Manoi AT01 ready for pre-order
That cute and cuddly Manoi robot we peeped in September is about to enter the market with a new and properly menacing visage. That's fine by us 'cause if a robot isn't throwin' flame or probing criminal orifices, well, then it isn't really being true to its nature now is it? This 13.3-inch, 3.1-pound robot sportin' a mean bag of tricks can be pre-ordered for about ¥147,000 (or about $1,300) with shipment set for August.

I, for one, welcome our new adorable robotic overlords.

And I too, welcome our partially see-through robotic overlords.

Significantly less useful than a Rhesus Monkey, teh Manoi not only lacks opposable thumbs, but also fingers.
Completely unsuited for any task other than frightening children and catching on fire.

what is included in the bag of tricks?

yeah but I want a robot that does things like: get the remote, bring food, get the phone and so on... probably not the best for my health though.

Kyosho plans on releasing two different versions of Manoi based on the same internal design. The original version, as announced last Fall, and a new version, the AT01 that has a different exterior shell and different performance/programming characteristics. The robots are not available for pre-order yet, the website announcement is for customers to enter a lottery for the opportunity to buy one of the first 50 units.

I found this on youtube. Anyone know how it is controlled? Or does it just do random stuff all the time?

I had an opportunity to see Chroino, which is the earlier version of Manoi (http://www.gorobotics.net/The-News/Hobbyiest/Manoi-Is-A-Relative-of-Chroino.-More-Walking-Robots./) at the RoboNexus2005 event.
Anytime that Takahashi showed him off, he just ran through a set of predefined demo moves. I imagine that he, like all other RoboOnes, can also be remote controlled.

Is this website available somewhere where it's not written in gibberish?

If you are interested in toy Robots, there is a complete review about CAM-10 a very little (10 cm) robot that walks like human beings.
