The word is in on Canon's
PowerShot SD630 6
megapixel compact, and while the pics, speed, and LCD get lots of love, a few problems with the controls and lack of
optical image stabilisation might crimp your style. The $400 3x zoom camera sports a whopping 3-inches of LCD, and
while it's hard to hate on that much screen, it doesn't seem to leave much room for the controls, which end up being a
bit cramped. Luckily the photos are great, and if you're really hung up on the image stabilization you can always
spring for the SD630's older brother, the
SD700 IS.

'least it doesn't beat my SD550 I bought last month. I really don't know whats the purpose of a compact with 7.1mp, but... who cares.

I picked this camera up about a week ago when it first arrived at the store locally.
It just plain ROCKS! I'm pretty steady, so I don't worry about IS too much. It is FAST, FAST FAST! The screen real estate is amazing, yet somehow doesn't seem to negatively impact battery at all. I shot 230 pics the first night (in a short time anyway) and no battery warning yet.
Sweet camera! Replaces my SD300 I sold.

Everybody knows that Canon will update their new digital cameras with IS. They've been known to release "updated" models that offer new features, like the SD400 -> SD450 release. Maybe they'll release an SD650 IS.
...Either way, I'm already settled with my SD630. Such a HUGE step up from my "old" Sony DSC-T7. I don't have to worry anymore about taking a picture and wondering how crappy it looks at the full resolution when I get home. I've always liked Canon.

I bought the 630 for myself because it's hard to get the sd 500 out of my wife's hands. I have to say it rocks also. Image stabilization would be nice but it does have up to 800 ISO equivalent without too much of a grain problem. The video at 640 p, 30fps is really nice and basically removes any requirement for a video cam for short clips but ( I think it gets about 8-10 minutes of video on max res/fps on a 1gig sd ) lucky you can get SD cards dirt cheap now @ 25 for 1gig on newegg. I have to say that the canon SD line is really nice, having owned an older minolta and pentax digicam. Would be nice if it allowed you to create your own sound effects and background images but I guess it's not a laptop. Great job canon!

Actually, all of the recent Canon cameras (those with the Digic II processor) take 640x480 at 30fps until it fills the card! Though I saw somwhere recently that stated a 1gb file size limit for video. I purchased the SD600 and I think that it is FANTASTIC. I didn't need a 3" screen and I wanted the optical viewfinder for when the battery is low or for low lighting conditions. But the UI is the usual slick Canon with a few added bonuses! My last 5 digital cameras have been Canons... and everybody who asks me already knows what I'll suggest to them! :)

To those who own this camera....Can anyone tell me how long can you take a video clip for continously? It only stated 30 seconds, but can it really go longer. I have a a95 and it goes for about 3 minutes and that would be so perfect if this camera can do the same.

To all the Canon SD series owners with the image stabilization problem. I found this trick that acts as a stabilizer. Set your camera to kids & pets and that should resolve your problems.

if you need IS - give up the damn coffee, amateurs.

Just ordered this and it should be here late next week. 350 bucks, 65 for a 2GB 150x SD card, and then 40 for an extra battery. should be a nice upgrade for my S110 Digital Elph. Just in time for E3 too :D
anyone can give me a full list of what's in the box? wrist strap? USB cable? batt charger? AC charger?
