Nintendo Wii to sell for $250?
Almost lost among the hubbub of Sony's keynote extravagance was a little forum-derived rumor about Nintendo's Wii. It claims to be based on an issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly with Zelda on the cover and a whole lot of Nintendo gems inside, including a purported $250 launch price. The tipster hasn't shown any scans of the magazine's actual content, but he did manage to get a picture of the magazine's cover up on the forum after work, so our legit-ness meter is looking pretty good. Along with the console price, and screenshots of Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk, Rayman and Red Steel, he mentions the Virtual Console gaming, Wii-remote tech, and some vaguely defined "ALWAYS online" functionality (the console is always hooked to the Internets, even when off). There's also a supposed built-in speaker in the controller (a DS-like mic seems more likely to us, but that's what he says). As we said, the rumor looks fairly solid, though we don't have long to find out, since Nintendo's keynote is kicking off early tomorrow. And being that we really don't have anything better to do, we'll be sure to liveblog it to pieces.

Nicely said Ethan!
Well whether the points have been expressed or not, I'm still going to state my strongest ones, because I think many good things about all systems but can still be a fan of one.
**Please Read My Article on the Nintendo WII Below (Click The Link), it will only take a wiii bit of your time, you never know you may change your opinion.**
http://www.mmofaces.com/forum/?action=view_topic&id=76&fid=26
I try to show some balance between system comparison don?t get thrown off just because I wrote this through the eyes of a Nintendo Fan, after all? I?m a Nintendo Fan.
Ok, well I think without a HDTV, you are already missing out on a lot of the great graphics for both Xbox 360/PS3, with WII you don?t loose anything with a normal television and can instead, enjoy the experience no matter were you take your light/tiny litter gaming system.
I think innovation is something that is very strong in Nintendo's new system, the greatest innovation in gaming since nes or virtual boy. Xbox 360 is basically offering you a little packaged computer gaming unit, powerful, beautiful, but yet a PC will still satisfy my needs.
The PS3 on the other hand helped make things interesting by adding a little something to every bit of their system, even try to make WII look like a gimmick and add 360 degree control in their new controllers. Although the combination of all those wiiii distractions made up for a big price that is just too much for me at launch date. I'm sure some can afford it, but the benefits of owning the system is strongly based on the graphics and performance of the PS3. It?s all great but it?s not necessary, even the downgraded version, too much money from my pocket (and possibly for the average consumer that Nintendo is trying to attract, all ages). Just because PS3 has a large selection of games and developers to make the system a great gaming experience, doesn?t mean everything else needs to be jacked up. I mean the games will pour out from Sony as usual, along with new original titles that neither Xbox nor WII will be able to compare. Although, I still believe the WII has PS3 beat in the software department, and this is why I think that....
The Nintendo WII has a gaming library from the past 20 years that will be available with a majority of exclusive games, yes in way there are more games for play on the WII now than Sony will probably be ever able to match. Although these games maybe classics or not so new experiences, a new generation of gamers will be able to experience something that they could not without this system. It?s like owning every Nintendo system, plus you don?t have to get rid of your gamecube games, you can still beat those unfinished titles or relive those gaming memories from your favorite cube games.
Now the Xbox 360 has some great exclusives as well, and will have many great titles, but Sony's ultimate list will still be more impressive than Nintendo?s and Microsoft?s, at least that?s what I do believe. Although with Nintendo?s Innovation and great exclusive lineup, the PS3 will have to fight for attention still as they are offering the same experience except with a fancier wrapper and more detailed experience. Great graphics , sounds, and overall detailed experiences are definitely amazing, so is the Xbox 360?s, but nothing new. A truly new, next generation step in gaming has to come from a whole new look and feel in how you play a game, by still giving the players the experience of the world visually of games, but finding new ways to play it. I believe this is the Nintendo WII, and this why I chose it over PS3, and yes even if the option was available, Xbox 360.
When It comes down to it, every fan will buy their system, everyone will enjoy it too, there is no bad system. In my eyes, great games will be presented by all kinds of developers for every system; you just have to ask yourself what you are really looking for and if you are missing anything that you might have wanted more in purchasing a different system. The plus side of the WII is that it is going to be the cheapest out there, something that more people can afford to play, and you may be getting the best experience. Just don?t screw yourself out of a great experience, give every system a try and ask yourself which console gave you the best experience.
That?s all from me,
-PB DESTINY
P.S. Yes, I do realize I overuse the play on words with the word Wiiii, deal with it.
@21
Dude are u talkin through your arse ? Did u even read what u blurted out ? "The battle is between the PS3 and the Wii. Xbox 360 is going to come in third this time around. (Hey, somebody has to.)"
Man how stupid is that.... MS has and is selling what is the most incredible console on the market and u're talking about it as coming in the 3rd place ? Sony doesnt even HAVE a final console yet. They are desperatly trying to hint that they are but they havent even shipped yet 1 friggin console. Changing the controler at the last moment just to be able to SHOW something which is not even original as it is not even working right... cmon PS3 should have been on 4th place if there eve was one
I grew up with video games, i.e. the NES, SNES and N64, all of which I still have. These were great systems with fun games.
I lost any interest in video games as a moved on to college, as the games on PS2 and Xbox just seemed too time-intensive for me to pick up and enjoy. I don't want to spend a few hours figuring out how to play a game, I want to pick it up and play it, and have fun right off the bat. I liked certain games on gamecube because they look fun, but i didnt have the time or money to get involved.
My favorite game is Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for N64, because the gameplay is unmatched. Anyone with any sort of desire to play games, and not some corporate bias, will absolutely love that game.
All of that being said, Wii has re-captured my interest in gaming. I am excited to see what it can do, and maybe even shell out around 2 benjamins for it. I could care less about the xbox 360 or ps3. I have more important things to do then sit around and play games all day. I could care less about those features. How many of those features, or 'superior graphics,' for that matter, will make my games more FUN? Not many. Go nintendo, and im not a fanboy, just a normal person averse to getting that sick feeling in my stomach when i overpaid for something that i dont get as much enjoyment out of as i should.
i totally agree with u potato....NINTENDO ALL THE WAY
This is for 7of7....you said, quote on quote,
"I wish they'd just stick to good old gaming like the PS3 and Xbox have done."
Well nintendo was the one that revitalized gaming in 1987, before Sony Plastation, and Microsoft Xbox was even a sparkle in someones eye.
good point...nintendo is what made gamin what it is today so mabey there just out to revolutionize it again and in the long run what their doing now might become...the same ol thing
So not that this really comes as a surprise to anyone, but Rockstar has finally announced that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories will be the next GTA game for the PSP. And, continuing their usual release practices, the game will hit stores this October. Vice City Stories will be developed by the guys behind last year's Liberty City Stories, and will be set in Tommy Vercetti's hood, though details beyond that are scarce. Will this game stick with the '80s time period, and who will play the leading role? Will this be the fist GTA with a woman at the helm? Ladies can beat up hookers just as good the next guy!
I'm excited ;),

I think that the revolution [WII] is a fun consol considering its price is only $250. I am going to get one but after I get my PS3!!! I think that the revolution has some "on-topic" games that work great with the consoles remote and sensors. I am a little dissapointed that it is not HD because we have a 71" I was dying to play it on but I guess the PS3 will fill its potential and the WII's too...which it probably will!!! I do like the remote with the game speaker in it so as you play you hear it in surround sound and your hear it from the controller (if you have surround sound). Either way it should still look great with the Big screen and Nintendo {or pelican or another on brand} will most likly put out an after market HD cord like MONSTER CABLE did with Xbox. I am deffinantly gonna buy a Revolution tho!!!
"Almost lost among the hubbub of Sony's keynote extravagance..."
I had no idea that Sony's keynote was extravagent. From what I saw it was plain out boring. I had to skip through and watch the some what interesting parts instead of sitting through the whole conference. Sony showed the same old stuff we've been seeing since PSX and it is not going to change. Unless Sony does something absolutly new and astounding that will just surprise everyone, then PS3 will be just like PS2 with better graphics and a much larger price tag.
Built in speaker in the controler? Would this be for the for person to person communication?
I agree with number with comment number 8. First, Buy an xbox 360. the PS3 offered nothing more but a blue ray disc drive/ blue ray DVD player. However, at E3, it showed none to minimal better graphics than the 360. The 360 offer probably even more with it's really nice xbox live, cool dashboard, rumble pack (not that i really ever cared for the rumble pack, but i can't believe sony gave up the rumble pack, the PS3 has no rumble pack) and decent pricing. If you two get two of the new consoles, get the wii and the 360 for different kind of games. Plus, the wii is supposed to be really cheap. My summary, sony is really ripping you off!
Well unlike microsoft and sony, Nintendo has been wise enough to not listen to the people. Cause honestly people don't know what they really want. ANd in the end we have is a zillion buttons on a gamepad, pretty graphics, and innovation is declining. Nintendo is innovating and every true nintendo fan knows the quality and polish they put
into their products.
I can't wait to support them in their new system, i'd rather have fun than be vain about gaming.
Hmm, why buy an Xbox 360 first? I guess I would buy it second but it doesnt mean its not impressive. If it wasnt for their developer support and game lineup, nothing else would matter. Its just the graphics arent as great without HDTV, which I know through statistics only 47% of xbox 360 owners have. So in my opinion graphics is out of the question, its all the extras that come with that make it a media center more than a straight out "gaming console". If you want a media center (dvd, music, games, internet, online gameplay, and video games) than get an xbox 360 for sure. If you want to buy a system for the most fun and new experience gaming, get a Wii. Just because 360 has Xbox Live doesnt mean its the master of multiplayer gameplay, look at Wii, you wont get an experience like that anywhere else when playing with other people on one game. Also, dont forget that Nintendo has made the Wii and the games coming out for it more suitable for online gaming, its a mistake nintendo learned from their last console (gamecube had almost no online titles).
I'm not a huge die hard gamer like I was back in my teens but at 23 I get a huge kick out of multiplayer games where you can beat your friends and talk trash and laugh for hours. I love mario kart and mario party the most for their straight up fun and group experience. Graphics are important and serious games are fun but I can't wait to see how the wii revolutionizes an already fun genre of party games. Once mario kart and mario party are developed for wii the possibilities are endless for the new remote. I think the other new systems look incredible and I hope some of my friends buy them so I can play, however I am not impressed enough to pay the steap price. I can convince the wife to let me get the wii cause she will love the old classics from nes.
When I can get a brand new PC (with a decent video card and LCD monitor) for less than a console, I think I'm out. The $499 version of the PS3 sounds worthless and $600 is just too much for something that has a decent chance of not being around in 2 years...especially if Blu-ray doesn't make it. I think Wii is going to grab a much larger chunk of the younger gamers and new gamers, representing the market of the future.
Sony: Media Freaks
Microsoft: Money Geeks
Nintendo: Innovative Japs!
Sony is all about the media, whether it's Blu-ray, UMD, etc...they have allways been about the media. Some of has been a bit of a flop, like Mini-Disk. UMD is almost a flop because ONLY the PSP can play it (to my knowledge).
Microsoft is all about the money! Why else do the charge like, $300 at the release of Windows...it's to get money!
- That's why I went Linux! (ubuntu)
Nintendo is all about the Game! All about the experience, All about the Consumer, ALL ABOUT INNOVATION!
--- They revived the video game market. (with the 10NES Lockout chip + "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality")
--- They Created the Portable Gaming market.
--- They created you beloved Rumble feature...
--- They brought in L+R buttons, D-Pad, 4-(A/B/X/Y) buttons, Start + Select buttons.
--- They still rule, and will always be on top.
--- And with Wii, they brought Motion to consumer,
--- Remember Virtual Boy: Nintendo is all about experience, 3-D, and with Wii and the motion sensing tech. they are ever so close to their virtual reality dreams!!
Nintendo Wii is for me...
I will get one on the day it comes to New Zealand!!!(where I live)
Im also getting a nintedo wii im sorry sony but 500 dollars for a gaming system. thats not that impressive . even if they have better graphics is still dont excused the fact that the ps3 games are corny and lame other then grand theft auto. all sony has is a ton of thirp party games that you could find on any of the systems . nintendo is really gonna take over the number one spot its cheaper the controler is way cool the games are better then the rest . the las generation i had a ps2 . but this generation im going back to the company thats introduced me to this gaming world nintendo
Nintendo wii is selling at a cheaper price but also MS and sony are undercutting the price of their consoles. It's estimated that while 360 and ps3 sell at a loss of maybe €100 each the wii is selling at a proffit of about €20 a piece. Not a whole lot but considering that they've sold just under 45 million of them worldwide their's a nice tidy proffit to be had for nintendo before the games are even thought about.

I think that the wii will be the best selling sistem of the next year.ps3 is way too expensive, and x360 is out of the question.I allso like the fact that it will be able to play gc games so I can allways play re4.
I will go for nintendo's next console the wii
I think Wii could be on to something. With all the worry nowadays about games being too violent and not being able to control what kids are watching. They could seriously position themselves as a console that only plays fun nonviolent games.
What kid is going to serious refuse any free gaming console from their parents at Christmas? It could be genius if they market it right.
i read somewhere that nintendo is going to slash prices. wii console with sports package comes in just $199
check this news
http://nintendocontroller.com/rumor-or-truth-wii-price-drop-first-week-of-october-goes-down-to-199/
Sony supported beta tape, and where is that now
Personally, I feel that the best console we are going to see this go around will be the Playstation 3. Sure, it has it's faults and perhaps the 360 and the Wii don't have as many of them. However, there is one important fact that all you "Playstation 3 Bashers" are forgeting. It's SONY for god sakes. Pay attention idiots. They are one of the largest franchises EVER in ANYTHING. I be your a freakin janitor at the local DMV or something, so what right do you have to critisize them. Besides it's not like the 360 or the Wii are going to have any decent games. (well not many) If your a true gamer then you would know that Sony also has Square Enix behind them. It's the console for all the RPG and awesome hardcore games to be. Unless your another "Halo dork" or a fan of "grand theft auto" (thats for our MS fans) and what about the Wii? Zelda=gay.
There is a certain point to which all console's graphics will reach a peak, and will not be able to get any better, and that point, what's left? Well, Nintendo answers this question with this great looking (and fairly cheap compared to competetion) console. Interactivity will help gamers feel more physically involved, it will test there wits better then a couple of buttons on a pad.
I totally think that people saying that Nintendo is for younger children need to go stick their face in mud.
In current days, it's like, "The game is fun, and I think I'll have a great time playing it, but wait! it's run by Nintendo, which is for babies and isn't cool anymore, so I'm not going to play it."
Don't go by brand names.
Don't go by what you think is "stupid and for babies."
If you have a fun time playing the game, then PLAY THE FREAKING GAME, and don't be ashamed of it. I myself still enjoy playing Pokemon every now and then, even though it's old and people nowadays think it's "gay and stupid."
GROW UP. IT'S A GAME, AND JUST BECAUSE IT'S NOT POPULAR ANYMORE, DOESN'T MEAN IT'S NOT A FUN GAME!
I personally am DEFINITELY going to buy the Wii, because from what I've seen, there will be some FUN games on it. Just because it's not riddled with violence and blood doesn't mean it's not a fun game.
And no, I'm totally not against games riddled with blood and violence, but I just think that people should see PAST the E/T-Rating, and play what you think is fun.
And, for an innovative, revolutionary console, I think a starting price of $250 is totally okay, considering PS3, which is no big whoop-dee-doo is going to be upward from $500.
Also, Zelda=Classic, all other RPG's use weapons, Zelda uses tools, and no XP system=no grinding. And just so you know, using the word 'Gay' to describe things you don't like makes you sound stupid and low brow.
OK...let me just say one thing...
The Nintendo Wii actually lets you move your ass around, giving you physical activity and enjoying the game at the same time.
i have played nintendo ever since i was a child. my brother got his first nintendo 64 when he was about 8. i would always watch him play zelda ocorina of time. i loved that game. i will always think nintendo is the greatest gaming company. i never really cared about how good or bad the graphics where. i was more excited about the great storys they would tell in the games. the games weren't just about football and and skateboarding, there was more to it. i have nothing against sony and microsoft, its just quite frankly nintendo rocks my sox. they are always thinking about family. with their games and their prices.
wtf? why u dissin on the wii so much it has kick @$$ motion censer GREAT FOR FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS! =D also ps3 has blueray and blue ray dvd players cost 1,000 and 360 im srry i don't like at all to me they came out with it to early and dosen't have great stuff
I think the wii is pretty innovative. ON wii u get up and start movin instead of just sittin there yull get up and do sumthin. I no sum r sayin well u dot Dance dance revoultion and guitar hero but those r only a few games. Wii will have plenty. I love in madden that you can throw a pass with actual arm movements and others(and that always online feature im hearin bout). Now you have to admit the 250 price is kinda shabby but i think its worth it
xbox 360 isnt much different than xbox, and ps3 isnt much differnt than ps2, so you can just buy the cheaper originals and not miss out on too much. The nintendo wii is completely different from any other gaming console and nearly every nintendo game can be played on the wii. Also the xbox 360 and ps3 are way more expensive than the wii. The people who say that 360 or ps3 are better need to think about what they're saying. My guess is that they only like it because it's not anything new, the same old stuff they come out with every year, so they know it and are brainwashed to like it.
