The relatively young Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) consortium, a group dedicated to pontificating on the finer points of user interfaces and APIs for all things mobile, is welcoming a new member this week. Cingular
has joined Hutchison
, and SK Telecom -- among others -- to work on standardization initiatives that (theoretically) should bring about consistent user experiences and reduced costs for carriers and manufacturers. Verizon is not a member, so hopefully their much-maligned standard blood red UI won't be finding its way into OMTP's recommendations.
