Samsung rolls out SCH-B450 gaming phone
DS and PSP be damned -- if you happen to be in Korea, that is. Looking a bit like a D307 on performance-enhancing substances, Samsung's new SCH-B450 is designed with entertainment in mind, and it's packing enough tech to make the 2-megapixel camera possibly the least interesting feature of the device. Frankly, the spec sheet is a bit overwhelming: you get TV-out, A2DP, a motion sensor for Wii-like interaction, a game-friendly keypad, 3D acceleration, S-DMB reception, Immersion's VibeTonz, and that clever (yet frighteningly fragile-looking) dual hinge design. The B450 is sadly destined for Samsung's home market only, but we can always pick up a D307 and play make-believe, right?

3D acceleration or not, that game in the background looks like it sucks.
I wont mind playing with them chicks
Definitely looks neat.
I'm going to Korea (and other countries around) for new year's eve. I'm wondering if all these gadgets would work once back in the US.
Anyone has a clue about that?
SOME Korean phones work (partially) on Verizon's network (CDMA).
that game is the backround is raystorm. an excellent shump.
Russ
Do you know if CDMA is the only standard used in Korea or do they use GSM as well?
Is it smartphone? Or only ugly Java 3d games?
I think everyone's going about it backwards. We keep seeing phone companies trying to get into games, I want to see game companies get into phones.
I would love to see an established company like nintendo or sony make some gaming phones. That way good games would actually be produced, since it would actually be supported by more well known 3rd party developers.
That I'd be willing to jump on. Hell toss in a HD for music/movies and a camera, and you've go the all in one package. A DS with wireless and cell phone capabilities, I'd love to see that.
^^^^ that thinking will lead to the x-box smartphone.
hope they shrink the controls though or it will feature the best "crime deterrent"(concussion aid) available.
is that really Raystorm? if so I want this phone. more shmups on cellphones please.
mind I don't think Raystorm and Raycrisis were that great but they were fun. they both used 3d graphics but I think they were were inferior (in looks and gameplay) sequels to the 2d Rayforce... I think it was called that, for legal reasons the Sega Saturn version was called Layer Section in Japan and Galactic Attack in the US. still one of my favorite games. I'd much rather see pretty 2d than bad 3d-for-the-sake-of-3d especially in a portable.
need more shmups in portables.
Tao,
CDMA is the only standard in Korea. Unlike the US, though, the A/B channels are switched and they operate on 1900mhz (like it the US), but they operate on another completely different frequency as well.
You can roam on your Verizon phone in Korea (and China, and a buch of other places, actually), but bringing a Korean phone to Verizon is a pain.
You have to do a bunch of hacking, your phone will only work in 1900mhz markets (for the reason stated above), and you will have no data or messaging capabilities. In other words, you can only make voice calls in areas that are 1900mhz.
Wow, that thing looks like garbage.
I'm Sick and tired of Samsung pretending to be a top technolgy innovator when they are not.and BTW, the models are not even attractive.
Makes you think if this will somehow start to influence Nintendo game boy market share. With GB emulators coming out for mobiles and controls getting better this could be a serious threat to monopoly.
