D-Link launches 3G Securicam DCS-2120 wireless internet camera
D-Link's got a new weapon for anyone looking to keep an eye on burglars and other unwanted trespassers on their premises, the Securicam DCS-2120, a wireless security camera with 3G mobile video support. So now you'll be able to obsessively peep what's going on at your home or business from just about anywhere (with 3G service, that is) via your 3G-equipped phone or PDA. And if that's not enough for ya, the camera also has its own CPU and web server, which'll throw up a live feed that you can access from any web browser, as well as built-in 802.11g for additional networking options, including using multiple cameras. The specs for the camera itself are otherwise pretty standard, with a 640 x 480 resolution capturing video at "up to" 30 frames per second. D-Link's press release says the camera will launch in the U.K. sometime in July for £179.97, but it looks like it's already on sale over here for about $300 US.[Via Tech Digest]

This is not a bad IP camera however I suggest that if the camera will be for monitoring a home or business and you want to make sure the camera is reliable and always running, upgrade to a better quality product. AXIS, Sony and Panasonic make a great IP camera.

I'd like to get this or a similar camera, with this being the high end of my price range. But I haven't seen any that stand out that people seem to be really happy with.
Anyone have a camera like this they love?
Was linksys first? Check theirs out http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Linksys-Does-the-Spying-for-You.htm
I've been looking for a wireless security system for the house, but something that was wireless and wouldn't break the bank. This isn't priced too high, especially for the screen size and the 30 FPS. The closest I've found is a wireless security camera at http://www.kleargear.com, but it's probably not as fast. At least not at a price below $100 I would think.
My HOA needs a solution similar to this one. We've been dealing with vandals causing damage at the pool in your community, and mostly its by individuals that do not live here and occurs after pool-hours. Personally, I'd rather see triangulating lasers (sharks with laser in pool), but I get the feeling that'd be expensive (to feed).
Ive had the linksys wireless camera similar to this for over 2.5 years now...I like it - it's not the greatest (bright sun will wash out the image, relatively dark and resoultion is lacking), but it does have motion detetion that will send me a 5 sec clip (though slightly delayed) to me via email. I actually busted my old landlord coming into my rented apartment without notifying me. Got out of my lease early and she was p.o.'ed. Got a built in web server and I can set up dyndns.org and fwd the port traffic so I can view from work. It was a good puppy monitor. They now have remote pan/tilt cameras and this camera seems a bit pricey.
No, Linksys was not first, D-Link came out with their first Internet Camera years before Linksys started copying them.
There is an alternative. Try the 2G GPRS camera from www.iris.tv with integrated SIM card
