FCC smiles upon Samsung SGH-D900, world's thinnest slider
If the true measure of a company was the thickness of its products, Samsung would have a lock on the title. Besides the "world's thinnest phone" -- the SGH-X820 that you can virtually hide by turning it on its side -- our South Korean friends are rocking the "world's thinnest slider" as well in the SGH-D900. Apparently, the FCC is cool with that, as they've just given the thumbs-up for the D900 stateside. The phone manages to pack in some reasonable specs despite its size, bringing a QVGA display, 3.13 megapixel camera, A2DP, 80MB flash, and MicroSD expansion to the table. Most importantly for our US readers, this is a quad-band EDGE phone, meaning there might be some actual weight to the FCC grant for a change of pace.

I'd like to see that side-by-side with my SGH-T809... I'm not sure how they could make it much thinner without it being flimsy.
Lookin pretty good. Kinda hard to grasp how thin it is without holding it in person though.
nice would this be cingular if released im still waitin for the razr sldr havent heard anything on the US launch yet so this may work
Wow... 3 megapixel camera in THAT? The screen's also pretty big compared to the phone... I think I'll be checking this out if Verizon sells it. Does it play MP3's?
Zille, this is obviously a GSM phone since it mentions that the phone is quadband and supports EDGE. Verizon will never get it since they use a CDMA network.
i have the t809, and it plays mp3's so i would assume this one does as well. i would also have to agree it does not look all that much slimmer than my t809 from the side. i love the t809 so i would guess this one is a pretty solid phone as well.

That's a review of it.
This is called the D870 in Europe.
Too bad that thing is a Samsung. I just returned a 509 back to Tmobile, despite getting it for only $25 (being a 10 year customer has its perks). Samsungs have terrible GUIs, and are just awful for things like tethering. Worse, the reception and battery were a lot worse than my old, beat up SE T610.
Having played with this phone at the CTIA conference recently in Vegas, to me it was the premire product at the Samsung booth. First, it really is thin, but it's very confortable to use. The camera is out of this world; and in my opinion, is the first legitimate desposable replcement that you can walk around with happily in your pocket. You can see tons of pics of the phone here: http://www.mobile-review.com/exhibition/cebit2006-samsung-en.shtml
The OS on the phone is all new, but all and all, I'd consider this to be the phone i'm most looking forward to in the 4th quarter of the year, because to really get some idea of just how sweet this phone is, you're going to have to play with it; you wont be disappointed.
i can't wait, any idea when this will hit the markets?
finally something that could rape that POS razr. Thumbs up to samsung
this is a very sexy phone how much is it ?
I really want this phone.. i'm going to have it imported [or atleast I plan to within the week] but have no idea as to how much it is going to cost me here in the U.S. The people i'm gonna buy it from say they can "unlock it" for me and all so i'm pretty psyched. So does anyone have a rough estimate? I'm guessing around 300.00 dollars.. plus the microSD card. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

It's called the D900 in the UK. Got mine today, absolutely brilliant phone, a lot more sturdy than it looks. Ask me questions about it if you want, and yes, it does play MP3s. It's packaged with some posh looking Samsung headphones to top things off.
It's £349.99 (roughly $575? here in the UK at the moment, so it'll be expensive to import.
does anyone know if the lcd screen on this phone is scratch resistant?? The samsung site does not mention it. what a waste if it's not.
i wonder where can i view or download the tv commercial for this phone?
