Nintendo calms crowd: will announce Wii deets in Sept.

We're not sure this'll manage to get all the rumor mongers to pack up their bags and go home for a couple of months, but Nintendo responded to the rampant speculation on Wii price and launch date by stating today that they'll announce both of those little details in September. This makes a September launch increasingly unlikely, but doesn't say much more than that. After the announcement a McNealy analyst stated: "Our position remains that the Wii could retail as low as $199 instead of $249, and October is a reasonable timeframe." So, really, we're still stuck with a fairly large launch window within which we're sure to hear a few more "sure thing" dates rumored, but really, would we have it any other way?

the other night my friends and i started mucking around with mario kart double dash, 6 hours later we were still playing, this got me thinking if the wii offers titles as fun and entertaining it could really take off, it will become a real party console bringing friends together playing for hours just to beat the one friend that wont loose

Well at least Nintendo's minimum and maximum estimates on time, price, and performance are reasonable. Whereas I think that the PS3 is stuck between disappointing performance and insane price. I think it's because Nintendo didn't oversell...unless their controller ends up being a POS : )

Remember what happened with the DS Lite though; some stores started selling them before the release date. Imagine what would happen if they started sending out Wiis to the stores, and Wal-Mart goes and breaks the release date. :/

Note to PSP Fanboy: The PSP SUCKS ROCKS! I've had mine for a year and the last game i brought for it was StreetFighter and after that I haven' found a game I've wanted to play. I love my DS Lite and my PSP is sitting on my shelf until I can find a better use for it.

AJ. Grow up. Seriously, grow up. Last time I checked, from Dec'05 to June'06, the PSP was getting outsold by over 3 to 1 by the DS. It might be true that only the "grownup" crowd buying the PSP and the "kiddies" are buying the DS. However, if I was running a company, I'd rather my product sold 3.9 million units than 1 million units in a 6 month period regardless of who is doing the buying.

It's also funny that you rant about fanboys and accuse others of being 13 year olds. It really is.

Greasy Guide, Ghosts'n'Goblins look fantastic so there is hope but I know what you mean. I haven't played my PSP at all this year. I picked it up to dust it every month or so but that's about it. Seriously, where the heck are the "must buy" games?

If anything at least the psp sold better then the N-gage. I cant belive people are still named thier sons AJ, what a gay name. To be honest ever since the launch of the DSlite here in the states the psp is now totally doomed from success. Psp was killing the DS in sales, casual gamers bought the psp because it looks cool and it has the playstation name, they never bought the psp because of the games, this is why the psp has low software sales, most psp users use the psp as an cheap mp3 player. But the DSlite is going to cement victory for the DS here in the states. I've seen casual gamers look and say wow look at this handheld it looks better then the psp and looks more ADULT. With the DSlite on the market the psp is officially doomed. The only thing that can save the psp now is another 50 price cut or the realeas of the white psp in north American Market. Just be happy that the psp had its moment of success against the DS in America for the past 6months. But now the PSP gets owned by the Ds everywhere. Sorry of the Psp is loosing AJ, hopefully the ps3 which cost 600 dollars will take off like hot cakes.
