Cingular brings Push Mail to 8125: MSFP up for download
Bang! Just as expected, Cingular pulled the trigger on that MSFP, finally bringing Microsoft's Direct Push eMail to your 8125. If you're packing a 2125 you'll have to hold tight; your update is "coming soon." No surprise, but Cingular fails to mention the inclusion of A2DP stereo audio support so we'll just have to wait for you brave souls to report back on your experience m'kay? Now best get to downloading 'cause your boss budgeted the extra $49.99 per month (same as BlackBerry Access) required for unlimited Internet and Direct Push mail, right?[Thanks, Ed Haber]

Too bad the new rom update they posted is corrupt...
Now, how exactly does push email work through the providers like cingular? Do I need to pay them extra (if I already have unlimited internet)? or is it something I can do through my own computer at home?
Is a non-corrupt file up for grabs yet?
Didn't they just lower the BB plan to $29.99?
As I read the Cingular user forum threads, I also find that the ROM upgrade MAY be corrupt. Why? The size of the HTC America website download is only 39 MB, less than the xda developer's website ROM sized at 52 MB (plus or minus). Note: Everyone agrees that the HTC ROM is identical to the one on the xda-developer's site. Accordingly, some wary users suspect there may be a problem (Houston?)with the upgraded ROM. Not only that, some unsuspecting users tried to install the ROM, only to find it doesn't work.
To answer above... Push tech only works with Microsoft Exchange Server with SP2. You can configure it through delivery options.
It works by sending a ping to an exchange server with a maximum lifetime. The exchange server holds the ping until expiration, unless an new mail has arrived. At that point it will respond to the ping and the phone will sync immediately. If no mail has been recieved at the time the ping dies, the phone simply sends another and waits.
Engadget should post another article stating that the ROM is corrupt. This is pretty low class of Cingular to not test their ROM from the website.
so then, this will only work for corporations running their own exchange server? Those of us who are "independent" are screwed?
Ok...I have spoken with Cingular and HTC, and the file uploaded was "an older version of the update", a Beta if you will. HTC is currently working on getting the right file out there.
At Steven: You're screwed if you want to use the MSFP, but so are customers for every other carrier using the MSFP. If you want push email without it, your choices are getting blackberry or xpressmail (xpressmail is completely worthless though). But do you really need push email? Just set your device to check every 5 or 10 minutes. I'm using an 8125 with gmail and it checks every 10 minutes, vibrates when I have new emails. Simple.
I just talked with Customer Service at Cingular and they said that they need more cases logged for it to go to Technical Services and get resolved. So start calling Cingular and open tickets that the file is corrupt and hopefully it will be resolved soon.
I don't need the push mail part, but if you want A2DP for stereo bluetooth headphones, you can get it here : http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&message.id=5473&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
I installed that ROM, with feels a liitle faster than the stock 8125 rom, and bought the Macally Bluewave bluetooth headphones for $85. They work great together!
The only downside is that I have to re-pair them everytime I power up the headphones.

@enzo: yeah, that's what I have my phone do now, but it would be nice to be able to sync with my contacts and appointments wirelessly. Plus, I think push uses less power than connecting out every 10 minutes. Thanks though
1:30 PM Eastern and the package is still corrupt. Although we have been using the MSFP in Beta for 2 months and I can tell you this still does not compare to Good Technology's "GoodLink" UI. Even though we have to have a Goodlink server (with MS you can use your existing Frontend server) it's worth it. Plus with MS we had 2 users on 10 MB limit plans and they were charged $200+ b/c they exceeded that month. Ouch! If you want enterprise class, stick with Good (http://demos.good.com/cingular).
the non-corrupt version is up now....
Check back soon for the download link to the required updated firmware for the 8125 and 2125. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with the download.
You can get free push email from emoze.com it works great
Hope this help
