Nokia N72 launched
Along with the N93 and N73, Nokia just launched their new N72 multimedia tri-band GSM / EDGE cellphone. This Symbian S60 handset features a 2.1-inch, 176 x 208, 262k color display, Bluetooth 2.0, and 20MB internal memory expandable via RS-MMC. Media support includes a digital music player with dedicated music keys supporting MP3 and AAC playback, an FM Radio with Visual Radio support, and throws in a 2 megapixel shooter with integrated flash capable of CIF video capture at 15fps. Nokia is positioning this pup as a "multimedia computer" which is a bit of a stretch, but we'll play along for now. Expected in Pearl Pink or Gloss Black sometime in June 2006. More pics on the flip.

Nokia finally brings out a really good fashion phone with decent memmory, unlike the crappy old fashion phones with less than 3 meg of memmory.
You gotta love the pink one!
T10 @ Apr 25th 2006 8:03AM
eric, what the heck are you talking about. S60 Nokia phones had RS-MMC or SD expandability for years. Heck my 6260 rocks a 1gig RSMMC card. And it is older than Moses.
Eggroll303 @ Apr 25th 2006 8:42AM
Wow im really impressed with the new series, and especially the N72. Now comes the hard part of finding the money to buy it...=(
sarah @ Apr 25th 2006 9:29AM
looks nice
Elias @ Apr 25th 2006 9:41AM
Beautiful phone, but what's up with making it only tri-band?
Most Moto and HTC phones these days are quad-band. My HTC Faraday not only has quad-band, but it has a 320x240 screen, too.
djsyndrome @ Apr 25th 2006 10:26AM
What's with the music navigation? Right and left being volume up and down, and up and down being track forward and back? Bass ackwards!
Joe @ Apr 25th 2006 11:19AM
Meh. Like the 6682 it's still too big and thick. Also looks like they failed to put a standard headphone jack on this one also. Hope you like the headphones that come with it cause that's all you can use.
fitzco @ Apr 25th 2006 12:10PM
Great phone features except, Nokia needs to start making these phones Quad band.
nate @ Apr 25th 2006 1:08PM
so i'm assuming all nokia going cingulars way right....god i have to leave sprint...no good units
afrokenjonny @ Apr 25th 2006 3:06PM
Engadget u guys have to FACT CHECK. on the tech spec page it says this model takes RSMMC. i dont know why you'd get it mixed up with SD. your information has been light and non-specific for geeks like us...esp. getting these fine differences mixed up.
Shang @ Apr 25th 2006 6:14PM
#1, no offense but why would a GUY like you Erice care about a pink version of a phone
afrokenjonny @ Apr 25th 2006 6:45PM
see, even AFTER your "fact checking" it's still wrong. N72 is RS-MMC card compatible, not MinSD. MiniSD is NOT RS-MMC. for a past article, you called the N80 quadband and 2100/1900mhz 3G. however, it was only planned that n80 had quadband but only one of EACH 2100mhz 3G as there were 2 versions.

aren't you being a little stereotypical?
alan @ Apr 25th 2006 8:07PM
Doesn't seem to have any significant differences from my N70.
John Stracke @ Apr 25th 2006 8:13PM
Looks almost exactly like my 6682 with different styling and a bit of Moore's Law thrown in (Bluetooth 2.0, 2MP instead of 1.3, more memory). Oh, and FM, ooh ahh.
Hamson @ Apr 25th 2006 8:23PM
Why does it seem like Nokia can't make a phone that doesn't look outdated or just downright ugly?
Ian @ Apr 26th 2006 1:49AM
They REALLY need to work on getting with the times when it comes to memory cards. It's quite hard to find MMC, and MUCH easier to find SD.
NokiaBoy @ Apr 26th 2006 3:54AM
Mr Shang! Have you ever worn a pink shirt? Don't be so stereotypical... Pink phones are cool man, the colour PINK is not just for the femail variety mate... LaCost, Polo, and Gucci are now making mens wear in pinks as well, so leave it alone... get a black phone and be boring dude, but leave Eric alone... Nokia ROCKS!
Eric @ Apr 26th 2006 8:07AM
TO the record, i have a black 6230 with 512MB MMC and thnx to all those hu support the point of having a black phone. I have a straight friend hu happens to swap his Motorola V3i back cover, a pink for a black one. I seriously don't think theres nething wrong with pink.
Shang and T10, learn to accept the many ppl in life
As u T10 - u sound like a SE user
narushan @ Apr 26th 2006 8:09AM
display is not so good. many fones are equipped with QVGA
displays. 20MB of flash memory not so good either. fone is pretty tho but looks similar to SE's w800i.
GSM also just triband!
Eric @ Apr 26th 2006 8:10AM
I meant pink, but u all get the idea =P
Dick Cheese @ Apr 26th 2006 9:45AM
The only pink I want is on the inside of the labia majora
Micci82 @ Apr 27th 2006 6:39AM
N72 is based on N70 but its not 3G phone. And U cant even compare SE or other brands high-end phones to Nokias because their phones arent even smartphones! They have only few ugly looking smartphones.
In N70 or N72 U can download all kind off softwares. Mp3-players, games, office tools all kind other stuff.
I have now N70 and its propably the best phone I have ever had.
Tecnozoom @ Apr 28th 2006 8:44AM
Somebody know which will be the price of this cell phone?
petersfield @ May 4th 2006 2:58PM
I have a Nokia N70 which was purchased a few months ago in England. I have since moved to the US and although I am able to just change the sim card for a local mobile phone carrier, the email was already preset to O2 in UK. This prevents me from using the email function now that I no longer use O2. Can anyone tell me how to change the email to accept email service other than O2? Thanks.

Well I have just ordered the Nokia N72 (black, of course) from the internet with 6 months half price line rental on o2 250mins + 100 texts a month. Line rental £17.50 for 6 months then £35.00 for the remaing 6 months of my 12 month contract. Seemed like a good deal to me. I will let you know what it's like when I receive it
