BestBuy.com has Wii games available for pre-order
The kind folks at Best Buy have pulled off the shadester move of the week, and are offering Nintendo Wii games for "pre-order." Right now they have Red Steel, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl available for pre-order, with a supposed release date of 12/01/2006. All three titles are priced at $49.99. The odd thing about it is that the two first party games, Mario and Smash Bros., aren't even slated as launch titles, not to mention the fact that releasing a console 8 days after Thanksgiving is a bit silly. We're sure these are just placeholders for now, to get your bucks early (like those crazy Xbox 360 bundle schemes), and actual details will be filled in with time. Those dang capitalists.

They do make computer entries long before anything is concrete, but odd to see it on the consumer website this early.
When I worked for BBY I could look up Halo 3 and Gears of War. Just goes to show anyhting is possible.

I don't know what kind of accounting voodoo you can pull these days. I suppose if they can report the revenue without actually getting it in the door, that would make sense, but they won't collect it from you until the item ships, so they're not really getting your money early.

I still want to wake up from this bad dream and tell someone "Dude, in my dream, Nintendo renamed their new console the WEE, and grown men were forced to ask for games for their WEE, and kids were forced to ask their parents if they could play with their WEEs after they finish their homework."
Apparently, I'm still dreaming it. I can't wake up.

too bad the price of games doesn't correlate with the "lower" price of the console.

I didn't know that Super Mario Galaxy was a launch title. I heard it wouldn't be. It would be good if it is.

I'll just wait for costco to carry it because it will most likely have all the controllers and 2 games for of course costco price. Just like when the psp and xbox360 came out costco price is really good. Sure you wont be the first person to have the console but I like my money in my pocket more :)

Last I heard Microsoft was charging $60 (or stores were selling them at that suggested price), so I'm happy to see Nintendo has stuck at $50. I guess that constitutes lower in my book, when the competition is charging higher. To be fair the competition certainly spends more money on graphics and hardware, thus higher costs.
LongshotX @ Jun 8th 2006 10:51PM
50 dollars for a DS game? That's damn near close to half the price of the system. That is outrageous.
LongshotX @ Jun 8th 2006 11:51PM
Oops that is Wii prices. I guess 50 is okay, somewhat steep however.

Microsoft charges $50 for their games, excluding special editions and the like. Third parties charge in the $40-$60 range.

Notice that the 3 pre-order titles are the titles that are some of the most anticipated? Seems like a gimmick to me. Although, if this were a launch lineup it would be a pretty good one. Wheres the sports game though?
E4 @ Jun 9th 2006 9:26AM
Yeah, Microsoft charges less for their games than third parties by about $10.
I'm really surprised to see Wii games at $50. More expensive than I imagined.
So Microsoft and Nintendo pricing for games are the same. Hmm, wonder why Sony will charge.
Omatic @ Jun 9th 2006 11:02AM
This might be a pricing error, with Best Buy assuming they'll cost that much. Even if they DO cost this much, I'm not too mortified over it. I've become acustomed to having to wait until games drop from 50 bucks to around 30 to buy them anyway.
StickFigure03 @ Jun 10th 2006 12:43AM
Maybe those are the right release dates; those do not have to be launch titles. Who ever said the Wii would launch then? Wasn’t it supposed to be in November? That would make those games after launch games. Which means the Wii is coming sooner!

i wanna i could pre-order the wii,cuz it'll probably b a sell out and if i wait to buy it in stores it might b sold out during the holidays. and i think the release date of these games r rong cuz i'm pretty sure red steel is a launch title, and the wii is launching in october. or maybe those we're the dates u'd get the games after u pre-ordered them.
