stupidity.
Imagine having two monitors next to each other, is the output twice as bright as compared to a single monitor? No, it's twice as large, but the same brightness.
Same applies for shining two projectors next to each other.
But hey, maybe you're right and the company that produces these things is wrong. You'd think that they'd get a calculator out before charging $28,000! They should employ you as to research guy! Or maybe not...
If anyone cared to read the article, it stated TWO projectors put together would produce up to 24,000 lumens. Engadget obviously didn't do the math or misquote. Dave was correct and Joe research before you start flaming.
Hey Joe (your surname is not Sixpack, is it?), ever thought of the remote possibility of the people at Engadget.com making a mistake?
Click the "read" link and you will read: "[...] If two of these [...] are stacked and aligned together [...] they can produce a total of 24,000 lumens on screens up to 600 inches in diagonal size."
Two monitors may not be able to produce twice the brightness of one, but two projectors can.

Joe -
i don't think dave is displaying any stupidity at all -- i'd say you are. they're not putting the two images next to each other; they're putting each image on top of one another. engadget got it wrong -- two projectors are combined to produce 24,000 lumens, which makes sense. i think the real challenge would be lining up two projectors casting an image from two different angles. it doesn't seem like it would be physically possible, but i suppose each image is being refracted just right to make it happen.
I love it when someone is so clearly, and objectively,
proven wrong,
wrong, especially when they're such a fucking asshole about
it.
Let's STOMP JOE'S HEAD into a messy dribble.
and if any cared to read the engadget post then they would clearly see that engadget has wrote...."but if that's still not bright enough for you, THREE of these babies can be networked together to produce 24,000 lumens on a 600-inch screen" so its a typo for engadget
wow i've never seen somebody so rigorously flamed. Nice job guys :D
Hey I heard this is where you come to flame Joe!!
Egg doesn't look so good on the face eh Joe?
On topic:
I would hate to see the cost/duration of the lamp.
I did (past tense) have a projector, but the lamp couldn't keep up with my needs. Now I stick to flat screens....c'mon OLED hurry up.
Joe tries to be a smart alec in an attempt to hide his retardation.
It sure would be pretty great torture to make someone stare into one of these! Ouch
Thanks to everyone who pointed out the typo. It's been fixed.
Sanyo is almost in bankrupcy how they manage to stay in business selling this type of products at thouse prices when they's so much competition in the front projector market?
Actually, LCD tanning beds could be quite the product. You could get various images tanned into your skin like some kind of temporary tattoo. I would imagine the market for that sort of thing would explode if the price point were low enough, (and you could get enough UV out of an LCD)
