Xbox 360 spring update bugs: got any?
So we've been fooling around with our Xbox for the last few days since we got the big spring '06 360 update, and we haven't really noticed any issues; everything has been downright snappy, and the new interfaces and options have been rather useful. But it might appear not everyone got off so luckily. According to MaxConsole and Xbox 360 Fanboy, a number of users are experiencing major issues with their 360, including problems with saving, freezing, skipping, or long load times in NHL 2k6, GRAW, Burnout, Half Life 2, and Oblivion -- but it sounds like the noise has died down a little. So now that we've had a little more time to really see what's up, what say you, 360 users? Any issues worth mentioning that seem out of the ordinary?

I had been offline for 2 months while moving. I got two updates today, and my 360 freezes any time I try to play anything online. It also freezes while loading games half of the time. Not Happy!
So, is there any way to fix this yet?
I have had an ongoing problem with q4 where i have to constantly replay everything because i will save 5 times then all of the sudden i will die and all my saves will be gone and i will be back 2 hours in play.
another gripe i have is with farcry i bought the game put it in the system and without ever removing it i had a disc read error i dont know if its a game problem or a system problem there are no scratches
Well, mine quit working the day I got the update, so I think that it screwed mine up. I can't play any games except for Xbox Live Arcade, demos won't even work without freezing. And my Green Ring of Light has never turned into the Red Ring of light either. I've called MS and they say that it is hardware failure, but it worked for 6 months.
And now i can't get on it period, I just got the 3 red lights, i can't believe this. Now it won't even turn on. and it closed the disc tray on its own, and it even turned itself off once when i was playing, console completely shut down, no ring of green or anything
Well, mine finally died (three red rings of death) and I'm sending it in to get it fixed.
i just bought a 360 a week ago and now every time i try to play battlefield 2 it freezes after every online multi-player match. MS is sending me my box to send it back to them. has anyone got theirs back yeat? is it the same box? do they try and give you a refurbished one? better not. i feel really cheated after paying like 500 dollars for this piece of Crap.
"My 360 lags very notably and skips when playing back hi-def videos, whereas that of course worked like a charm before the update."...
Hey Blue-Six, I dont know if this will help or not, but i get a similar problem when playing DVDs on my 360 but only if its in 60Hz mode, when i change it to 50Hz its perfectly fine, perhaps what you're getting is lag between framerates? and the system is trying to adjust the picture to the audio accordingly or something... if this is right then changing the framefrate may help... i could be wrong, its an assumption but i hope it helps.
I was already having problems with freezing and stuff and was sending in my 360. I got the update before it was sent in, and when that updated went through, my system was getting worse and worse with each passing day. I just got my 360 back today. It's new. It's not even the sameone. Total different serial number, and within the first 5 minutes of having the system, it froze when it was conntecting XBOX Live for the first time. I won't hold that against them. It's the fact that an hour into it, I went to play videos, and they were skipping again. This is the samething that started to happen when the update went through. The videos will do the samething everytime. When start them, the sound and the video will skip every 10 seconds or so. But, if you stop the video, and replay it, it will run fine. This also holds true if you go and start a game or just resert you system, everything will run fine for a little, but it seems once the memory is getting used up, or whatever it does with the temp files, it bogs down. Other then that though, most of the problems I was having with my old system are no more from what I can tell =) Thank god, cause it was getting to the point where I would have to open and close my DVD-ROM drive about 15 times on avrg to get a game to start.
Reading through, this is better put on what's happening with me.
Having problems with HD video playback - lots of skipping and sound dropouts. Dashboard takes longer to load and stabilise (10 seconds ish).
Seems ok up to when profiles are loaded, then starts to lag. Games still play ok though. Have erased all game demos and videos, cleared the hard drive cache and recovered gamertag. No change.
4 other owners I know haven't had any problems!
Guess this is what you get when you are an early adopter!
I had already taken one machine back because of sound drop outs (which are still present on my new machine during dvd playback and games).
Hope the PS3 does things better!

Only the one major problem... ITS NOT A PS3. Other than that its ready and waiting to be traded in ;)
Mines is officialy dead. I haven't turned it on in weeks. Now I only get 3 red lights. Took the game out while the tray still opens. This sucks. This is the first time a console has gone bad on me. Those with HD playback problems should feel blessed that at least they get to see what their dashboard looks like. RIP xbox360 11/22/05-06/21/06
GRAW locks up every now and then but i think its GRAW and not the 360, cause i have not issues with any other games.
I recently had the 3 ROL problem i think due to an update so microsoft replaced the console with a new updated 360, however now every time i turn on the console just before the dashboard appears the screen cracks up for a second then everything goes fine again. It doesnt happen though when the hard drive isnt in, this is a brand new hard drive though and it happens when i put a different hard drive in as well, im baffled!
My 360 has saved "corrupted files" , and wont save soemtimes, and now it wont even read my harddrive, taking it back in the moring ...pos
I have been having freeze problems recently and the M-soft rep on the phone gave me "official" and "unofficial" ways of handling it. The official response was no different than what everyone else has been getting. Unplug, ventilate, try other games, blah blah blah. The unofficial response, which was his own personal feelings, not endorsed by Microsoft, was this......he said that Xbox, along with many other home appliances, draw a significant amount of power (obviously). He thought that the console would freeze during spikes in power as well as plummets in power. He said that I should consider buying a "line conditioner", which regulates the flow of power to the console, giving it a steady feed of juice. He said that isnt the same as a surge protector and you shouldn't use one of those. However, upon researching a line conditioner I found that they were $250+. Holy s**t.
I updated my 360 last night. Immediately, the video streaming from my WMP11 PC stopped working. It doesn't just not play the video, it breaks the media connection to the PC (although it can still see the PC) so that nothing plays (no video, no music, no photos) requiring a reboot of PC and console to get any form of media access working again. I haven't tested gaming yet. I am now waiting for my 48 hour callback after spending 45 mins on the phone to support.
I wonder what the legal implications of dodgy updates breaking a working product are in the UK? Its not as if I can back out the update to get a working Xbox again or even choose to re-apply it. Essentially, Microsoft have broken my 360.
Yeah having the freezing problems all the time after 6 months. its really sucks. Spring update bug really did effect me.. because i am freezing really bad when ever i enter my message center.
