Mitsubishi's new 21-inch RDT212H monitor for Japan
Mitsubishi has just announced a new 21.3-inch flat panel monitor for the Japanese market, and even though it offers two DVI ports and a UXGA resolution of 1,600 x 1,200, we're not sure how many folks will be willing to part with close to ¥200,000 (about $1,775 US) to have this model on their desks. The RDT212H, in silver or black, does offer a pretty nice 1000:1 contrast ratio, but the 16-millisecond response time won't impress any gamers, and the 300cd/m2 brightness is nothing special, so we're struggling to discover what those hundreds of thousands of yen are really buying you. We'll have to wait a few weeks to find out, though, as that's when this LCD is scheduled to hit stores -- stay tuned to Engadget Japan for the latest.[Via Impress]

things just get more and more expensive!
you get something new, the newer always kicks new's butt! and every next generation of everything is a bit more expensive.
is there a point, where we'll just be content?
my guess is the answer is :no

Especially when you think that some 15 inch displays actually give you 1920 x 1200...

I thought if more manufacturers would make bigger monitors (19"+) then the prices would go down?

Are you crazy? Are you not familiar w/ electronics @ all...things get better n' better every year, and they get cheaper and cheaper as well. Compared the pioneer pro-1130 5500, with the pro 1120 last year 8000, and the pro-1110 from year before 10,000. The 1130, surprisingly is a much better tv, for about half the cost compared to the 1110. (50" elite plasmas, look at pentium chips as an easier comparison if needed...)

"things just get more and more expensive!"
You've clearly not been paying attention to the prices for large flat panels over the last five years.
"you get something new, the newer always kicks new's butt! and every next generation of everything is a bit more expensive."
Pass what you're smokin'. $500 will buy you more computing power today than $50,000 would have bought you ten years ago.
"is there a point, where we'll just be content?"
That's up to you. I'll make my own decisions, and you mind your own damn business.
"my guess is the answer is :no"
Speak for yourself.

Which part?
The 1920x1200 WUXGA display on my 15.4" laptop has
2304000 pixels
The 1600x1200 UXGA display on this 21" has
1920000 pixels
and the pixels are larger on the 21". And it has an analog to digital converter on board in addition to the two DVI inputs I assume, something the laptop does not. And more backlighting.
Granted 21" LCDs have been over $1000 USD for a long time, but have come down recently.. and this adds a whopping .3" which I can't imagine almost doubling the price...

There is nothing good about this 21 inch monitor at all. Anyone wanting a big monitor should obviously get a 23-24in 1920x1200 like this 24in dell, which is less than half the price ($759.20).
