HP's Compaq Presario v6000 laptop
HP has more laptop love for us today, this time with some of that Compaq branding. It's nothing new in the design department, but the shiny new v6000 has a fresh model number, and accompanies the v3000 with more budget laptop goodness. It's replacing the v5000 models, but there's nothing too terribly exciting to see here. The units feature AMD Turion 64 X2 and Mobile or AMD Sempron processors, and eke by with a GeForce Go 6150 graphics card. Luckily, the v6000 shines in the little things, featuring a 5-in-1 card reader, Firewire, three USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard/54 slot, 802.11a/b/g WiFi and Bluetooth. Unfortunately, most of those features are optional, and it sounds like the barebones version of this PC is very bare indeed. No word on price or exact availability, but at 6.6 pounds, with a 15.4-inch display and some nice new looks, it still shouldn't be a terrible option for the style-conscious consumer on a budget when it does drop.

NOISY FAN??
Ive just bought a Presario v6000. It seems like a cool pieceof machinery. BUT im qiute surprised with noise lev of the fan. It seems to me that the fan is running at highest speed all the time. Which makes it a bitch just to write this post.
Any one who has the same experience .... and a cure?

Christian - Same issue with the fan running at high speed all the time....Did you get any responses for correcting?
thanks
i sometimes have that problem, it happens with a lot of laptops. you have to keep the computer on a hard, flat surface (ie wooden desk) NOT on things like a bed, lap (although it kinda defeats the point of calling it a laptop then) etc
i have just been given a presario v6000. it is about a year old and the reason i was given it is beacuse the owner cant be bothered to fix it. The problem with it is is that the power comes on, the blue lights all light up but the screen remains blank. Any1 know whats up with it? Sometimes about 5% of the time it will work, but it crashes all the time. Its very very unstable. Is it my motherboard?, infected?, can somebody please guide me.
I read alot of people have problems with there power, i dont have any of those problems but i have thought it might be the battery cell itself?
i have run a diagnostics test (after trying to get the screen to come on for an hour!) The results show no defects to the harddrive.
I got my wife the Compaq V6000 for Christmas and by July it would not power up with the power cord or a fully charged battery. We sent it into HP for repair under the warranty and after waiting 6 weeks for the system to be repaired we started to call complaining about the repair status. After weeks of complaining we got to speak to a case manager who told us that the motherboard was shot and that the new motherboard was on back order for 3 more months because this was a common problem with the Compaq v6000. She then sent us a fully loaded HP v6500 which had a lot more accessories then the Compaq V6000 and worth 3 times the price. She also sent us the old Compaq to retrieve our data from it and gave us the option to keep it and lose the warranty on the new one or return it in 30 days. I was just surfing the web looking into fixing the old computer and keeping it but after reading these postings I am definitely returning it and keeping the warranty on the new one. Because who knows, the HP V6500 could have the same problem within the 1 year warranty period!
I've my Compaq Presario v6210us for seven months and have had no problems. The battery is little quick to die (1 hr and 45 min). But the graphics are great and runs flip 3d and windows aero run smoothly (I boosted VRAM to 255MB in BIOS). The only thing that I hate about it is that when I access the intergrated card reader my audio sounds shitty. This laptop is fast though and better than any laptop or desktop I've ever used. The SCSI hard drive is the best thing about, it writes and reads super fast. Would recommend to anyone.
ive just got a v6000 and it wont power on just like mattypartridge17 laptop above.....what has happened does anyone know?????
GOOD DAY! MY HUSBAND BOUGHT THE HP PRESARIO V6000 IN DUBAI. I JUST WONDERING WHY HIS LAPTOP HAS NO "DIGITAL MEDIA SLOT"? IS THAT FEATURE OPTIONAL? OR DOES PRERSARIO V6000 HAS OTHER MODEL WITH NO MEDIA SLOT?
Hey there presario fans, some running faster then others....
I baught the presario V6000...mmm....I'd say like early February. so about 8 months. I am a graphic artist and a web page designer, and I have been really putting the smack down on computers since the mid 1980's. my first computer was an Amiga. This computer here, well...it has honestly been great to me. I run 3D programs on it, like bryce, poser and 3D studio max...and also Photoshop of course...Illustrator...premier, audio editing software...
This computer has taken everything I have thrown at it. I will definately look for the power socket problem, but I think I know why you people are having these problems to be honest, and I think its a user error. See, there is an order in which the plug is assembled and plugged in. you must assemble the 2 pieces of the power cord, plug it into the wall, and THEN plug it into your lappy. that way there is no chance it is getting juiced....thats what the components in the little box are for, regulating the juice after it is plugged in. same with any device...phones, PDA's, .....electric shavers...
if this sequence of assembly is not used, poof...broken socket that wont know its plugged in. Anyone guilty of that? show of hands anyone? We all cant be a genius, and even if genius level is achieved, it doesnt mean we can know everything about anything. guy with a fan problem....are you playing with your lappy on a rug? laptops need a hard flat surface or they melt. not really your lap either honestly. too easy to block the air vents.
ANYONE LOOKING at these posts, please remember, someone using a product just might not know the proper ways to take care of it. shit happens. I am truly sorry for all the bad experiences on this page, my experiences with this thing so far have been nothing short of fantastic.

I have an HP dv6105us, it won't turn on with the power button, but I can get the Quickplay button to start the unit, and some combination of shift/ESC/DEL/FUNC will sometimes get it to launch WinXP-home media.
I removed the battery, RAM,reset the HDD with no success in restarting.
I chatted to an HP rep yesterday to try to find the correct key combo to get Quickplay to stop and start windows. From the Quickplay menu, I should be able to get into Windows, but it goes into hibernation.
Please any advice is welcome.

ive had my laptop for about a years or so and well im having a problem with it.. when i cut it on it makes this annoying beeping sound and doesnt bout up..has any one else had this problem. if so how did u fix it?
thanks
Hi there,
I've bought a V6000 notebook in Holland, and it has a pretty nice design. I've also sometimes some problems, starting up with blue screen physical dump..? And something I've recognized, If there's my usb mouse at the right side in the laptop the laptop won't start up. If I put the usb out the screen is going on and it's starting up, some strange security/fault that it won't start with usb at the right side. Maybe for some people a solution for a problem. I've my doubts about the hinges, sometimes I hear a bit a strange sound, however it feels strong.
Another thing.. My harddrive is making a very high irritating sound, somebody has the same problem?
I've named a couple of negative arguments, but still it works most of the time perfect. I think I'm going to the shop were I bought it, now there's some warranty so maybe somebody can look at it. Better now then later.
Bye,
D. Dekkers
hey, ive just got my compaq V6000 and i want to insert a memory card . the memory card is small and used for storing pictures when using a camera. i cant find where to insert the memory card. can someone PLEASE HELP ME?
My v6000 and I have been a team for several months. This is a sturdy little system. No complaints, highly reliable [knock on wood]. It's not all that powerful, but it's got leet buttons. And for $600, it's not like I expected a nuclear reactor. Banishing Windows Vista and trading it for XP should fix that... and speaking of operating systems, the Presario v6000 plays nice with Ubuntu Linux.
Only pitfalls worth mentioning: it's got a wonky little underachiever of a video card, and this system is a MAGNET for fingerprints.
My LCD screen cracked on my V6000. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement (new or used) without paying $600 for one?
Well, well, well, where do I start. First off, you can buy a screen on ebay! starting around $150-$200 bucks. There is a link on a post on this page for install, fairly simple if you take your time. For the others, electronics will be electronics and just like anything else manmade a certain number of them are going to have failures. I own the pres. v6000 and I love it to death, I even love it with my windows vista. I refurbish and sell older laptops. They all have some glich to them. For the money this is aTn awesome machine, I have not had any of the problems listed and I hope that continues. Laptops are like little babies, they need to be handled and cared for properly at all times. Most users like me dont read manuel, so like previous post by D. Dekkers many things can be caused by users without ever even knowing it. The design of the mouse does hinder typing but I just found out that button turns it off! (WOW)how hard it that, very nice I say. Anyways for looks you cant beat it! You need to keep it clean with a soft cloth (usually included). Oil comes off your hands and finger tips, deteriates buttons and palm area. Oh! my Gooooosh! This Screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The screen is simply awesome, I was in the car with the sunlight glaring in and I could read every letter on my screen. It has some special white background underneath that allows you to see in lighted area like it was dark as night. I could go on and on and on. Remember I work on laptops! The good far, far, far, far out weighs the bad.
I just wanted to let potential buyers know! it's not all bad........ Most of people who come to post is because they are not happy with there product. While the satisfied ones are on other sites using there computer for what it was intended for. Taking care of business!!
ihave lost my laptops sound drivers now how should get back it
I have a compaq presario v6000, and I have had nothing but problems with it, this is my second computer, I had first bought a HP Pavilion, and it went out after only two months, so I had to replace it with this one, or pay more money. Anyway my problem today, is my sound just quit working, it will beep at me, but where the horn is at the bottom it has a red X over it, and it doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have any ideas, of how I can get my sound back on? Thank you dissatisfied owner
I bought a V6030US a year ago. It worked gret, I loved it. Until 2 days after my warranty expired. I press the power button, the blue lights come on, you hear noises, but nothing comes on the screen. It takes at least 6 times before it actually comes on then it works well. I chatted with the HP techs and they couldn't figure it out and said bring it to a service center. I did stuff on my own, cleared up space, got rid of the old restore points, and sure enough, it started right up, but it stopped a few days later. Now my wireless card won't work and I can't on the internet. HP told me to do a recovery, which I did, oops. Didn't fix the problem and I lost much of my data. Is it a motherboard problem??
i have just got the presario v6000 , i didn't know that i can't install windows xp professional on it becose the XP'S Drivers are not available at the HP website .. i was wondering if any one of you guys is facing the same problem .. i need to install the XP'S Drivers urgently ..
plz fill me up if have something..
I'm having the same problem as you, Ed. The wireless went out on my Presario Laptop, and I shipped it in expecting it to be a 1 wk repair. Called today to get the tracking number (told it would be available by 12/16), told it is still in repair, will cost me $755. I've now been on hold for a "Case Manager" who handles escalated calls for over 20 minutes. If I had known they were going to screw me like this, I could have easily bought a wireless card to pick up on my neighborhood's access for a fraction of the price and stress.
I've also had problems with getting my computer to boot up (the blinking blue lights and noisy fan starting and stopping). Had I known the quality of the computer would have been so far, and the customer service so dismal, I wouldn't have purchased this computer.
I have had the V6000 since last March, Love it. I used some bandage remover to take off the stickers, much sleeker looking. The only problem is the wifi stopped working last week. Rather then send it in to have it fixed I use a netgear plugin for wireless. I agree with the fellow who said most folks do not understand that when you power up on AC, YOU must have the entire power cord assembled and plugged into the wall socket before plugging it into the unit, Sadly even many expert level p.c users do not know this.
hi i have recently bought a v6604au with vista..i want to install XP i have downloded all the drivers from a site...but i am worry abt will xp give me goood performence over this configuration(motherboard)....
This peice of machinery is a beauty. I got it 4 xmas and it is amazing. It is my first laptop and wats even better is that our neighbours have wireless internet and with this computer i can use it aswell! and whats funny is that it is faster that our acutual internet! Great laptop though. Could do with a bit more hard drive though
Hi, just reading some comments trying to find some insight and am feeling better that I am not the only one having wireless problems! It was there on new years day and then it was gone! tried everything I could think of, even did a recover thinking it was a simple driver thing and nothing. Went to a local computer repair shop who was very interested and after three days I now have it back after he failed to fix it, althought he did find out that apparently it is a basic flaw within the HP/Compaq systems that make it incompatible with some updates from microsoft? Only way i can see around it now is either to see if another brand of network card will work as there will be different drivers or opt for the wireless stick..(the warranty is over :( ) Any one else have any soultions for this problem or are there more of us who are suffering from it?
Same thing happened to my Presario V6000. Wireless died after the first of the year for no apparent reason. Frustrating! Hope someone can help us.
Hi, try this url
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c01087194&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_UKEN
I found this page after writing the comment after a lot of searching, note the first problem is the one about the wireless!! HP is now picking my laptop up tomorrow for a free repair beacause it falls into the right category!
Hope this is helpful to you
Nicola
Well guys, I just start suffering the same problem of wirelss network card. It suddenly got red and I can't turn it to blue now. I taught this will not be a big deal, after updating drivers and all, I will manage to fix it. But after revewing all the comments from you guys, I understand I am gone :(. I am using cable internet now. Do you recommand me to send it for repair to HP or I should survive with this, they will rather create another headach for me :(.
hi,
i would recommend sending it back to hp under the url I posted above, but it is up to you,,, mine was away only 4 days and now i have back a working wireless laptop! they had to replace the network card and part of the motherboard so def worth doing! and as it is a limited warrenty enhancment it is all free of charge which is an added bonus. They didn't have to wipe any of my data,, even though i did a partial wipe myself which was pointless,, doh!
Hope this helps!
can some one help me?
I got Compac Presario V6000,its working well till now but one problem is that, oftenly its keyboard does't work, and that time things are just stuck up. after some time it goes automatically right or by pressing some keys again and again, it returns into order.
can some one suggest me solution for this? Thanks
well where do i start. i've had my laptop for over 1 year now. the first 8 month's it worked fine. then 1 day it just went out the wireless. that is. so after talking to their tech peeps. having me reboot, reforemat and every thing else before they would even talk about repairing it. so i finaly get to send it in. ok they repair the wireless. but now my sound does'nt work now. so here we go again. send repaired returned. now i have a vertical line on the right side of the screen a greenish yellow color line and now my warranty expired.
I swear, this technical support people at HP/compaq must be the most useless and idiot people i have ever seen. My computer has been there 4 times since October and it's still not fixed. No more HP/Compaq for me. Next time HELLO APPLE...suggest you do the same. The Presario V6000 and compaq are the most useless product I have ever encoutered. And as for their Tech support....no even worth mentionning, they are totally usesless
