Ezurio's low power Bluetooth 2.0 adapter
Let's face it, not nearly enough laptops come equipped with Bluetooth out of box. An increasing amount are offering them as options, but if you were looking for an excuse to get a USB dongle, it may have just arrived in the form of Ezurio's new Bluetooth USB dongle. They're claiming their Class 1 300 meter (about 1,000 feet) Bluetooth 2.0 EDR adapter uses just one ten of the juice of most other adapters. We don't yet know what they're asking for it, but there are probably a couple of older machines 'round here at the old office that could use the old Bluetooth treatment on the cheap.[Via The Inq]

What do you people use bluetooth for anyway? The only thing I can see to use it for is to sync with a cell phone, but that's such a pain in the ass to set up that it's almost useless.
BT has a mixed representation in the market. It's biggest for headsets, and so I think with Skype etc. people want more bluetooth access to PCs. Otherwise, I'd say sync'ing with a BT phone for a modem connection and GPS are other big reasons for going with BT (both for PCs and PDAs). Outside of that, there is competition with RF (mice, KBs) and to a lesser extent IR (for PDAs), but all Macs have BT built in. BT is nice because it doesn't require a separate driver (standardized protocols) or a dongle if you plan ahead.
What OS and phone are you using, Kev50027? I'm thrilled by the smoothness of syncing my phone and computer via Bluetooth. Also, phone remote-control functions (or even just BT keyboards) are pretty cool, especially if you want to watch a DVD on the laptop and you position it just out of reach..
I use bluetooth for wireless synching between my Treo 650 and my PC. I also use it to control my PC from my Treo using Salling Clicker (which also works with a large variety of bluetooth-capable phones), primarily using it to control iTunes and ZPlayer.
It's actually not hard to set a phone to sync.
My new use is pairing my BT headset with my laptop for Skype. Works pretty darn well, and makes it much more like having a real phone. Even though my laptop has the BT built-in, I could see getting this dongle to increase the range - if indeed it lives up to that 300 ft claim. With my internal I only get about 10 feet without too much static.
I wish there were more PC utilities to do interesting things with Bluetooth, but I've only found a couple: a Winamp controller and an auto-lock that restricts access to the PC when the phone isn't nearby. Anyone know of any other interesting ones?
I use bluetooth to send p0rn to my cell phone and then send it to other unsuspecting cell phone owners who happen to leave their bluetooth on. Its really fun actually.
Other than that though haven't used it for anything else than transfer my phonebook to my pc when I was going to flash my phone for a new firmware.
well I just wraped up my computer systems course in college, and I use computers everyday and enjoy working with them, and I have yet to use a single bluetooth device in my life (for personal use, I learned alla bout it in class).
Its just really not needed for anything I do. All Wireless products you buy which are RF come with a reciever. The only thing with bluetooth is basically you dont need a pripiotary reciever if your laptop has built in bluetooth.
but thats only gonna help you if you use a bluetooth device, and most stuff works great without bluetooth. The only thing I could ever see myself using bluetooth for would be wireless headset for my xbox... but then the xbox controllers dont have bluetooth so I would have to buy a bluetooth adapter, in which case I could just buy a non-bluetooth headset for cheaper
I see bluetooth becoming way more useful in the future when everything supports it, then it does today.
In a way, a Mini bluetooth adapter defeats the whole purpose of bluetooth. I suppose this product is only useful for owners of bluetooth products when tehy buy new laptops which dont have bluetooth built in.

I just picked up the Kensington Bluetooth 2.0 adapter for $40. So far, all I have done is send my Outlook 2003 contacts to my Samsung A900.

BT is just at the beginning of its long journey. Well it's quite natural that plenty of unpopularities or even shortcomings exist at present. However,we can foresee a bright future for it 'cause its brandnew concept about communication against the traditional one. It is wireless! Obviously things gonnna better when they gonna simpler, so blueteeth is better as it's abandoned a stressful line.
Is it possible for me to get a Bluetooth dongle and a regular bluetooth headset thingy; then, use them as a mic/speaker?
This wouldn't be exclusively for skype, gtalk also...
#6, do you REALLY do that? Seems really dangerous to me if so; what if you send pr0n to the cellphone of a kid? I'm pretty sure that would get you in some serious ass trouble. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you don't actually do that, but thought it was a funny joke to claim you did.
i picked up the dlink dbt-120 this previous week to sync my pocketpc and nokia 6230 with my pc, but the widcomm controls are useless. i couldnt ever get nokia pc suite to recognize that yes, i had indeed bound a com port to the phone for syncing. ended up taking it back and doing some research into dongles that might work better.
