JVC-Victor's DLA-HD10KS 1080p LCoS projector
JVC-Victor just announced their DLA-HD10KS LCoS based 1080p projector intent on kicking those DLP projectors to the curb. Utilizing their D-ILA implementation of LCoS like we've seen in their highly-praised big panels, this baby pumps a theater-like 27-decibels and features an okay 2,500:1 contrast ratio, 2048 x 1536 resolution, and one measly DVI-D HDCP port -- sorry, no HDMI here folks. And that rather lackluster 600 lumen rating makes the DLA-HD10KS suitable only for the darkest of home theater setups. Dropping July 1st for ¥1,440,000 (or about $12,500) with replacement 200W lamps set to pull an additional ¥26,250 (or about $228) per pop. For that price, you might want to hang with 1080p DLP just a bit longer, eh?

Well, all you need for HDMI is a different cable for few euros.
Electrically, a DVI-D with HDCP is identical to HDMI. (OK, no audio, but you didn't plan to use a beamer's internal speaker anyway, did you?)

600 lumens is not great either. Hopefully the bulbs last a while, though.

Why would someone buy this over the Sony Ruby?

whoa, this is not a 1080p projector! it's a 2K projector! 1080p is 1920x1080... this has a resolution of 2048x1536, the film academy 2K spec!

I don't think it is 2048x1536 as that would make it a 4:3 projector, and why would you need a HDMI connector instead of DVI, to send the sound to the projector?
Dubiousd @ Jun 19th 2006 1:47PM
The reason you wouldn't want HDMI is because the maximum resolution is 1920X1080. You would need a DVI dual link connection for 2048x1536.

Wow - your complete lack of knowledge about lumen specifications is astounding. Maybe you should talk to an ISF calibrator and/or look at the ANSI lumen ratings of even the best commercial theater before deriding a product for something you clearly know nothing about. Better yet, find a local Runco dealer and see what a real projector with real-world ANSI lumen specs can do.

A 65-lumen Sure-Fire flashlight seems to sear my retinas, though my 2000-lumen Epson 76c seems about equal.. :)
Great little business projector, but yeah, the 2000-lumen spec is just silly.
