Moto surprises with 3G MotoRAZR MAXX
Well, it's not an absolute surprise, we saw this model as an unnamed prototype floating around last month, but Motorola just officially took the wraps off of their new MotoRAZR MAXX, a purtiful followup to the V3x. At a mere 0.6-inches thick, the MAXX shaves a whole 0.2-inches off of the V3x. The new phone also adds EDGE and HSDPA in addition to the already speedy UMTS, making this handset much more likely to show up in the EDGE-friendly USA. Moto has included Bluetooth 2.0+ Enhanced Data Rate, 50MB of internal storage, a microSD slot for expansion and the snazzy glass front and touch sensitive music controls of launch buddy KRZR K1m. The 2.2-inch QVGA display is, of course, always welcome, as are the 2.0 megapixel and VGA cameras the phone has. Also, as a nice embellishment on the lot, the phone's details glow blue when receiving a call. Motorola is planning to release the phone to unknown markets and carriers in this half of 2006, our fingers are duly crossed.

God help t-mobile. I really need a new phone and I can't bring myself to get a plain razr when verizon has the media one, and t-mobile hasn't got a sexy phone in quite some time imo. Granted I'm too broke to pay for services like bluetooth, internet, and e-mail (I think my mac book is just fine for those), but a new phone in the t-mobile line up would be nice.
The V3X was always kind of overweight, sort of like how Miss V3 got married and a little too comfortable. Sure, she learned a few skills - better camera, UMTS, but she lost her figure! Glad the diet / weight program worked out for her.
Come on Cingular! They better pick this damn thing up and give it to me for sub $200 with a contract renewal, I wonder if it has video playback capapilities/player.
I've never been a big fan of the RAZR, but this one looks/sounds pretty cool.
Look at the specs; no 850; UMTS at 2100 only. This model is destined for Europe only.
I always thought the Razr original recipe looked jank. I like this one though. It appeals to my geekiness while still being stylish.
That blueness is so hot.
This looks way better than the KRZR in my opinion. I was looking forward to the Canary until I saw it. It's too long and narrow. Thankfully, Motorola seems to have realized that that people might feel that way and thought ahead, releasing this gorgeous (and in my opinion) true successor to the RAZR. I had already switched to a PEBL, but I might have to switch back to this if the price is right.
This. Is. My. Next. Phone.
Stew, where are you getting the carrier information. I find on the link:
Specifications for the Motorola MotoRAZR MAXX
Band GSM 900/1800/1900MHz, UMTS 2100MHz
This means that the phone is destined for our friendly shore as well.
Uh, Jason? Are you trying to prove his point?
Because it lacks the 850Mhz band that is ever so important for Cingular and it does not feature the UMTS bands of 850 or 1800Mhz that Cingular is rolling out, it will not be carried by them and will in many places, get inferior reception.
Of course you can use a triband phone, but it won't be traditionally sold here by any carrier, except maybe T-Mobile but I doubt that to hell.
I hate Motorola, I just got a v3x, damn, EBAY!
Looks they were a little upset with the competition LGCU500 was throwing them very nice
lol....nobody noticed the date in the phone....it said 11/10/06
Looks good but I have to admit Motorola's suck hard, very hard. Especially in the UK, crappy signal and an even worst battery all coupled together with a very American OS.
When is Moto going to allow a user to make the FONT on the phone LARGER!!!!!
The Razr fonts are too damned small. I've compared it to a V710 and especially on the closed faceplate screen, those of us without 20/20 vision can't see the damned phone number OR the time clearly.
Till Moto fixes that I will NOT buy a Razr. It is just bad UI design.
what can you say, it's not so revolutionary. *Shrugs Shoulders
This is the first Razr thats even somewhat appealing to me. Is that a flash or a light next to the camera?
And yes i agree isn't that much more innovative than whats already out in the market, but for anything that actually makes the US its not too bad.
And Ben18: samsung t809, thats a great phone that tmobile came out with last dec.
I like the new blue accents that are added to this phone, much like on the Creative Zen, and the fact that it actually looks like a slim phone and not a regular clamshell with the RAZR brand name (V3x). If this were to come to the U.S. it's fairly obvious that Cingular would pick it up before anyone; it's questionable whether from there it would trickle down to T-Mobile, but it seems likely that it would. All's said, this looks like a promising addition to the RAZR family, though its doubtful it will reach the extreme success of the V3.
And P.S., does anyone have any idea if the V3i is ever going to be released on Cingular, or anywhere? It was supposed to arrive in March, but now it's almost August and there are at least two other RAZR's that are likely to hit Cingular in September or sooner.
Hi Guys,
This phone is a dual mode phone with GSM(2.5G) 900/1800/1900 MHz plus UMTS (3G) 2100MHz. The phone will work in US via the GSM network (both Cingular and T-mobile under 1900MHz band). However the phone will not work via UMTS network in US. The UMTS band in US is 1900MHz. (Rest of the world are using UMTS 2100MHz)
Therefore if you use this phone in US, the 3G feature does not work. But this phone does support EDGE and HSDPA which works in US and provide much faster download than GPRS.
now if only verizon could have this. Why do all the cool phones only get GSM.
I've had my V3x since May this year. I love it to death but the plastic body/bulk is really annoying me. Does anyone know if the MAXX will have the voice commands like the V3x? I kinda liked the voice recognition..
Additionally, the plastic body of my V3x has decided to peel paint on the corners. I can't wait to get the MAXX and re-live my V3 days with higher specs.
There's a rumor going on about Cingular picking up this new Motorola phone in December. I want to know if there's any truth to that. Does anyone know if Cingular or T-mobile are anywhere close to picking up this phone any time soon? I read somehwere that Verizon's comtemplating on doing that, but Verizon phones are no good considering that they can't be used with other carriers. Please, does anyone know???
I've come to find that this phone is already available for T-Mobile. A good starting place would be cellhut.com but i don't reccommend buying it there because its too expensive. I just called today and they said its out of stock but only takes 2-3 days to get in. They said it will work with Cingular but may not have superior signal seeing as they use slightly different bands than t-mobile.
does anyone know if a more compatible version is going to come out for cingular? If not, i'm about to buy it anyway and give it a shot.
this is sexy horney i love it
