I just adore the Sidekicks. Bought the first Sidekick the first day it was released. Upgraded to the color Sidekick and Sidekick 2. I'm addicted to it. Mac-like in its ease of use. Affordable (the device costs far less than most smartphones, and its only $20 a month for unlimited data minutes). Great keyboard. Web browser with javascript, pop and push email, AIM, Yahoo Instant Messenger, camera, speaker phone, networkable games, etc, etc. It's the internet in my pants, available at all times.

Yeah, I dunno. I'm not that impressed. I bought a Sidekick 1 the first week it was for sale (Day 4, to be exact - they were sold out by the time I got there on Day 1, so I had to wait for the second shipment of phones). I also upgraded to Sidekick 2, but was much slower to adopt. I figured, heck, this one still works. It wasn't until the software update which added massive functionality that I finally made the switch. This time around, it'll be the same. In terms of appearance, who cares? As long as the SK2 keeps working, I'll keep using it. When the SK3 does something remarkably better than it's ancestor, then I'll upgrade. Not before.

But hey, that's just me.

Sidekick? Nah, I would rather have a smartphone that does more than what this little gadget does. Nothing personal against the Sidekick Series, I love the little buggers, but they're just not quite up to par with the other smartphones. I think I'll just wait it out a little bit for my Treo 700p, which I only have to pay $15 a month for unlimited data.

Well, T-Mobile seems to be promoting their SK2s with a $100 discount. Maybe trying to get rid of them before releasing the SK3s?

Then again, the SK3 could just be an urban legend... like Sasquatch, or Vista, or T-Mobile getting a cool phone before eveyone else.

i think it's unfair also to compare it to a smart phone. sidekick does what it does well. i had a sidekick 2. loved it until i accidently crushed the screen. some problems with the reception though to be honest.

Another piece of crap that t-mobile decides to pick up. Why not pick up a treo instead. T-Mobile was the only carrier that did not pick up the 650. What a shame. The Treo 700p is no match for this junk!!!

im just as confused about the fuss here as i was with the 700p.. can someone explain to me what's so remarkable about this phone? or even just the difference between sk2 and sk3?

the appeal here is that it's an affordable phone with a keyboard, right?

the only plus ive heard so far is 'unlimited data for 20', but this is an option t-mobile offers on ALL their phones - i have that plan for my w800i, yes it's great to have "the internet in your pants", only half the size and wieght.

i'm not trying to rip on the phone or anything, I'm just curious about what's the big deal. there's gotta be something im missing here

The industry I'm in, we need AOL, i have the ppc-6700, have had the Treo 650 and also have the Blackberry 7230 (for reasons of having a # that not everyone in the world has access to ((my # is listed in industry trades!)), I think the sidekick does what it's meant to do as far as e-mail & instant messaging, the phone is meant as an added bonus to me... The TREO 700p, to me, is a pointless upgrade, I'd rather wait out for the TREO 700w (for SPRINT) anyway!!!

the sk line of devices isnt meant to compete directly with 'smartphones(i.e treo palm win5). it does have sum smartphone functions(full html web browsing; push and pull-down email) but its more of a phone in a "smartphone" body... but better(imho). i would compare the sk line to apple in function, style, user-friendly, and the cool factor.

the difference between the sk2 and sk3 that have been confirmed(danger, sharp, and tmobile are trying to be as tight lipped as possible) are upgraded to a 1.3 megapixel camera, edge high speed connectivity, bluetooth and minisd slot. rumors are saying it will have a mp3 player and possibly video, an edition with UMA connectivity and wifi. MSN IM should be apart of the new OS or an available download.

There are some real ultimate jackasses posting here! WOW GREAT FANTASTIC!

The only other PS that compares with the Danger OS on simplicity is Symbian. Not to mention it works.

The problem with other smartphone OS's is the hardware they run on have lousy egronomics. Not to mention they only run swiftly enough with a friggin desktop CPU for christ sake.

I like the SK3, they are well built and modestly price phones that are made to do very simple tasks. Like a watered down smart phone, the only possible issue I see so far is what does it do more than the SK2 and is it worth that price compared to other smartphones out there.

I think last time I heard, T-Mobile does not do $20 data plans on new customers with SK2s? A few people I heard couldn't get it, its $30 now, or am I wrong?
