Just in case you didn't manage to catch Sony's E3 presentation, or can't handle scrolling through
our liveblog of the event (though we can't imagine why that would be the case), here's what you need to know about the PS3 launch, straight from the conference floor: "Today we're pleased to announce the global PS3 launch details. We will make PS3 available via a two-configuration plan. One with a 60GB HD. And the other with a 20GB hard drive.
Japan's date: Nov. 11. In Japan 59,800 Yen. The 60GB PS3 will have an open price which retailers will set. In
North America [to launch Nov 17]: 20GB for $499, 60GB for $599. Europe has 20GB for 499 Euro, 60GB for 599 Euro. 2 million to ship worldwide during the launch window. 4 million by end of calendar year 2006. By March 31, 2007 they'll have shipped 6 million worldwide." Any questions? Then start scrolling through
the liveblog. You know you want to.
Sony, you are a bunch of shameless disgusting rip-offs, even for you this is a new low.
sony is awesome and the playstation 3 is awsome plus its the cheapest blue ray dvd player out did u know that and the ps3 will definitely beat the nintendo wii and sony u have outdone yourself and ive had a ps2 for more than 5 years and had no problems with it keep up all the great work with all your consoles and youll have the best graphics out on the ps2 excellent work sony.

Holy $$$ batman!
C'mon, Sony. Completely ripping off Nintendo and not giving them any credit? That's just not cool. Especially when you do it the *DAY* before the Ninty press conference.
HUH!
$500
WOW
Lets see how low the Wii is first....
I was all set to be wowed by the presentation and was let down something serious. Unlike last year's E3, this one had horrible pacing and seemed incredibly boring. One got the impression that they had a couple of single A rated titles that was carrying this thing; a sharp contrast to last year.
W00t...
*starts saving*
With a launch price like that, they lost a LOT of customers.
you could buy a hyundai for that price
why do Europe always get fucked in the ass with the highest prices?!?!
http://www.revolutionfanboy.com/2006/05/08/rumor-wii-to-sell-for-249/
Where were the Killzone-2 level graphics we were promised?
This entire presentation was a dissapointment, especially the Wii-wannabe motion sensing controller.
The Dual-Shock is a deeply-flawed controller that is in a need of massive changes, not simply ripping off a tilt-sensor from Nintendo.
Motion sensitivity has existed for a long time and has been used for computer to emulate wireless joysticks. It is in no way uniqe to nintendo. Furthermore the dualshock design is merely the culmination of the most prefered features of gamepads sold for computer use. Your statement is void
Any details on the Australian launch? Wikipedia has nothing.
anyone else notice they're charging $100 to upgrade to a 60gb hd? hard drive space hasn't cost that much since the nineties.. they should make the $500 60gb and the $600 120gb or something. or hell, drop the choice. just make it 60gb for $500. blah, that's ridiculous.
I have a 360 now .. my next console will be a Wii. Screw Sony.
Thats BS, I'm from Canada and it is going to be about 20 bucks more up here after the exchange rate, Europe is paying 160 MORE per unit. DAMN, They should get an extra game or something for that profit margin.
OH YEAH, and everyone is forgetting that pretty much every retailer will ONLY SELL BUNDLES. So take you 600 bucks and add another 150 or so for bundles and protection plans.
I love the system Sony, but this'll hurt the wallet.
that is'nt a bad price considering how good the ps3 is.
its got gr8 graphic's, best games!!, motion sensing!!wot more do u need :D
and how come theres no launch date for europe ?
Think about it folks.
$500-$600 is nothing. Seriously.
You're not just getting a game system, but a full entertainment experience. And computerr. And don't forget- the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market- thats also packed with Playstation goodness. It's more than just a game system and I think that for what they're selling it as, thats some cheap hardware right there......
ripoff? fanboy...
how is it $600 equalivant for the 20 GB in Japan? :(
indeed. Australia has an economy as well, so we'd like some release dates.
although, if everybody buys a ps3 at that price, the economys going to get a shock.
Ooof. That's way way above where they needed to come in at.
It looks like the Xbox 360 won this round.
Oh man, you mean I get to pay $500 for a bunch of racing games, pre-rendered cutscenes coupled with a poorly-imitated motion sensing controller shamelessly stolen from Nintendo? WHERE DO I SIGN UP?!?!!
I don't think there's been a single more self-damning presentation in the history of the show.
Jesus christ, why do we europeons have to pay US$160 more that everyone else?
Fuck you Sony.
Wow, $500-$600 will it at least come with a free game or two controllers? The racing game looked kinda interesting but not for $500-$600. I'll get an HD TV first before it.
i hear wot ur sayin "OzzsCrss"
the ps3 is so much and its price matches what you get
i can live with $500
and most of u are gonna buy it anywayz sooner or later
well . . . yeah 600 is alot . . . but when you think about it your getting alot of stuff in there i mean the blueray alone is going to be cheaper with a ps3 . . . you get that larg hard drive . . .
im willing to pay and pay i will on nov 17 + the protection plan of course for you know a year down the road :giggles:
and as for the motion controller . . . im happy . . . i think it will be really cool to see what people can do with it i do understand that its a 100% rip-off from nintendo but you know what . . . i dont really care becuae i will own a wii too . . . but to me making your system as cool as you can is worthy of respect. you dont hear people knocking car makers for stealing volvo's idea of the seatbelt lol . . . its shameless but i'll take what i can get for a better gaming experience
:-D
Ok, all you whining babies need to STFU.. you're getting the most powerful console on the market for 500$ and a BlueRay disk player. Knowing that a standalone will probaly cost 800+, I still can't figure out what all you wussies are crying about.
Go get your Wii's and your Xbox 1.5, the time for next gen is now!
The key to the more expensive price is free online services. You no longer have to pay a yearly fee like XBLive.
who cares if they ripped off the motion sensing idea. Nintendo is not your nana.
The PS3 is still the same price as the HD-A1 HD DVD player, but it plays BDs in 1080p, and it comes with a game system. Seems like a good deal to me.
"Wii to sell for $249?"
RE:Ed Van Lint + Jasafar
I think a xbox360 with all the games thatll be out by that time or a Wii at such a nice (but possibly too optimistic?) price: will out-trump a PS3 at that price.
Undoubtedly, HD via Blu-Ray look V nice: but xvid and divx bit-torrent d/l's are ad-free and weeks/months ahead of scheduled broadcasted in Europe - and pmps wony be coming with blu-ray drives anytime soon... ^_^
I don't understand why they chose to rip off Nintendo--yet do it so badly. Now everyone will compare their shoddy motion-sensing implementation to Nintendo's Wiimote. They should have just left it out.
I wasn't even going to buy a Wii (/shudder), but this has inspired me to actually.
If Sony is trying to get on the Nintendo boat then that's where I want to sail.
The PSP was a bad experience for me, then the whole DRM thing...now this.
I wouldn't say they have ripped anyone off, but I will say they lack originality.
The only thing new they brought to the table was their "innovative" controller (how did he keep a straight face) and their live-like service.
How about something innovative Sony?
And that price is ugly. Face it people these are gaming systems and that's all we use them for.
Half of you guys crying about the $500 happily dished out $400 for an Xbox360 when the PS3 blows it away.
Check out how much a Blu-Ray drive goes for and then cry about how $500 is a rip-off.
Not to mention all the bashers who insisted the PS3 would be $800 to cover the cost of the blu-ray drive.
The people justifying the price point here seem to be assuming that any of us WANT a Blu-Ray player. And the whole "most powerful console" argument would have been more effective if the presentation had actually SHOWN OFF THE POWER OF THE HARDWARE, instead of a bunch of a mix of mostly tech demos and prerendered graphics.
$500 seems reasonable. But I can see the price dropping after a 1/2 a year or so, Sony isn't that dumb, they really do plan on making a large profit even if they have to lower the price.
Just some extra rambling but, what if Sony had the motion controls already developed before this? Obviously, they have to have had it in production because there are games already implementing its abilities. So there is a possibility that while Nintendo debuted their controller first, Sony may have already been working on their own without actually ripping Nintendo off. Possibility? I would say perhaps. But no matter what, nobody (and I mean NOBODY) has done more ripping off than Microsoft; and I think we can all agree on that one.
Prices in Dollars:
Jap 20gb:- $535 (with tax?)
USA 20gb:- $499 (without tax)
EUR 20gb:- $635 (with tax)
UK 20gb:- $650 (with tax, assumed pirce of 350)
Jap 60gb:- Unknown
USA 60gb:- $599 (without tax)
EUR 60gb:- $760 (with tax)
UK 60gb:- $780 (with tax, assumed price of 420)
Ive assumed the UK price by converting the euro price to GBP and then adding a little extra which is the standard used by every single multinational company.
As usual European and UK prices have a markup which is much greater than the rate of Tax.
XBOX 360 games are $90 in UK
UMD Movies are $38 in UK
sigh
Wii here i come
xe.com
499.00 EUR = 633.052 USD
599.00 EUR = 759.897 USD
499.00 USD = 393.332 EUR
599.00 USD = 472.171 EUR
499.00 EUR = 70,736.68 JPY
599.00 EUR = 84,925.84 JPY
499.00 USD = 55,758.86 JPY
599.00 USD = 66,932.98 JPY
in fairness to Sony: European countries do pay more 'Value Added TAX' than N.America or Japan...
i would not pay $700AUD for a 60gig video ipod, im afraid
You know, if it had been well priced, I probably would have given the PS3 a chance. No freaking way, now. By Nov 17th I'm willing to bet the 360 will have a nice price drop, their HD-DVD add-on will be out and reasonably priced, and there's always the Wii. I've had it with Sony's crap.
What has MS ripped off, making a game system? They were the first to put the hard drive in, first with the true live experience, their blade GUI, marketplace and GIANT console. SONY even stole that from them. Hey lets make a console that takes up all the space under the TV so that you can't fit another system, great idea!!! ;P
and theyre not using 1.8" HDD's in Playstations like they are in iPods - 2.5" / 3.5" cost a fair but less even to manufacturers
for a blu-ray player + major system like this one...you'll be paying less than it costs to make...the games are what you should be whining about...any news on their prices???
I am so exicited abt PS3. The price is high but you got a lot of feature, particularly blue-ray. $499 is not bad. Just imagine xbox360 with hd-dvd addon. How much will it be? Assuming $150 for hd-dvd drive, xbox360 will be $449 and $549. If $100, then will be $399 and $499. I doubt the addon will be below $100. So I think PS3 for $499 is a deal. I love the controller so much. Can't wait for it...Damn now is only May.
i told yall sony are money grabbing bastards i knew all along they sucked
500$ for what? the da*n graphics look the same as first gen 360 games... and not to mention when this launches we'll have 360's for half the price and second gen games for it already rolling out... lets see buy a ps3 or buy 10 xbox360 games (gen2)
as for the bluray... wow if i want to see hd movies that bad i'll buy the darn hddvd addon for 100$ or 150$ that they'll end up charging to get them out the door
for a company in such financial trouble lets see how long they last doing a 400$ cut on the console i mean thats basically the hit they are taking what are they hoping for a 10 to 1 adoption rate on games?
I can't say I'm exactly pissed about the controller. In all fairness, Nintendo did want it to be adopted as an industry standard. I just wanna hear Kenny's response if someone asks "Now where did you get the idea for the motion-sensitivity?"
actually aic007 i was just talking in general
33: dont expect a price drop, blueray components and there cell... and the fact they are already taking a 400$ hit per unit will mean a long stint at 500-600$
"What I don't understand is why so many of you knock Sony when people are willing to pay the same price on a VIDEO IPOD?"
Because i don't have to buy $50-$60 CDs to use my video iPod. Why do you spend so much on a car anyway? Comparisons aren't always the best to make in the tech world....
Sure its a rip off but they are going to be used completely differnently. Wii used for swinging swords, mini games and other stuff. PS3 used for turning in racing games and stuff like the warhawk demo. Personally I dont plan to see the feature added in many games because if you think about it there is really no good way to implement it. Either way im getting a PS3.
So in AUD (based on the the usual electronics markup we get) the PS3 should turn out to be $799/$999. Maybe $749/$899?
Still, much too much.
and Excuse me? I believe a certain console had to have enough ventilation space to operate without crashing. So what if it's big? If the Cell really is a processor of supercomputer proportions, hell, at least you dont have something as massive as Big Blue under your TV.
$600 is worth for the Blu-Ray player ability alone.
I hear ya Ozz, just love how Sony claimed to be the innovator and is copying everyone else. I'll prob buy 1 maybe 2 systems, for ebay of course :) I never used my PS2 or xbox/360 to watch dvd's so as far as bluray goes I'll buy a stand alone player if I really gotta have one but with over 500 dvd's I don't think I'm converting over just yet. I think that were going to be seeing streaming HD as the norm soon and get away from physical media so I can wait that out. Plus the price of production on BD media, blanks are $25 each, I wonder what games are gonna cost for this. Also what kinda loss is Sony taking on the system, gotta be a used honda or something close to it.
people miss the main lacking fact SONY LIED AGAIN, wheres the "more space than the 360" dont i recall a 100gb drive being promised standard with room for all those mass HD movies they were gonna have?... oh and wow game cacheing on the harddrive to elliviate the blurays load times (they are slow if u havent noticed) i wonder how they figured out to do that (xbox1?) oh and then theres the simple fact of how much space is that cacheing taking up i mean these are supposedly 25-50gb bluray discs with content that's being read... and a 20gb drive hmmm 2sec load times eh...
52) the price estimates at this price is between 400-500$ they are taking on each console
If Blu-Ray tanks, it could be a bloodbath for Sony. Few people are going to pay a premium over the 360 price if HD-DVD gains more traction. Conversely, however, if Blu-Ray does well it doesn't hurt MS as much as people can just save some bucks and opt not to buy the external drive.
Also, for those poor parents whose kids hit them up for a game machine for Christmas, I'm guessing they might find $500=$600 plus games a bit high of a price point. As a compromise, they might buy those kids 360s.
I hope Sony starts work on the PS4 tonight because PS3 is going to nosedive bigtime. It's not that you or I can afford one, its the masses that typically are a bit more financially strapped that drive console and game sales. And even for those who can afford $599, you aren't going to see one at $599 for quite sometime - I'd say March or April of next year at the earliest. When the parents can't find a PS3 or a Wiiii to put under the Christmas tree they certainly aren't going to be buying another PS2 helping Microsoft even further. Micosoft may even have taken a price hit or added the HD-DVD for the same price around Christmas time rolls around. And not only that, whats to say that dedicated Blue-Ray players won't be $299-$399 around Christmas - which certainly won't drive people to buy a PS3 for the blue-ray. Add that to very sup-par performance, which may improve a bit with later titles and Sony's big loss per console and I think this is the final nail on the coffin. Enjoy PS3 while it lasts is all I got to say.
Hmm, a 2x Blu-Ray Drive and then a hard drive to cache.... sounds like what a normal computer would do with just about anything. And xbox1's loading times were atrocious. I can live with 2-3 seconds. You saw GT HD. They were zippy.
OH SNAP Europe is gettin it in the Arse AGAIN
lol ya price is kinda important considering gas is almost 4$ a gallon LOL... i cud buy 125 gallons of gas for the price of that ps3...
BTW if we havent figured out yet... the ps3 will end up packaged just like the 360 buy bestbuy and the rest in 1000-2000$ packages at launch lol surrrreeeee i can see everyone buying that instead of the 360 and a pgr3 game or something for 400$ lol
my point wasnt that they cache... my point was that with the size of content on those discs and caching them to a 20 gig drive (that sony said was for all those wonderful hi-def videos that we all will want) that half the darn drive will be filled.... and BTW 2x blueray is slower than 12x dvd that the 360 has ;)
It's worth noting that there is more besides the larger hard drive that differentiates the $499 and $599 PS3's. Most notably, the $599 one is the only version that has HDMI and Wi-Fi included. So for the extra $100 you are paying for 40GB more storage, WiFi and HDMI.
Ozz, For me as far as overheating goes, my system never crashed. Even after 8hr gaming session and playing online and dl'ing stuff, no probs. I can barely get through 4-5 songs on guitar hero without my system locking up. and the ps2 has a lot more room to breath where it is under my tv. PS1/2 were notorious for dying, so I cant wait for the cell to melt and people start screaming that their system died.
Um, I personally am not looking at the built in blu-ray playing ability as that much of a perk. Throwing down cash in the middle of a format war of this scope isn't all that great...
LMAO my girlfriend just walked in and asked why i was looking at a toaster grill lol (i was looking at the ps3 picture sitting flat LOL)
The proof is in the pudding as they say and from what I have read so far, Sony did not wow anyone with what was shown. Granted alot hasbeen seen already but where are all the playable games if they have had dev kits out for a while? People still think alot is CGI and sony did nothing to prove it wasnt. GT will be great cause polyphony makes great games but like they said nothing mindblowing and looked like PG3. Lets not forget that PG3 was optimized in only 3 1/2 months. Lets see what the next level of 360 games looks like now that people are familiar with the final hardware. I can wait for a price drop to get a PS3, there really isn't that much thats going to be exclusive that will make me get one at lauch.
Why doesn't everybody see the big picture? If you buy the XBOX 360 "premium" bundle for $399, buy the wireless adapter for about another $100, and pay an additional (I'm guessing at least $100) to add HD-DVD, you are AT LEAST at the same price as the PS3 "premium" (which already has all the goodies installed). Pick your poison people!
I wonder about what Microsoft says. They talk alot of smack and pose many empty promises (not to say nobody else does either). Remember when they said they provided the fullest HD and how 1080p isn't worth it? Remember when they said they were gonna sell 3 million units? Remember when they said they were gonna ship Vista in 2005? Or 2006? or 2007? I feel that same talk coming from the Microsoft-ers again regarding this HD-DVD thing.
My question is, what happens to all the people with DVD drives?
They buy an external drive for $100-200. Ok, well that just made the price as high as the PS3.
Or what if they sell all new 360's with HD-DVD? What happens to the games? Creating two versions would be costly and wasteful. Cutting off the DVD version would cut off the current majority of owners from playing anything new.
This would be splitting Microsoft's userbase, and therefore making their efforts worthless. This is why I personally believe that they will not (or at least will not succeed) get the HD-DVD out on the 360 by any means. It's just too costly. The only way to do it is to have done it right- include it in the beginning. And if you didn't felt like waiting a year [like you should've] so your system would probably be better, you would be able to implement it right away. Like Sony.
Man the 360 is going to blow the PS3 up! By the time this POS comes out the 360 will be $300 for the premium! WTF Sony! There will be like 2 blu-ray movies out and wtf most people probably don't even have a high-def tv...all they care about is games!
http://img318.imageshack.us/img318/158/downgrade8rr.jpg
Just when I was thinking that they MIGHT not gimp the cheaper system, this comes along.
For the less tech-savvy, no HDMI out means that anyone with an HDTV is pretty much going to be forced to buy the $600 system in order to enjoy all that lovely blu-ray HD playback. Hoo boy.
I think that this price point will be sonys ultimate downfall. Nintendo's wii is the sleeper here. I never thought I'd say it but Microsoft and Sony have priced themselves away from the consumers. Nintendo is right on track with the price of Wii and the controller which has actually grown on me.
If Microsoft can deliver a redesigned xbox 360 with a 20 gig HD for 299.00 and get the price of new games back to the normal pricing of 49.99 they will bury sony this holiday season. I'd actually buy an xbox 360 which I never considered before. If Microsoft and Sony stick to their prices; the NINTENDO Wii will be the new family system here. In fact I've already made the decision to purchase the Wii if the 249.00 launch price is true, no questions at all. If Sony or Microsoft come in at 299 I can afford the second system, if they were all 249 i'd get all three of them.
Nintendo Wii is a definite; Congrats to Nintendo for pricing the unit affordably in this oil price gouging economy!
Peace

70: u realise that hddvd is backwards compatible to DVD hence games will always be on DVD12x's on the 360...
as for space space has never been a gaming issue on the 360 or xbox.. i mean 99% of the xbox1 games were what 800 megs on a 9gb disk? wowya really stretching those limits lol
and to think, i went through 3 psone original models, and am on my second ps2. i hate microsoft but sony is blowing it. hd-dvd players are $500 right now, blu-ray is $1500. so i guess if you are into blu-ray its worth it. but blu-ray is a rip-off. clearly stating that they are going to be the most expensive console, i expect a price drop announcement by microsoft now. that is the most expansive price hike for an extra $100. i can go get at least a 200gb hd for a $100 retail pretty much whenever. i loved sony, i am going to miss the rpg's :( i would never buy a a console from microsoft or from sony anywhere close to launch though. all those xbox dvd drives that died on xbox and the drive errors on ps2. Guess i will buy a Revolution (refuse to call it a Wii) and stick with my ps2, xbox, and ds.
One thing Sony didnt' mention that is in their official press release is that the $499 version is horribly crippled.
for $499 you get
NO HDMI
NO Memory Stick slot
NO SD card slot
NO CF slot
NO wifi
20GB HDD
the $599 version is the only one with wifi, flash card slots, bigger HDD, and most importantly HDMI.
Dont' believe me, the official press release is here: http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/060509ae.pdf
Sony screwed up big here. $500 is a lot to spend on a console, and you don't even get half of the good stuff in the PS3. To get HDMI you have to spend an extra $100. Sony screwed up badly.

"OKAY SO I CAN GET A 360 and A WII FOR THE PRICE OF A PS3 with one PS3 game????????? OMG forget PS3 M$ should just bundle 360 and Wii together for the same price!"

If somebody wanted to make a census of Sony haters in Engadget, I think that here's a good place to begin counting.
NINTENDO RIPPED OFF SONY
SEE BELOW:
http://sony.gamerfeed.com/gf/news/4815/
fanboys stop feaking out and check your facts first
no you get your facts straight.. the swinging your hands around kinda stuff wont be possible the the ps3 remote its missing certain functionality that the wiimote has... as for them stealing from nintentdo they all stole from logitech and microsoft they had pc versions of gyroscopics remotes back in 1998 on the market.. the fact is in gaming PEOPLE THAT PLAY GAMES ARE NORMALLY LAZY ... moving hands around rapidly to play a game is a workout who wants that we want to sit back and kill things!
i thought the ps3 was going to be region free? did they nix that? if not, why not just import one?
I want to know one thing... do you think that they gave enough hints that it will be expensive? Ken Kutaragi announced at E3 2005 that it will put a hole in your wallet... the R&D for that controller prolly began a while ago and they didn't rip off of Nintendo... SONY had motion dectection, while nintendo has full-blown 3d coordinate mapping. Nintendo is the most innovative this year... aside from the technical aspects all of these consoles will thrive as long as the games are entertaining, and not glistening sweat apps( like NBA 06 for 360). $600 bucks is nothing if you had started saving 2 dollars a day last year... you would have more than enough money for a ps3. I'm picking Nintendo as the big winner this E3... but sony did enough to sway thier audience.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but everyone needs to get off Nintendo's jock over the controller. Claiming the PS3 is "ripping off Nintendo's idea" is absurd. The controller looks nothing like the Nintendo controller.
You know what it does look like? The gamepads MS used to sell for the PC a few years ago. Those had the same motion features. That doesn't mean Sony is ripping them off either...it's just a logical enhancement to the controller in my opinion.
I was actually surprised MS hadn't implimented it in their own xbox controllers. I guess they couldn't see a practical application in a two hand controller and in a way I agree. It's a lot less intuitive than tilt will likely feel (and be used) in a one handed controller.
If you step back and get off your respective fanboy soapboxes for 2 minutes I don't see how anyone can rationalize this is an attempt at a "nintendo controller". I don't see any way that using the two controllers in gameplay will be considered similar.
Just my two cents.

Europe is getting right royally screwed, so I wonder why that works out given region-freeness? Parallel imports are gonna be huuuuuuuge.
Any word on Australian price? or do we go by Europe price and get screwwwwwwwwwed?
Also, does anyone remember what the original PlayStation's launch price was all those years ago?
hum...how heavy is 5kg~11 pound
is that like a average back pack?
and is this thing the biggest piece of hardware ever for a game console?
No wireless. Worse controller than a Wii. $500. Lame !

Anyone who thinks that the Big N were the first ones to think of motion sensing controllers, didn't see my dad trying to play video games 20 years ago.
well there goes the down payment on the house I've had my eye on...
ok..So the PS3 will be $500-$600 they're are still selling it at a loss..When the XBOX360 came out with a $400 price tag people said they weren't going 2 pay it but they did...
what happend to dual HDMI outputs? the cheapest PS3 console doesn't even have one!not to mention no WIFI also no CF/MS/SD SLOT
I'm not upset at the whole controller / price thing. I'm impressed with the price to tell you the truth but what bugs me is how the presentation went. It wasn't really good. I was expecting a lot of hype through the whole event but there was only one part that made it good. The third party previews. They were better then the first party which was awesome. I can't wait until a few hours from now to see what goes on with Nintendo's Wii.

You said exactly what I was thinking...
So who cares that things are getting more and more expensive... I remember when the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis cost nearly $200 for the system and $40~60 per game... You people probably complained as much about that price back then, too...
Oh, and for the record, everything is a rip off of everything else now-a-days... So stop trying to prove who ripped of who, and lets just settle with the fact that nothing is original anymore...
Well, I'm open about the fact I'm a 360 owner and I have been really pleased with it so far. I was keen to see what PS3 had to offer as I'd have probably ended up buying one. Now I'm not so sure. The whole 'two times as powerful' nonsense espouses last year seems to have been proven to be nonsense (like we always knew but sometimes you have to see to believe). If MS can show off some really good titles at their presentation today they might still be in the race to overtake Sony.
