Westinghouse drops 47-inch 1080p LCD
It's not quite as sexy as that 56-inch 3840 x 2160 LCD they were showing at CES this year, but Westinghouse's new LVM-47w1 47-inch 1080p LCD should make many a World Cup fan or budget home theater enthusiast very happy this summer. The display has a whole bunch of inputs: HDMI, two DVI w/HDCP, VGA and dual component, and features a 6.5ms refresh rate and 1200:1 contrast ration. Apparently the Westinghouse backlighting isn't stellar, so you might be sacrificing a bit of color, but you really can't beat the $3,000 price tag. No word on when this will be dropping, but we sure wouldn't mind it before Friday's kickoff.

I bought my son a monitor for his computer one year ago, the monitor is no longer working, I'm upset that I took a chance with westinghouse products and it didn" last a year, where can I send it back to see if westinghouse can look at it. I'm a retired firstSgt of Marines, I'm on a fixed income, I try to always buy american, its things like this that makes you want to buy from non american
Dave, you old Wpns Co. 3/3 Devildog! Howgozit? (Dave Pittelkow)
Nothing new here,. This like all the other Westinghouse Digital products will defenitely be another Best Buy and J&R Computer World exclusive.
So what's the point of getting excited about a $3,000 47" LCD that claims to be 1080p with only one HDMI and 2 HDCP DVIs with questionable quality?
I heard and read more complaints for Westinghouse Digital products than praises. Half of thouse complaints are for the 42" 1080p LCD alone.
I have the LVM-37w1 and find it to be an excellent unit in design and performance. I use it primarily for a computer monitor at 1920x1080 resolution. I look forward to reviews of the 47 inch model in terms of use as a home theater display.
I too have the 37" Westy, and I must say that I've been very happy with its performance. It looks great when pumped with HDTV television content through its component inputs. The colors are very natural. I primarily use it as a computer monitor as well, and it makes an excellent HTPC display. I can't wait to see the reviews for the 47". If it's the same as the 37" with just 10" more diagonal real estate, I'm getting in line for one.
I own the LVM-42w2 and it rocks. But don't take my word for it, check out the reviews at avsforum.com and audioholics.com ... better yet, go see for yourself. You won't find a brighter, sharper picture in the same price range. The remote sucks, but I bought a $20 learning remote that controls everything and saved the Westy remote for backup.
i have been using the westy lvm47w1 for almost 2 years now with my htpc and have been very pleased. since it is so light i was able to hang it on a swinging vesa arm from the wall at an optimal distance on a single stud. using the dvi was no prob for me since i am using an output from my pc anyway. i have the hdmi on the floor there so i can plug in the ps3 if i want (ps3 is often on the road) honestly there's not a whole lot else i need to plug in. sometimes i plug my wii into the component. (it's often a guest machine as well) i have the backlight turned down as far as it will go. sometimes during the day i will turn the backlight back up 10%. i have had zero issues with this display. no locked on pixels or anything. i wish i could get another one for as cheap as i got this one! it's hard to find another display this size with the vesa style bracketing
I have recently purchased a Westinghouse 47" and the backlighting is very uneven and it has very noticible vertical banding. I had returned the 42" 1080p because it had tons of problems so I probably should have stopped there. I'm going to return this 47" and it give it one more shot but after that if it still has the vertical banding issue which I find unacceptable I'll move onto another company even though it will cost me alot more money.
