Warner to release first hybrid HD-DVD May 9th
Those early adopters who've already picked up a Toshiba HD-A1 but
don't want to buy duplicate copies of each movie for use on their current car and portable DVD players have gotten a
reprieve from Warner Home Video, who just announced that the first hybrid HD-DVD/standard DVD will be available on May
9th. However, folks looking for a Matrix-like title to put their new toy through its paces will probably be
disappointed with Warner's choice: the critically-panned 2005 Kevin Costner/Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy
"Rumor Has It." Plus, don't think that the 480p content on the flip side of the disc is just a bonus, as
these hybrid offerings are debuting for eleven dollars more than their single-copy counterparts. Still, if these discs
enable you to create a backup of the flicks you buy on HD-DVD, even at non-HD resolutions, the extra dough might be
worth it in order to get maximum utility from your purchased content.[Via eHomeUpgrade]

What video is next, "Fried Green Tomatoes"?
All the geeky early adopters are going to want to see "Rumor Has It".
What do movies such as this possibly have to gain from HD? Worthlessness of the movie aside, wouldn't a LOWER resolution HELP these particular "celebrities" out with all their wrinkles, staples, sutures, caked on makeup etc. etc.
Also, wake me up when an HD-DVD player can focus past a DVD layer. Thats a hybrid disc. I can glue two discs together and tell people to flip it.
Sorry to crap all over you well intended post...
Rumour has it... that's still crap!
Do Warner Bros. executives wake-up on the wrong side of stupid? Or is that just part of the job? That is TOO MUCH MONEY!!!
Where the hell is Spiderman, Harry Potter, and LORD of the F__king RINGS? These would be the movies I'd be willing to consider buying for $60 dollars -- I wouldn't ACTUALLY buy them, but I'd consider it.
Maybe they think that "Hey, if these numbskulls will buy 'Rumor Has It' in this format, they'll buy *anything!*"
i personally think that everyone is going to be out a bunch of money once they realize that HD-DVD and Bluray arent worth the extra to-do over standard DVD.
make HD content downloadable and streamable to all of my TVs in my house - then you can have my money.
What the? I thought both HDDVD and Blueray played all existing DVDs and CDs. Wasn't this one of the major selling points, ie it's not a whole new medium type ie tape to DVD, you can still use your DVDs on the new machines?
Looking at that cover I would of dropped Aniston for jolie too!!! Good move Brad!
When DVD started all we saw was a bunch of crap as well. They try to make money off of their loser videos by hoping early adopters are desperate for material.
This time around I'm going to wait until there is a clear winner. ie the other format is canceled.
mark ruffalo in hi-def? sign me up!
i like the part where jennifer anniston has miracle whip on her ***** and kevin costner ***** her ***** with two ****** and shirley maclaine ***** her ******* taiwanese midget **** soup spoon *** ***** bowling trophy!! best scene ever!
ISHTAR!!!!!!!
atleast now someone would have to see Rumor has it. I like the strategy for Warner. how else could they have been able to sell a movie like rumor has it?
What is happening here is that WB is releasing a crappy title in this "test" because when it flops they can say that this dual format thing was not successful. With all the whining the MPAA and friends make, do you really think they want you to have easy access to making a "backup"? Remember, another copy is cheap enough that if your disk dies - they want you to buy another copy - not use your backup...
"Do Warner Bros. executives wake-up on the wrong side of stupid? Or is that just part of the job? That is TOO MUCH MONEY!!!
Where the hell is Spiderman"
Spiderman's a Sony movie, brainiac.
This is a good penthouse movie.
ew! keep that low-res crap off my next gen discs!
$11 more than normal DVDs?
Yeah, I dont think so. They better start pricing HD-DVD as cheap as DVDs or it will never take off. HD content looks great, but not at the cost of $11 MORE PER MOVIE great.

Eleven bucks more? I thought the advantage of HD DVD was lower cost due to nearly identical manufacturing process.
