Vosonic's VP8360
It's certainly nothing we've never seen in the past manufactured a variety of other ways by other companies, but Vosonic's got a new one due, the VP8360. It uses a 2.5-inch laptop drive, which means more storage (up to 120GB as of right now), but it also means more space and juice consumed by the device, which supports MP3, WMA, AAC, MOV, MPEG-4. Still, there isn't really an abundance of media reading photo banks out, and this one will take most anything you can throw at it (CF, SD, Memory Stick) and play some Tetris while you're waiting for your files to transfer.[Via Josh B and DAPreview]

120 GB, Its really huge. So guys we can go for nonstop fun. Only worry is the price of this gadget.
Hi, I'm in NZ and just purchased one of these 160gb gadgets for NZ$750.00 and its worth every penny. I started out trying to downsize my tapes in the car. I purchased a PSP with an 8gb card thinking I'll be able to store all my music and Dvds + have the gaming as a bonus. But as I'm a real music enthusiast 8gb for 2 music dvds at NZ$120-180 per card depending on the deal would get pretty expensive. My laptop only has 80gb of hard drive and I was looking to purchase an external hard drive anyway - this killed 2 birds with one stone. Music DVDs take avg of 4gb at origonal video quality.
I needed something portable - can't go with out my music. I bought a 12 v 400w inverter to feed my bose portable speaker - connected it to my vosonic for camping and wow - what a combination. Even when not on holiday the volume is still quite audible to listen to without headphones if it is on me in town. I even bought a din/rca converter to hook up to my old stereo through the aux port and it sounded great through my stereo.
I'm just looking now to see about whether it has a MPEG 2 format. My manual says it only takes MPEG 1&4 but other sites says its compat with MPEG2 as well. We're converting my old PC to a TV multimedia and most of the TV cards/tuners specify recording in MPEG 2. Would be great if I could record my music programs to PC Multi media HdDr and drag and drop them onto the Vosonic without converting them to MPEG4.
Hope this helps, Cheers Heather
That makes my Gmini 400 look like a kids toy. Price seems to be my only hesitation. Hope they sell it without a hard drive.

3 hours video=playback with a 120gb drive? All i need now is to be able to buy this in Australia :D
You can buy this in Australia. Jaldigital.com.au sells it. You can buy it with or without a HDD and the price is similar to the Epson P2000 family, Jobo Gigas, or a big iPod.
Here are my questions:
-Can you upgrade the 2.5 HD yourself without voiding the warranty?
-what is the viewing angle of it?
-How much does it weigh?
I currently have an AV 500 which rocks, but the use of 1.8" HDs limits my capacity, and you can't open them without void their warranties.

I don't think you can change or upgrade the 2.5 HD by yourself in the first period of Warranty time, while if it is out of warranty time, yes, of cos, you can change. With that size of 120GB in it, i think it is more than enough for a time-being, if you try convert a file or compress the file, it will only take up storage not more then 300MB~500MB per movie.
Agreed.
also, does anyone know of how it's recording setup works?
the AV500 comes with a breakout box which REQUIRES you to be pluged into a wall socket for power, sucks.
I know that there are accessories I can buy for it, but at 400 bucks, the AV 500 SHOULD come with everything!
You can upgrade the HDD. There's a section in the manual on how to do it. You can buy it without a HDD and install your own. This is one of the reasons why it's such a cool device. Vosonic wants us to play with it and use it to our liking.
I've been considering the AV500 for awhile now. Perhaps I consider this instead? It's definitely tempting. Hmmmm..
Saw it here for $299 but oddly if you pick it from link on the right, the price changes. The $299 price though sticks if you place it in cart. Def worth that price!

Has anyone more comments on this device have used it more intensively since May 2006
I have the vp8360 and I regret not spending more and getting the Epson. I cannot access my photos, I cannot copy or transfer them, so as a pro photographer this is a nightmare.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
I really impressed this product it's great but I experience a very bad manner of sales and after sales service of the import agency in Thailand.
I buyed today a Vosonic like device (Magnex DJ-Book 2000) without HD and installed on it an old Hitachi 20Gb HD. I think is the same unit with only a different name. It work fine on Audio and Video, also Photo backup is OK; only the FM radio receiver do not seems to work: It scan the band but I can't hear any station. You may see it at
