Sling updates SlingPlayer software
Normally software updates for our devices go unmentioned by the Engadget team, but Sling's new version (1.1.0.153) of their SlingPlayer software commands some attention for its new features, such as doubled resolution for local streaming (640 x 240), 16:9 support, favorites bars, skins and interface tweaks, and expanded European PAL and DVB-T support. Enjoy, SlingBoxers.[Via Zatz Not Funny]

Guys just ignore Steven and ping the folks at Sling. There is one in the works, same for Sony's Location Free TV. Clearly these folks know the audience is important.

I installed this and it works fine with my US NTSC Slingbox.
Garrett @ May 27th 2006 1:28AM
You can install the software fine, but you cannot upgrade the firmware. UK only, no US.

16:9 support but no HDTV support... Purpose?
Grant W Laird Jr @ May 27th 2006 10:27PM
Why bother? it doesn't support closed captioning.
Aaron @ May 28th 2006 11:57AM
I, like #2 and #4, do not care.
PCs can do more than Macs. If you disagree, you're wrong.
Granted, this is slowly beginning to change as you can now install Windows on an Intel Mac, but they still do not make good home computers. Like #8 said, why would you buy a proprietary machine that won't allow you to do whatever you want?
Gregory Pierce @ May 28th 2006 3:07PM
#12, you might want to add some substance to your claim because I believe outside of some truly contrived scenarios - you'll have a hard time coming up with something that a Mac user wouldn't be able to do that a WIndows user can do.

Why do people think that we'll be able to stream HDTV so soon? Jesus - we can't even RECORD/ARCHIVE all HDTV channels. The ability to stream is 99% a bandwidth issue. Placecasting (streamcasting) within a home network should not be a problem if hardwired. Wireless solutions do not have the capacity to provide completely seemless HDTV streaming. As for uploading HDTV streams - won't happen for a long time. Most HDTV streams are 10-25 Mbit/s. Most people using cable can DL up to 6Mbits and upload 1-2 Mbits. Get real.
Slingplayer has just provided us with a decent upgrade.

Don't forget you can customize your PC Slingplayer Skin.
There is a new tutorial out now.

mac sucks, a couple people at my school has them and they cant even print from their own computers. they cant use ANY of the software, cant hook-up to the projecters. they cant do pretty much anything that is required for the school. i came pretty close to getting a mac when i got my laptop. THANK GOD i didnt, would have been a huge hassle, after seeing the crap these girls have gone through i will never buy one. besides all that they dont play all the games i want to play. really dont see all the hype about mac.
