Keepin' it real fake, part XXIX: Gameboy Micro has a twin
Is the $100 Gameboy Micro a little too rich for your blood? Why not pick up the similar-looking One Station (not to be confused with the POP Station, although it's entirely possible that they're related), which was recently spotted for under forty bucks at a Philippine electronics shop - it offers all the fun of your favorite 8-bit Nintendo games (on special knockoff cartridges, of course) without any of the bloated costs associated with those expensive licensing fees.

Well apparently I saw a shopkeeper advertises this as "being better than the GBA-SP". He also said that this company wants to "revolutionize gaming and include everything in one system".
Good thing I saw another shop that truthfully told customers that the GBA-SP is better.
Note: The DS and PSP hadn't caught up yet.

That's not a Gameboy Micro knockoff, it's a Wonderswan Crystal knockoff.

I live in the Philippines. It may look like a Gameboy Micro, but I saw these as early as 2004. The Gameboy Micro was what, released last year? Also, it's larger than the Gameboy Micro (thicker, longer).

Hmm...in my opinion, it looks much more similar to gameboy micro than a wonderswan crystal. Compare the knockoff to these images:

I mean, look at the shape, and the fact that wonderswan has 2 dpads. Maybe you think the gameboy micro is a knockoff of the wonderswan crystal too?

the d-pad is a dead-ringer for the Wonderswan d-pad. Although the form and content certainly makes this a gameboy knockoff.
I like general idea of actually playing the orginal classics in nice portable package though. Hopefully Nintendo will at some point make the downloaded content from their up-coming virtual console service available to be played on the DS or their next portable, the Wii-to-go.

I've been re-thinking if I really want to buy this or not. I looked on the JungleTac website (those are the people who make this) and they also make the VG Pocket Max which are sold everywhere from Gamestop to Radio Shack. The games in that thing SUCK for the most part.
There's a few diamonds in the rough, but for the most part the games suck. The only thing worthwhile is gutting it for the screen to make a portable Atari 2600 or something.
I think they might be the ones who make the DreamGear units also and the games on there were horrible. Again, there were a few very good games, but I remember playing one of them and it only had 3 or 4 levels. One game on the DreamGear was the BEST gun game I've ever played on a NES. Sure it was repetitive, and kind of boring, but the graphics and layout were good.
While I still probably want this sytem anyway because it looks to have some better games on a few of the cartridges, and because I collect it all, I might hold off on getting it.
I wonder how much

I think I might get one, looks cool.

At $28 + $9 + s/h it looks like cool little toy for the *casual* gamer. I wonder if a web browser cartridge might be possible for further Nintendo rip off-age.
The resolution specs are not terribly inspiring, but the tv out feature and "comming catridge" set to enable this device as a media player it could make a nice traveling companion. This coupled with one of my HPCs for internet access could make a very nice travel entertainment setup.
Unless of course they come out with a web browser cartridge...
(kidding...mostly...)

Wake up, Nintendo. There's a huge Asian market for portable casual classic gaming.

Would be a nice collector's item if it wasn't so expensive.
