Omisys PN-210V WiFi DVD player does it all
Not content to merely do that DVD, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD, CD, MP3, WMA and Ogg thing, this new PN-210V DVD player from Omisys has all manner of good things stuff inside its thin and generic-looking case. First off, the device can connect to your network and the Internet via the built-in 802.11b/g or Ethernet, and can access USB Mass Storage devices to play that content with its expansive format support. But the fun doesn't stop there, since the device has full 1080p support, with decoding capabilities for WMV9 and MPEG videos, and DVI and component outputs. There's also coaxial and optical digital audio out, along with support for Online radio, news and search. We're actually not quite sure what they might have left out, but we're sure we'll think of something.

Price, comes to mind.
Anyone got a price and release date on this sucker? The Omisys website has this player up on it's page with all specs, but I don't where I can get all this video goodness.
I wish they had announced this 6 weeks ago. I would have definitely considered it instead of building a(nother) computer to do just this.
Looks like all it is missing is the ability to play bin/cue files.
For a start, DivX 6.0 support seems to be absent..
It looks like they forgot Samba or NFS support and you have to use this crappy Omi PC desktop server to stream content from your file server, which presumably only runs on Windows, leaving us Mac and Linux folks high and dry. Looks like I'm sticking with XBMC + Samba + Linux file server...
So close, yet so far away...
[Sorry if this is a repost, I don't think my last one went through]
It looks like they forgot Samba or NFS support. From the documentation, it looks as though the only way to stream media from your desktop or file server is to have this Omi PC thing installed, which presumably only runs on Windows and leaves us Mac and Linux users high and dry.
The great XBMC + Samba + Linux file server solution is still the best.
HDMI and HDCP would have been nice too.
If it's anything like the Snazio from Snazzi, they will have left out everything they list in spec! Which would make it worthless! They will sell you an unfinished product; they say that it will do as promised after you install the latest firmware. Which will never appear! And then you end up with nothing more then a very expensive crappy dvd-player. And this one looks remarkably like the Snazzio! So, who wants mine?
or you could just get an xbox with xbox media center on it for about $150 (no need to open up and mod them anymore) and have all this goodness pluss samba and support for every format from divx to bin to even flv.
sounds just like the LinkPlayer http://www.iodata.com/usa/products/products.php?cat=HNP&sc=AVEL&ts=2&tsc=&sc=AVEL&pId=AVLP2%2FDVDLA06 except for the DVI and WIFI. And the LinkPlayer has a Linux "server" as well as many 3rd party server options if you don't like the official one.
have to say I absolutly love the linkplayer, I even wrote my own little "server" for it (apache/php based) that lets you browse and play video.google.com's "popular" vids (other tags could be added though), you can get it here http://www.swisscenter.co.uk/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,/func,view/catid,12/id,2477/#2477
If it's not region-free, I'm not interested.
Thank god for bootcamp! sure, its a little inconvienient to reboot into windows to run software that connects to this player, but hey, at least i dont need another computer now!
"Suggested retail price of the Omisys PN-210V: 319 euros (approx. 216 pounds according to current exchange rates)."
So about $400, which seems a tad hefty for this nice little unit.
Yeah, HDMI outputs would be good. And the lack of any sort of support for H.264 means it will be of limited use in a couple years.

It will be closer to $300. In effect us poor old European consumers seem to have a much less favourable exchange rate when it actually comes to spending our cash than it may seem. Check the same thing on both amazon uk and com and you'll see what i mean...
If you could just stick in a digital set-top box with 2 tuners and a 360GB HD I would buy it no matter how expensive it would be.
I thought you couldn't do 1080p without an HDMI port? (True 1080p that is)
Maybe they forgot an optical-input ??
just in case you want to connect your Xbox 360 or PS3 on it...
Sounds like a device that will help pave the path away from the scams of Bluray and HD-DVD.
Sounds very similar to the Zensonic Z500, but it fully supports NFS, SMB and uPnP on the server side.
Approx AUD$500

I believe DVI is the same thing as HDMI, but just without the audio.
Yeah, add HDMI upconversion and a DVD recorder that supports all formats, then it's perfect. (And a low price)
My LinkPlayer is pretty good (especially after upgrading the drive and output filters). I have been using it for a year and can't *believe* that companies are still releasing new products that add no new features.
First solid alternative that SUPPORTS H.264 will replace my Linkplayer. Until then, you've got to be kidding!
