Despite their
troubles,
Delphi is still kicking it with their auto add-on business, now pushing a premium navigation system designed for most 2003-2006 GM light trucks and SUVs, including the Chevy Tahoe, Suburban, Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade, among others. The Delphi TNR800 (Touch Screen Navigation Radio) combines DVD-based GPS navigation with AM/FM/CD capabilities in a package sporting a fairly largish 6.5-inch touchscreen that blends in neatly with your vehicle's console. What's more, the system is able to interact with other pre-installed GM options like XM, On-Star, DVD systems, and CD changers, as well as the vehicle's computer system itself, picking up speed information and no doubt telling you how good or bad a driver you are. All this comes at a price, of course -- $1,999 when it drops before the end of the month.
for $2k, it needs ipod integration.
I agree!..for that much money it ought to work in Alaska, but it doesn't. Yeah, I know...why do I need a NAV system in Alaska - well because I paid for the damn thing and the deralership didn't tell me that the screen would go blank as I crossed the the 54th Parrallel ...but I'm not bitter..
The TNR800 is exactly the same unit offered since '05 on all the GM trucks/SUVs as a factory option. The unit pictured is *exactly* the same unit I installed on my '04 Yukon almost 18 months ago. Yes, it's got voice output, is DVD-based, and works with the factory XM tuner, DVD changer, and overhead DVD system, and has the 6.5" touch-screen.
I got my new TNR unit from an aftermarket parts retailer in TX that gets their units directly from Delphi, anyway.
The only possible new thing about this is that it's being offered to the public directly from Delphi instead of having to be installed at the factory or through parts retailers.
Do you have the part # on the dvd that work on the Delphi tnr800 touch screen navigation? What dvd software version are you using on your navigation?
Todd, could you get me in touch with this company in Texas? I would like ot grab one of those Navigation units
Looks like an eclipse/fujitsu 10 navigation unit which is currently offered to toyota/lexus.
how do you use the touch screen without taking your eyes off the road?
i think this is a good thing. i got an '05 chevy used, and it didn't have a nav system. whoops. i knew i needed one, so my bad. but anyways, the regular radio is where all the vehicle diagnostic info is displayed, and all that info doesn't come with other off the shelf nav units.
i actually emailed chevy to see if i could get the factory model installed aftermarket, and they said no.
thank god someone out there was smarter than the customer support people i talked to.
Todd is on the money here - I have this unit in my '06 Escalade, which I purchased in May of 2005. This isn't anything new.
any way to hack the unit to play standard movie dvd's in the upper dvd slot where you put the navigation dvd???? Or can you play dvd's in the cd changer???
Did anyone ever figure out a way to hack the in-dash nav. system to play DVD's or use the navigation while the car is moving?
Nevertheless the 6.5" easy-to-read touch-screen display that makes inputting destinations or points of interest a simple task is quite worth the price of the package. I would just go after the Onstar Turn-by-Turn Navi System for just $100. LOL
